Another warrant of arrest issued for 106-year-old traditional healer. According to his daughter Pamela, who is also implicated in the matter, Zinyemba is critically ill. The first warrant of arrest hasn’t been effected since last month.

A second warrant of arrest has been issued against traditional healer, Elia Godknows Zinyemba (106), after he failed to show up in court once again. Zinyemba is accused of allegedly extorting the family of the late forex dealer, Precious Nyakujara.

It is alleged that in November last year, together with Artwell Magona and Elton Dickson, they connived to write a letter, which they addressed to the late forex dealer.

The letter was taken to the late Nyakujara’s house in Glen Lorne, Harare, and was received by her husband, John Mukorera.

It was an invitation for Nyakujara to visit Zinyemba’s shrine. The court heard that Mukorera advised his mother-in-law, Josephine Edith Nyakujara, about the developments.

On November 4, 2021, Mukorera, his mother-in-law and younger brother Brian Goto, allegedly went to Zinyemba’s shrine in Musekiwa Village, Bindura.

It is the State’s case that Zinyemba claimed he had given the late Nyakujara goblins, which had helped her succeed in business. He also claimed that since her death, the goblins had no one to take care of them.

He allegedly told the family some of their members could die if no action was taken to appease the goblins. The late Nyakujara’s mother was allegedly asked to inherit the goblins but she refused.

Zinyemba allegedly went on to claim he had agreed with the late Nyakujara that whenever the goblins were to be returned, there would be a payment of 40 cattle, a house in Harare and a car.

Nyakujara allegedly begged for a downward review of the payment and they negotiated till they agreed on US$5 000 and a motor vehicle. After the rituals, she allegedly paid them US$7000.

Nyakujara later informed her uncle, Douglas Chiendambuya, of the incident and they arranged to meet at a local hotel.

Chiendambuya brought Justice Muzungu to the indaba and he told Nyakujara that Zinyemba had made him go through a similar ordeal, after his father’s death.

Nyakujara then filed a police report for extortion. Marian Furidze appeared for the State.
