Chevrons bowler Blessing Muzarabani celebrates first international title win. The Sultans scored 206/7 batting first. Zalmi gave fight till Imran Tahir took three wickets in the 17th over of the chase to settle matters. Zalmi finished with 159/9 in 20 overs, as the Sultans celebrated their maiden title.

Blessing Muzarabani became the first Zimbabwean to win the Pakistan Premier League after his Multan Sultans outfit beat Peshawar Zalmi by 47 runs in the final on Thursday night.

Having only joined the Sultans as a replacement for Obed McCoy, Muzarabani put up top class performances, picking up 10 wickets in the six matches he played in. In Thursday’s final, the lanky bowler took 2/26 in four overs. His figures were only bettered by South African bowler Imran Tahir, who finished on 3/33.

“I’m really happy. It was really good, really tough cricket. You have to get it right against the guys who take you on, it was good, a good learning experience. Especially (coach) Andy (Flower), it’s been really nice. No pressure, especially when I go for runs. He supports me and says just keep going buddy,” said Muzarabani after the match.

It is the first time Multan Sultans had ever reached the PSL final since its launch in 2016. Sultans started the second-leg of the PSL fifth on the points’ table, having lost four of their first five matches, but led by their captain Mohammad Rizwan, they went on to win four of the next five to finish the league stage second.

They then beat Islamabad United in the first qualifier before going on to win Thursday night’s final.

Drama and chaos as avenging spirit demands truck and a grinding mill

Drama and chaos as avenging spirit demands truck and a grinding mill. The alleged avenging spirit of an Odzi diamond dealer is demanding a two-tonne truck and a grinding mill from his two friends, twelve years after the duo allegedly murdered him.

It is said the spirit of Welldone Mutangabende of Mararira Farm in Odzi is accusing John Muchinganwa and Willard Kushanya of robbing him of his eight-carat diamond in 2008.

The dead man’s spirit is alleged to have further claimed that after killing him, Muchinganwa and Kushanya dumped his body in a Chiadzwa mineshaft.

The spirit indicated that more demands, including some cattle, will be made once the truck and grinding mill are handed over to his family.

The Mutangabende, Muchinganwa and Kushanya families appeared before Chief Marange’s court last week on Sunday where the spirit made the demands.

In an interview with Manica Post, Mutangabende’s younger brother Shingirayi said his brother’s spirit claimed the diamond he was robbed of was worth a truck and grinding mill. He said:

Every interested party was there when the spirit made its demands. Had the spirit told our family members only about its demands, nobody would have believed us. I am sure everyone would have thought that we are greedy and taking advantage of the situation.

We now wait for the accused people’s families to fulfil these demands. He claims that the eight-carat diamond they robbed him was worth that truck and grinding mill.

Madzibaba Tendai, a prophet who was being consulted by the Muchinganwa and Kushanya families said the families had managed to silence the avenging spirit for years. He said:

They consulted a traditional healer who helped them to silence the spirit (kutsipika) through rituals. The spirit was stored in a gourd. All hell broke loose when the traditional healer died last year.

Mutangabende was allegedly murdered by Muchinganwa and Kushanya in 2008 for his 8-carat diamond. The two men then staged an accident and made the Mutangabende family believe that their relative had been crushed to death in an illegal diamond mine shaft collapse.

The details of what really transpired only emerged last week after the Muchinganwa and Kushanya families visited the Mutangabendes with the intention of appeasing Mutangabende’s spirit.

Polygamous man at loggerheads with his 10 sons

Polygamous man at loggerheads with his 10 sons. Matthias Nyakuwo’s dispute with his sons has since spilled to Mutare Civil Courts, with the father applying for a protection order against his sons. A Chiadzwa man is at loggerheads with his 10 sons who are accusing him of killing a person whose avenging spirit is now tormenting them.

The Nyakuwo brothers claimed that their father murdered someone in 2010, adding that the avenging spirit is now wreaking havoc in their family. One of Nyakuwo’s sons told Manica Post that want their father to come out clean on this issue so that they can appease the avenging spirit. He said:

We consulted a prophet at an apostolic church when a family member was sick and the spirit of the murdered villager manifested on the child demanding an audience with our father.

