Locally-based Warriors troop into camp. The Warriors technical team named a 30-member provisional squad that will be trimmed down to 28 on 31 December before the team leaves for Cameroon.

The Warriors have started trooping into camp in preparation for the belated 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals to be held in Cameroon from 9 January to 6 February.

Zimbabwe’s participation at AFCON is, however, in doubt after FIFA ordered the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) to rescind its decision to suspend the ZIFA board by 3 January 2022.

If SRC maintains its stance, Zimbabwe will be disqualified from AFCON and other international tournaments.

Warriors team manager Wellington Mpandare revealed that locally-based players joined camp this Thursday. He said: Locally based players have reported to camp with the exception of Teenage Hadebe who is in Bulawayo.

Talbert Shumba, Temptation Chiwunga, Ishmael Wadi and the other South African guys will come tomorrow as well as Zambian and Tanzanian guys.

Today, people are getting tested before they check-in and they will stay in a bubble for three days after that they get tested again if we get a clean bill then we start training.

Captain Knowledge Musona, Tinotenda Kadewere and Admiral Muskwe and other European-based players are expected to join their fellow countrymen in Cameroon.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s opponents in Group B, Malawi have started a ten-day camp in Saudi Arabia. Malawi will play two friendly matches against Mali and Comoros in preparation for AFCON.
