Former spokesperson of the Elton Mangoma led Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe (RDZ) Pishayi Muchauraya who recently crossed floor to the Tsvangirai led MDC-T has described his move to Tsvangirai as a realisation that only numbers will remove Mugabe
Muchauraya who was a former MDC-T Makoni North legislator left the MDC-T after the party 2014 split in 2014 which saw a group led by Tendai Biti leaving the party over the need for leadership renewal.
The group later had disagreements with Mangoma’s forming his RDZ project in 2015 where Pishayi was elected the spokesperson at its inaugural congress.
Having vowed to support Mangoma whom he has described as an able leader and has been popular on social media for fronting his unpopular #Munhu Nechitupa (voting using IDs) campaign Muchauraya announced that he had rejoined the MDC-T at a rally in Chipinge last week.
This reporter caught up with Muchauraya who is a former provincial spokesperson for the MDC-T in Manicaland who said he had no beef against Mangoma whom he described as an brilliant leader who should sacrificed his personal interests and work with Tsvangirai.
“Mangoma is a great leader. He must think beyond personalities and out everything in the past and rekindle his union with Tsvangirai, he would be an asset in Tsvangirai’s government. There is no doubt that the man is brilliant hard worker but numbers do count in the game of politics,” he said.
The former legislator said Tsvangirai was the only suitable leader in the country’s opposition circles adding all those that wanted to remove Zanu PF must join the veteran opposition leader.
“I am following the majority who see Tsvangirai as the only person with enough numbers to challenge Mugabe. Tsvangirai has the critical, charisma and the much-needed charm to win the hearts and minds of Zimbabweans.
Asked on who should lead the proposed opposition grand coalition Muchauraya said Tsvangirai is a ‘natural leader’ and people should ‘join him’.