The spirit accused our father of being responsible for the person’s death. We tried to engage our father over the issue but he could not entertain us. Repeated efforts to find a lasting to this problem have been in vain and that is why our father applied for this protection order.

Mutare magistrate, Xavier Chipato, granted Nyakuwo the protection order against his sons Pearson, Brighton, Uebert, Takudzwa, Urayayi, Albert, Bright, Believe, Livingston and Justice when the matter was brought before him recently.

The protection order bars the 10 brothers from visiting Matthias’ homestead, harassing, assaulting, threatening and physically abusing him. The Nyakuwo brothers, however, defended their actions, accusing their father of trying to use the order to stop them from addressing the issue of the avenging spirit.

Rejuvenated Chinamasa castigates Studio 7 for biased reporting. The party’s Acting Political Commissar Patrick Chinamasa on Thursday singled out The Voice of America (VOA) station popularly known as Studio 7, as a propaganda mouthpiece for the hostile American government.

The ruling ZANU PF has lashed out at media organisations reporting on Zimbabwean affairs but not controlled by the government.

He told reporters at the party’s headquarters that ZANU PF viewed broadcasts by VOA in the same light with sanctions imposed on the country by the United States of America. Said Chinamasa:

I want to refer to the specifically targeted propaganda against Zimbabwe and Zimbabweans in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), for example, via hostile broadcasts like the Voice of America’s Studio 7.

ZANU PF views these hostile broadcasts in the same light as illegal sanctions, an illegitimate and unwanted interference in our country’s domestic affairs and as part of the illegal arsenal for regime change. We will resist as we have successfully done since 2000.

Chinamasa also lambasted the country’s Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) he blamed for undermining the country’s political, economic, and judicial systems. He said the government was ready to deregister any such organisations which tried to interfere with the national affairs.

Mining giant Kuvimba pays US$5.2 million in dividends. The government is the largest investor in the mining company, holding 21.5 per cent of the shares and it got US$1.7 million from the dividends.

Mining giant, Kuvimba Mining House (KMH) has paid a US$5.2 million dividend to its shareholders, including the government, for the first time since its establishment a year ago.

12.5 per cent which is for the purpose of meeting obligations in respect of compensation for improvements on farms under the Global Compensation Agreement signed between the Government and white former commercial farmers.

The former commercial farmers this week received their first paycheque of US$1 million in the form of a dividend for the 12.5 per cent equity the Government gave them in KMH.

Other public shareholding companies include the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Zimbabwe, the Public Service Pension Management Fund and the Insurance and Pensions Commission. Private companies account for 35% of the shares.

Speaking during a virtual ceremony to hand over the dividends on Wednesday, KMH chairperson Justin Mupamhanga said:

Having heeded His Excellency (Emmerson Mnangagwa)’s call that Zimbabwe is, indeed, open for business, Kuvimba has taken its rightful place in the economy by contributing directly towards the attainment of the mining sector vision of delivering a US$12 billion mining industry by 2023, which anchors the National Development Strategy 1 (2021-2025), and thus ensuring the President’s vision is attained.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube said the government had invested in KMH to accelerate economic growth. He said: Kuvimba is an example of the 2nd Republic’s thrust to reawaken Zimbabwe’s economic potential, by unlocking value, out of various natural resource and mineral endowments.

The mining house is playing its role in ensuring that the Government’s vision of a US$12 billion-dollar mining economy by 2023 is achieved. By playing its part, Kuvimba is thus contributing not only to the attainment of national strategic objectives under NDS1, but the pursuit of Vision 2030.

Chinese Coal miner desecrates family graves in Hwange

Chinese Coal miner desecrates family graves in Hwange. A local human rights advocacy group has condemned the move as disturbing, traumatising and unconstitutional. The coal mining project has caused an outcry among Dinde villagers who face possible eviction from their ancestral lands.

A Chinese coal-mining company, Beifa Investment (Pvt) Ltd, has allegedly started exploration for coal at a family cemetery in Dinde, Hwange, Matabeleland North province. Beifa Ivestiments intends to construct a 270-megawatt coal-fired power plant, with the government defending the project as pro-development.

