The Harare Residents Trust has handed over a petition to the Harare City Council contesting the decision by the local authority to install pre-paid water meters.
Harare Residents Trust board chairman, Mr Albert Mazula and director of the trust, Precious Shumba led a delegation to Town House to hand over a petition by residents to the Mayor’s office to contest the proposal to install pre-paid water meters by the city.
The petition signed by 2 281 residents’ representatives was received by councillor Peter Moyo who promised to hand it over to Harare Acting Mayor, councillor Christopher Mbanga for consideration.
The handing over of the petition is expected to open dialogue on how defaulting rate payers should offset their outstanding bills as well as on how to craft an efficient win-win model for residents to honour their obligation to pay for treated water supplies.
