Local favourite Jah Prayzah and Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz, who collaborated on the hit Watora Mari, have lined up another duet.
The two music stars, who must have been encouraged by the over three million hits generated by the Watoma Mari video, are currently working on the collaboration which has been penned by the East African star.
Jah Prayzah confirmed the duet in an interview but could not reveal when it will be released.
“We are working on another song together though I am not sure when and how Diamond Platnumz will release the song. Maybe he will include it on his forthcoming album or release it as a single.
“The decision lies with Diamond Platnumz because it is his song,” said the Jerusarema hit-maker.
Jah Prayzah, who recently collaborated with South African music stars Mafikizolo on a yet-to-be-released song titled Sendekera, has promised more duets with international stars.
“Fans should expect more collaborations with big international artistes. We will reveal the collaborations at the appropriate time,” he said.
The award-winning Zimbabwean star said the ever-increasing number of collaborations with top foreign artistes is yet more proof of his growing profile beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.
We are no longer underdogs in showbiz. The collaborations are mutually beneficial to us and the artistes we work with. Nobody pays the other because it is a win-win situation.
“The owner of the song pays for the studio charges. Because Watora Mari was ours, we incurred the studio charges,” Jah Prayzah told the Daily News.
The Uzumba-born artiste added that there is a high likelihood that he could ditch his usual tradition of releasing one album per year.
“We are still discussing the way forward on how to go about it. We might continue churning out albums on yearly basis or go for singles,” he said.
Despite his growing profile beyond Zimbabwe’s borders, Jah Prayzah has ruled out singing in another language other than Shona.
“I am not going to stop singing in Shona. It is the only language I can freely express myself in. If I manage to conquer the world, I will do so using Shona.
“I have performed at various international festivals overseas where there were no Shona people but people fell in love with our music.
“Remember, Diamond Platnumz sings in Swahili but his influence now goes beyond the East African region,” he said.