However, Farai Maguwu, the director for the Centre for Natural Resource Governance (CNRG), said investigations have established that the mining giant was drilling at the Longwane family cemetery. Said Maguwu on Thursday:

A cemetery is the most sacred place in any community in Zimbabwe such that even the people of that community cannot just visit it as and when they want to. To allow foreigners to come there and dig or explore for minerals is a desecration of the cultural values of that community and Zimbabwe as a whole.

It is a violation of section 16 of the Constitution, which states that government and all institutions of government shall respect the cultural values, the heritage of this country.

Hwange Central shadow legislator Reeds Dube (ZANU PF) told NewsDay that he had heard about the development but was yet to confirm the reports. Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs minister Richard Moyo, however, dismissed CNRG and critics of the coal-mining project as “noise-makers”. Moyo said:

They have started again, they are noise-makers who are against development. No one is complaining about the project save for such organisations and pensioners out of sour grapes as they cannot be employed because of old age.

This is a big project bringing jobs among other development initiatives. In April, some villagers, including a local ZANU PF area chairperson, Never Chuma, were arrested and released on bail for staging a protest against the Chinese coal-mining venture.

Beifa Investment lodged a complaint against Chuma, who is also the Dinde Residents Association deputy chairperson, and Dube for allegedly inciting community members to beat up company officials. The Dinde Area is home to thousands of Nambya and Tonga ethnic groups who settled in the area several decades ago.

Masvingo Polytechnic principal Callisto Muzongondi confirmed the matter to Masvingo Mirror, saying the Ministry of Health and Childcare has dispatched a team of nurses to screen students and other staffers for the infectious virus. He said:

Some 15 examiners who are marking HEXCO exams tested COVID-19 positive on Tuesday and are in quarantine here. The Ministry of Health has sent in a team that is screening students and other staffers for the lethal virus.

Other higher learning institutions in Masvingo Province like Bondolfi and Morgenster Teachers’ colleges have also recorded COVID-19 cases.

This comes as the ruling ZANU PF party has continued to defy lockdown regulations by holding rallies throughout the country, reported Masvingo Mirror.

In Gutu North alone more than 10 rallies were held in the last week even though churches, restaurants, weddings, funerals and other gatherings are all banned.

Victoria Falls Town clerk reinstated. The commission comprised of former Victoria Falls mayor Nkosilathi Jiyane, ex-councillors Vusumuzi Moyo and Million Moyo, Hwange Rural District Council chief executive Phindile Ncube and lawyer Elvis Mashindi.

Suspended Victoria Falls Town Clerk Ronnie Dube has bounced back after a five-member commission of inquiry set up to investigate him on criminal abuse of office charges cleared him of any wrongdoing.

On Thursday, the commission presented its findings to the council. The local authority said in a statement: Victoria Falls City Council Town Clerk Ronnie Dube has bounced back at the helm after being cleared of wrongdoing by a commission of inquiry, in a Special Full Council meeting held today 24 June 2021.

This comes after a litany of unfounded allegations were drawn against the seasoned leader, whose Local Governance experience spans from 1992 to date.

Council set up a five member-commission of inquiry to look into the allegations of misconduct levelled against the Town Clerk which made up of, the former Mayor and Alderman, former Councillors, a sitting Chief Executive Officer of a Local Authority, and a lawyer.

Following a week of investigations and deliberations on the issues brought before them, the commission recommended that Dube be cleared of all the charges since there was a paper trail of things being done above board.

Victoria Falls Mayor, Somvelo Dhlamini has reportedly written a letter to Dube advising him of his reinstatement. Dube was arrested early last month and subsequently released on $50 000 bail on criminal abuse of office charges.

His suspension was briefly lifted by the Victoria Falls councillors before Local Government minister July Moyo verbally suspended him on 14 May.

Govt refuses tighter Bulawayo curfew reports

Govt refuses tighter Bulawayo curfew reports. Bulawayo is still under the general lockdown regulations, with the 10pm to 5:30am curfew and business closing by 6pm, and is not one of the four districts placed under the intensified special lockdown that includes a 6pm to 6 am curfew and a 3pm closing time for business as recently announced in some sections of the media, Health and Child Care Deputy Minister John Mangwiro said yesterday.

