In a speech ahead of the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on Oct. 1, the ambassador said the upward momentum in China-Zimbabwe cooperation is unstoppable. He said: Our long-standing friendship and fruitful cooperation have made some political elements jealous.
Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Guo Shaochim has said the Asian giant will continue to work together with Zimbabwe to advance bilateral cooperation despite criticism from Western detractors.
They keep saying something is not right, fabricating fake news to attack Chinese investments in Zimbabwe and soil the image of China and Chinese companies. We are confident facts speak louder than words. We are confident the wise Zimbabwean people will not be fooled by a bunch of clowns. We are confident our deep-rooted friendship will not be shaken by a couple of lies.
In fact, their smearing only vindicates our success and enhances our confidence and strength. China and Zimbabwe will keep running hand in hand so fast that their lies can never catch up.
The Chinese envoy speaks amid growing criticism of China’s environmentally unfriendly mining practices across the Southern African country. Some Chinese mining companies are reportedly pushing for the eviction of locals with reports that the miners are getting protection from political elites who allegedly benefit more from Sino-Zim cooperation.
The Asian country is also accused of extending unsustainable debts to Zimbabwe and other developing countries. China’s relations with Africa and Zimbabwe, in particular, can be traced back to the pre-independence era when it helped Zimbabwe to fight off colonialism.
China has over the years implemented various flagship cooperation projects in Zimbabwe which are nearing completion. These include the modernization of the Harare International Airport and the construction of the new parliament building.
