Fifty-three (53) returning citizens escaped from the Beitbridge quarantine centre last week and are still at large.

Posting on their Twitter page, police said the returnees escaped from the facility on March 17 and 18. Said the police:

Police are investigating 53 cases of abscondment from Beitbridge Quarantine Centre on 17 March and 18 March.

The ZRP urges all visitors and citizens entering the country to go through all necessary protocols which were put in place by the Government of Zimbabwe to curtail the spread of COVID-19.

Returning residents are obliged to present the result certificate of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 48 hours before their departure to Zimbabwe.

Those who fail to present the certificates are required to quarantine for 10 days at their own cost.