He was clarifying the position over reports that police in Bulawayo had introduced the tougher curfew as three Bulawayo suburbs were declared Covid-19 hot spots after the last Cabinet meeting: Nkulamane, Emakhadeni and the northern suburbs. While people in these hotspots, and other identified hotspots, are being urged to be extra vigilant, they are still under the general rules that allow most business to remain open to 6pm with the curfew starting at 10pm.

Under amended regulations gazetted yesterday by Vice President Chiwenga in his capacity as Health and Child Care Minister, the special intensified lockdown is limited at the moment to Hurungwe, Kariba, Kwekwe and Makonde districts and in these four districts the curfew is now 6pm to 6am, basically the hours of darkness in a Zimbabwean winter, with greater limitations on business opening hours and only essential service vehicles transiting the four districts allowed to move during the curfew hours.

The curfew in three of these districts was set last week at 7pm to 6am, but has now been extended and includes Makonde. This means that the rest of the country is under the general lockdown regulations, with the shorter curfew, that were tightened recently but which still allow almost all businesses to remain open to 6pm.

That general tightening barred social and religious gatherings, except funerals and those are limited to 30 people. The amended regulations have defined social gatherings more precisely to close legal loopholes but basically ensure that anything that people might see as a social gathering is one and so is legally banned.

The amended regulations also insist that anyone travelling from India or who has transited through India on their way to Zimbabwe not only has to have the PCR negative certificate that all travellers require, but also has to be retested at their own expense on arrival and even then, if negative, still be quarantined at their own expense for another 10 days and then undergo another test before they can move around under pertaining lockdown rules.

Dismissing the Bulawayo reports that the police were seeing the special lockdown rules that apply to the four listed districts also applied to parts of the city, Dr Mangwiro told a media conference in Harare last night that only the Presidium or Health Minister had the mandate to announce intensified lockdown measures.

“I heard there are certain sections of the media purporting that Bulawayo is under special lockdown. This is not correct. This statement is purporting that Nkulumane, Pelandaba, Emganwini, Sizinda, Emakhandeni, Cowdry Park, Pumula, and others are under special lockdown. This is not correct.

“If there is going to be a lockdown, I would like to advise the public, such an announcement would be made by the Head of State, who is the President Dr ED Mnangagwa, or anyone he would have designated or the Minister of Health and Child Care or anyone designated to do that on his behalf.

This week, Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube was quoted in the media saying effectively from yesterday, police would be deployed to monitor compliance with an intensified lockdown.

“Business hours is now between 8am-3pm meaning that all shops and businesses in town must close at that time. and this applies to the rest of the suburbs that have been declared hotspots. “We are calling for maximum cooperation from members of the public so that we see this phase passing smoothly,” he said.

Epworth baby thief in court

Epworth baby thief in court. Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi remanded Christina Gwashavanhu (35), who is of no fixed abode, in custody and advised her to apply for bail at the High Court. The court heard that Gwashavanhu committed the offence on June 23 but was apprehended before she could make off with the baby from the clinic.

The Harare woman, who had almost succeeded in stealing a newly-born baby at Epworth Polyclinic this week, has appeared in court on a charge of kidnapping the baby.  Commenting on the incident, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “We urge institutions like hospitals and clinics to step up their security measures and avoid such incidents.”

A video clip has since gone viral in which the woman was captured being interrogated by staff at the clinic. A similar incident happened last year when a Zvimba woman kidnapped a child outside Montagu Spar in Harare’s Avenues area.

The suspect, Mirriam Bwanali is still at large while her 40-year-old husband, Gift Chemhuru of Motsi Village under Chief Chirau of Zvimba, was arrested and is currently on remand.

On September 24, 2020, the mother, Shani Charamanda (30), gave birth to a baby boy at Mbuya Nehanda Maternity Hospital, Harare, and she was discharged. And on October 22, 2020, Charamanda went to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where she wanted to see a doctor for medical review.

On her way home, she met Bwanali inside the hospital yard and they walked to Montagu Spar a few blocks away. While there, Bwanali offered to help carry the baby. The court heard that Charamanda initially refused but Bwanali insisted, resulting in the complainant giving in.

Bwanali allegedly fled with the child when Charamanda went into the supermarket. She also took with her, a wallet belonging to Charamanda which had money, and a Nokia mobile phone.

