Comedy series to honour the late Mdara Bonzo. Titled “Tribute to Mdara Bonzo”, the project is meant to pay tribute to the departed entertainer who died in 2018. The series will be ready for the screens in the next two weeks prior to an agreed schedule with ZBC.

A new comedy series to remember the late actor Lawrence “Mdara Bhonzo” Simbarashe is on cards. Mdara Bhonzo’s long-time friend Timothy “Timmy” Tapfumaneyi said they want to pay their respect to the late comedian. “We did a production in 2017 with Mdara Bonzo but we could not finish it due to deterioration of Mdara’s health.

“The footage that we shot was just enough to complete only one episode and we then approached Chitungwiza Municipality to fund the project so we could be able to pay our actors. “Chitungwiza Municipality accepted our proposal and we then thought of increasing the number of episodes to 4.

“We named the comedy Tribute to Mdara Bonzo in honour of the great contribution Mdara did to the Arts industry in Zimbabwe, he said. Tapfumaneyi said the comedy will have four episodes.

“All in all we are going to have four new episodes and four old ones that are going to be aired by ZBC as repeats. “Our intention is to have the comedy run for a month meaning to say ZBC will be airing 2 episodes per week one new and one old one.

“The other option will be for the corporation to air the episodes for eight consecutive days. “After this we also intend to have a continuation of the comedy but under a new name which we are yet come up with,” he added. He said there are other projects in the pipeline.

“The other projects that are in the pipeline include a movie called Friendship that is going to feature me and Shinsoman as main actors. “For this one we are on the verge of getting another sponsor and the other project that is imminent is a comedy which we have entitled Matare.

“This one will again feature myself and Kessia Masona aka Muchaneta where the script development is at an advanced stage and we shall give you full details in due course.” The tribute comedy also features the original Mai Chocolate played by Chipo Tsumba and Sekuru Chandi performed by Daniel Mbanje.
