Organisers of Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz’s maiden gig in Zimbabwe have roped in businessmen Philip Chiyangwa and Wicknell Chivayo to help them publicise the concert after the two bought 30 VVIP tickets apiece.
2 Kings Entertainment spokesperson Dee Nosh told the Daily News that they are confident that they will benefit from the two businessmen’s endorsement of the gig which will take place at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on December 2.
The concert — dubbed Watora Mari Concert — will also feature Jah Prayzah, Stunner, Killer T, Ex Q, Trevor Dongo and Judgement Yard.
“We are excited because the two businessmen bought a total 60 VVIP tickets which are going for $40 each.
“The two are very excited by the event and have demonstrated their endorsement by posting pro-Watora Mari Concert videos which have gone viral on social media platforms,” said Dee Nosh, who claimed that the bulk of the tickets sold so far had been bought by women.
On the videos doing the rounds, Chiyangwa and Chivayo are heard singing Jah Prayzah’s duet with Diamond Platnumz — Watora Mari.
Interestingly, the two musicians’ collaboration materialised despite the fact that early this year, Jah Prayzah was accused of plagiarising the concept of Diamond Platnumz’s Mdogo Mdogo for his Jerusarema video. The striking similarities between the two videos sent tongues wagging in the local entertainment industry.
The Diamond Platnumz gig is one of two gigs being organised by 2 Kings Entertainment in December. The other one is Jamaican star Jah Cure’s maiden concert in Zimbabwe which will take place at the HICC on December 16.
While most local music promoters have of late baulked at the high cost of bringing foreign artistes to Zimbabwe, 2 Kings Entertainment, a relatively new outfit on the Zimbabwean music scene, appears undaunted by the tough prevailing economic situation.
“We have no problem with that (organising two big concerts featuring international artistes in one month). We have what it takes to make it happen,” Dee Nosh told the Daily News.
As if to confirm its strong financial position, 2 Kings Entertainment recently took over Rainbow Towers-based Stars Night Club, which was formerly called Stars Studio, which will reopen on November 24.
“It is reopening under new management. The joint will host after-parties for many high-profile gigs. We are starting with Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz. After that, the joint will host an after-party for Jamaican international star Jah Cure on December 16,” Dee Nosh said