Charamanda reported the matter at Milton Park Police Station. Closed Circuit Television footage showed Chemhuru committing the offence. On November 2, police officers from Zvimba received information that members of the community in Motsi Village under Chief Chirau, had apprehended Chemhuru for kidnapping the baby.

Police went to his house and arrested Chemhuru and later found the one-month-old baby sleeping on a bed but Bwanali escaped.

President Mnangagwa: Postal sector must embrace new technologies

President Mnangagwa: Postal sector must embrace new technologies. He said this here yesterday while officially opening the 10th session of the Pan-African Union (PAPU) Plenipotentiary Conference and the 39th ordinary session of the Administrative Council.

President Mnangagwa has called on African countries to remain united for the achievement of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 while also encouraging the postal sector to continue embracing latest technologies to boost its operations.

The President also launched the PAPU Plenipotentiary Commemorative Stamps, which are symbolic of Zimbabwe’s delight and honour for having hosted the PAPU meeting. He said the stamps must serve as a reminder of the beauty and uniqueness of motherland.

The President said PAPU, like other specialised agencies of the African Union, has an inherent obligation to advance and propel the founding vision of a united, peaceful, developed and integrated Africa.

“Furthermore, the onus is on all the agencies of the African Union to be a catalyst to the realisation of Agenda 2063 and the building of an Africa we all want,” said President Mnangagwa. “More so, as you reflect upon and redefine the trajectory of the Agency in the context of the ever-changing and emerging realities.

“As an important organ of our esteemed continental body, the Pan-African Postal Union should play a developmental role in uplifting the standard of living of our people in line with the aspirations of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.”

He challenged PAPU to support governments on the continent to bridge the digital divide, to enable citizens to have access to basic communication in tandem with Africa’s quest to create knowledge economies and innovation-driven development.

But the President warned that the adoption of new technologies comes with attendant risks, and implored PAPU, regulatory authorities and other stakeholders, to ensure the technological space remained safe from cybercriminals, user friendly, affordable and efficient for all.

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) provides the postal sector a renewed lease of life through the opportunities for distribution logistics in support of free trade and other cross border activities.

President Mnangagwa implored PAPU members to pursue the fulfilment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), through the effective utilisation of their diverse presence and networks for the upliftment of humankind. The conference came against the backdrop of a new normal brought about by Covid-19.

This has brought to the fore the critical role played by the postal sector, with postmen and postwomen across the world now constituting frontline workers as they deliver medicines, medical prescriptions, food, cash and other needs to citizens affected by the pandemic.

President Mnangagwa said the self-less acts by postal sector employees reminds the rest of citizens of the essential and indispensable role of the sector. “The Covid-19 pandemic provides delegates at this Plenipotentiary Conference an opportunity to reflect and pursue hitherto uncharted terrains with regards to how best the postal sector can embrace the new normal.

“This includes the use of new technologies such as drones for deliveries, blockchain technology for secure transactions, digital financial services and Track and Trace applications, among others.

“ICT developments must, thus, be leveraged to enable citizens on the continent to receive services without being physically inclined to visit service centres,” he said.

The President also urged the sector to continue diversifying into a broad range of new services to enhance and increase the competitiveness of the letter and parcel delivery business.

The postal sector has been implored to facilitate the provision of government services on electronic platforms such as e-government services for the convenience and delivery of quality services to citizens.

President Mnangagwa said with the growth of e-commerce, scope exists for the provision of cost-effective channels for the delivery and collection of purchased items as consumers become increasingly comfortable with shopping online.

Traditionally, the postal sector had long provided a range of services and information largely to marginalised communities with limited access to modern ICT-based services.

Going forward, President Mnangagwa said Africa is at a stage requiring its “sons and daughters” to serve humanity with unflinching loyalty and vigour for the benefit of citizens.

“The selection of new leadership of agencies of the African Union, including this Pan-African Postal Union, must thus be understood within the framework of renewal and servant-hood.

“We cannot all serve in leadership positions at the same time. It is a relay where the baton is passed-on to the next group of persons, for the collective good of our continent.

“There are no winners or losers, it is Africa which wins,” he said, adding that the 10th Session of the PAPU Plenipotentiary Conference should be a reminder that “united we stand and divided we stand”.

