Peter Moyo drops a Valentine album. In an interview with H-Metro, the singer said he was ready to challenge other artists, who specialise in reggae, amapiano and Afro beats. “People have been comparing me with my father but one thing for certain is that I will never match his feat.
The 32-year-old, who has adopted the new stage name, ‘‘DJ Mapepetso,’’ said his latest album, which is already available online and is playing on various radio stations, was his Valentines’ Day present.
“I have received a lot of criticism but I think now is the right time to show them my other side. “In this album, I have done what no sungura artist has ever tried. This was also my Valentine’s present,” he said.
His album carries 10 tracks, ‘‘Happy,’’ an amapiano song, ‘‘Kumbira’’ (conscious), ‘‘Chichi’’ (Afro beat), ‘‘Hupenyu’’ (conscious), ‘‘Dairawo’’ (amapiano), ‘‘Chiedza’’ (conscious), ‘‘Maulenge’’ (Afro beat), ‘‘Mbereko’’ (conscious), ‘‘Babe’’ (Afro beat) and another conscious track, ‘‘Ndiwe.’’
The Utakataka Express boss gave credit to his producer, who advised him to take the new route.
“I have been working with my producer, Oscar Chamba, who created most of the beats, after seeing my potential.
“It was quite an amazing experience. “To my sungura fans, I will definitely release something for them in 2023. I will also release Mixed Bag Volume 2 in August.
“At the moment, I am busy with videos and to date I have done all the 10 videos of Mixed Bag Volume 1.” Moyo has released five albums after taking over the reins at Utakataka Express, following the death of his father Tongai, on October 14, 2011.
