The matter in which Suluman Chimbetu is being slapped with a $1500 maintenance lawsuit by ex-wife Marigold Mutemasango has been postponed by a civil court magistrate.
Mutemasango’s lawyer, Melusi Moyo was engaged at the Harare court and the matter was postponed to next week Monday for continuation of the inquiry. The postponement was by consent from both parties.
Magistrate Sharon Rakafa presided over the matter. The Dendera musician is being sued for alleged child neglect. It is alleged that Chimbetu has not been taking care of two minor children he sired with his ex-wife Marigold.
In her application, Marigold claimed $1 500 for the upkeep of the two minor children. She claimed that Chimbetu has school fees arrears and has to cater for the children’s accommodation in the same area he is staying with his family so that there would not be a difference between these two minors and the children he stays with.
Mutemasango insists that Chimbetu had the means to provide for the two children and could afford the money she claimed. In his response, Chimbetu offered to pay $100 for the upkeep of the two children. He argued that the music industry was not flourishing and he was struggling to make ends meet.
Chimbetu further submitted that his wife was catering for his accommodation as he could not afford to pay for his own rentals. He said he sometimes gets as little as $70 as profit from a show and mainly survived on well-wishers.