As the continent looks forward to holding the Universal Postal Union congress in August in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, the President said this would be a momentous and long overdue occasion considering that Africa last held it in Egypt in 1934.

He added that when in Ivory Coast, Africans should demonstrate they are one people and one indivisible continent. President Mnangagwa called on Africans to continue maintaining social distance, masking up, avoiding handshakes and sanitising, among others, to fight Covid-19 which has tormented the continent.

“Weeping may last but for a season, joy will surely come yet again upon our continent, in due season,” he said.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Minister of State for Matabeleland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo, ICT, Courier and Postal Services Minister and chairman of the PAPU Plenipotentiary chairman Dr Jenfan Muswere, Minister of State for National Security Owen Ncube, UPU director general Ambassador Bishar Hussein and PAPU secretary general Mr Younouss Djibrine, attended the conference.

A number of other countries outside Africa including the US, Belgium, Ukraine, Japan and Thailand, attended either physically or virtually.

Zimbabwe to honour PAPU pledges

Speaking while officially opening the 10th session of the PAPU Plenipotentiary Conference and the 39th ordinary session of the Administrative Council here yesterday, the President said PAPU should ensure the project was completed speedily.

Zimbabwe will honour its pledge made towards the construction of the Pan-African Union (PAPU) headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, President Mnangagwa has said. “I note that the Pan African Postal Union is undertaking the construction of its headquarters in Arusha in collaboration with the government of the United People’s Republic of Tanzania.

“The Government of Zimbabwe will honour its pledge towards construction works of the headquarters. I urge the Pan African Postal Union to work in unity and more concertedly for the speedy completion of this strategic project,” said the President.

It is believed that having a permanent headquarters will ease the financial burden on the union and provide working space for staff as well as the hosting of PAPU meetings.

Meanwhile, the President said as the Plenipotentiary Conference undertakes the business of electing personnel for the union, including the secretary general’s post that Postmaster-General of the Zimbabwe Posts Private Limited (Zimpost) Mr Sifundo Chief Moyo, was contesting for last night, there was need to keep in mind the importance of the indispensable principles and values embodied in the African Charter.

The values include the advancement of continental integration and ensuring that regional economic communities are adequately represented in the administrative hierarchies of agencies of the African Union, said President Mnangagwa.

“At the heart of Pan African lies the values of unity, solidarity and common purpose. These must continue to be forged as we consolidate the independence of Africa towards the realisation of shared development and prosperity for all our people,” he said.

Apart from Mr Moyo, the election for the post of PAPU secretary general was being contested for by Mr Sameh Soliman of Egypt, Mr Amadou Abdou Waziri of Niger and Mr Sibiri Michel Kabre of Burkina Faso.

However, the Egyptian candidate was disqualified by the credentials committee last night, but there were spirited efforts by delegates from the North African country to have him restored. Concerns also arose over the Mali and Morocco candidates. Voting had not started by 2240hrs as delegates continue to haggle. Candidates are required to file the credentials three months after the advertisement of vacancies in PAPU.

SADC Parliamentary Forum set for transformation

SADC Parliamentary Forum set for transformation. Sadc Parliamentary Forum is now set to be transformed into a regional Parliament whose approach will be consultative with organs of Sadc and craft model laws for consideration by member countries, Speaker of the National Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda has said.

He said there was now consensus among SADC Parliaments that it was now high time for SADC PF to be transformed and the forthcoming Sadc summit in August this year would be a turning point as the item is expected to be tabled before Heads of States and Government.

Adv Mudenda said this yesterday on the sidelines of a SADC PF plenary session held virtually and was officially opened by Botswana President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi.

He said they had cleared some of the misgivings that some member countries had on the decision to transform SADC PF one of which related to the fear that it might compromise the sovereignty to make laws by member countries.

“On that score we said we are not going to be a legislative body in the strict sense but we are going to be a legislative body focussing on the crafting of model laws that will be subjected to interrogation, an implementation where necessary or possible by member Parliaments,” said Adv Mudenda.

He said another area of reservations was whether or not the regional Parliament was going to exercise oversight on the SADC organs.

