COVID-19 Update: Deadly International remittance queues continue. Money transfer agencies like, Mukuru along Nelson Mandela Avenue, was packed with people on Wednesday after Heroes and Defence Forces Day holidays.

Scores of beneficiaries of international remittance continue to risk getting Covid-19 due to their resistance in maintaining personal social distance.

The holiday prompted long winding queues. Pressure within the queues is a common feature as people hope to get their money on time to avoid curfew. President Mnangagwa, declared curfew from 6am to 6pm.

H-Metro made a survey and discovered that people were failing to maintain social distance. In an interview with H-Metro, some of the beneficiaries said people tend to forget that Covid-19 exists because they would be wanting to make withdrawals.

“Wangu, kana uchifunga zvemari, zveCovid-19 unomboisa paside. “It’s difficult to maintain social distance in these queues, panotoda guard anocontroller always. “Everyone wants to be served on time; there is curfew so we would be hoping to leave town early.”

Another one said: “Social distancing is always difficult to maintain and the issue is vital because the way how we will be standing exposes us to the virus.

“There should be a loud voice always because tinovarairwa, kana achifunga mari zvese izvo anozvikanganwa,” said another beneficiary. The people are standing in groups, close to each other without observing the personal distancing requirements of two meters.

“Munhu anotozviona kuti Covid-19 is real when someone they know dies, but when they are standing in queues the social distance issue is another thing. “But there is need for the personal social distance otherwise, uchibva kunotora mari yacho, ukunofa,” said another citizen.
