Minister worried over shebeens and wild Parties. Minister Ncube warned the bad apples within the Bulawayo community that they are not only endangering their lives by their recklessness but also their families’ well -being too.
Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister Judith Ncube has castigated shebeen operators and people who routinely throw parties saying they are frustrating efforts by city health officials to curb the spread of coronavirus. She said:
It is very disappointing that some people are throwing parties while others are still running shebeens which are illegal by the way. Ignorance will kill us first. If you go to town, or just do rounds around the suburbs, you will be shocked to see that some people just do not seem to care about what is happening. Some are not wearing masks; some are just drinking in public in groups.
This does not only put them in danger but their families and communities too. Headlines are screaming daily about new deaths and cases reported, yet we have people exhibiting such behaviour.
Bulawayo Province is considered a COVID-19 hotspot. It has recorded 1 133 coronavirus cases and 23 officially confirmed deaths. Reports indicate that over 100 nurses have contracted coronavirus at the city’s two major hospitals, Mpilo General Hospital and United Bulawayo Hospitals.