“We have said, Sadc has not attained a supra-regional stature similar to that of the European Union, for example, and therefore it is not the intention of the regional body to exercise oversight on all the organs of Sadc and it is our view that our approach would be more consultative with all the organs of SADC.

“What is more important is that we were informed by what happened with respect to SADC Tribunal which was a creature that wanted to destroys the creator, and to that extent we said it is not our intention to be overbearing on SADC and we said we will submit ourselves to the Sadc Summit and we will be so guided accordingly from time to time,” he said.

He said there was now consensus among member Parliaments. “It is our hope that the Sadc summit that will take place in August this year will be a turning point in the transformation agenda so that the people of Sadc region will be able to foster economic, political and other social areas of integration,” he said.

The session is being held under the Theme: “Leveraging the AfCFTA for Post-Covid Economic Recovery in Southern Africa: The Role of SADC Parliamentary Forum and National Parliaments.”

Adv Mudenda called Zimbabwe had since ratified the African Continental Free Trade Area and implored member states to domesticate the instrument.

“It is important that Parliaments within Sadc PF now proceed to domesticate various areas of the agreement particularly in the form of custom and immigration laws so that we are in sync within custom and immigration laws which will enable free movement within the continent,” said Adv Mudenda.

Dineo Ranaka denies calling listener stupid on air

Metro FM’s Dineo Ranaka has denied calling a listener “stupid” live on air after inviting listeners to call in and weigh in on her show’s wildly popular #AskAMan segment.

An anonymous woman called in to the station to lament her situation with her cheating husband in the show’s advice segment.

Judging from his timeline, Twitter user @leboganglethuba can’t get enough of #AskAMan as he tunes in regularly and shares his opinion on the callers’ situations.

#AskAMan, why are majority of women so stupid. Why would you practice another man’s cultural stuff while he doesn’t do yours. Come on woman yerre” wrote the user in a since-deleted tweet.

Ranaka, who saw the tweet during her show, responded to Lebogang live on air and Twitter users who were listening took exception to her response. Another Twitter user came to Ranaka’s defence after having seen the tweet she was responding to by highlighting Lebogang’s original use of the word stupid.

Ranaka weighed in on the discussion on Twitter and put her foot down about men being disrespectful and verbally abusive towards women.

She then explained her use of the word “stupid” while responding to the Twitter user about #AskAMan was a reclamation project in reference to what Lebogang was implying in his tweet.

Ranaka then left the Twitter user with a piece of advice to help him better navigate #AskAMan in future.

Metro FM DJs have in the past come under fire for how they speak to listeners. We wonder if this means Ranaka will get the chop.

Drama as mystery men sprinkle blood and salt on Elias Mudzuri murder victim’s grave

Drama as mystery men sprinkle blood and salt on Elias Mudzuri murder victim’s grave. In a bizarre incident, mystery men were seen performing rituals and sprinkling blood on the grave of a Zaka man who died after he was allegedly attacked by MDC-T vice president Elias Mudzuri.

Ronald Mukumbira, 23, died on 10 June after telling his mother he had been assaulted three days earlier by Mudzuri and his brother Leonard and other unidentified assailants. The assault took place at Mudzuri’s Duriro Pub & Grill in Harare’s Workington industrial area after Mukumbira was accused of stealing pool table balls, an accusation he denied.

The victim’s mother Netsai Mukumbira told ZimLive that they woke up on Thursday to unknown men performing rituals on the grave. She said: We woke up to this abomination at our home early this morning. We saw these people at the grave of our son in the early hours of the morning and we couldn’t see their faces clearly.

They left some sprinkled bloodstains, salt, some red and a white cloth along with a clay pot [hari] at the grave. She said they just took pictures of the scene as they were “afraid to confront them because we might get arrested.”

Sekuru Kafera, a traditional healer based in Chitungwiza explained that the ritual was meant to “appease the deceased so that he may not avenge those who killed him.” He added:

They do this by acquiring blood from a lamb or goat which hasn’t had any blemish. They take this blood and sprinkle it at the head side of the grave as a cleansing rite.

All this is done so that they be not haunted by the one they killed and they will wait for someone to get these things. Mukumbira’s family wants Mudzuri arrested and charged with murder but police say they are still investigating.
