Mzansi media personality and actress Pearl Thusi has divided social media following her recent remarks about people wearing fake luxury items.
The actress sparked controversy when she questioned why some people opt for fake luxury designer labels instead of just buying things that they can afford.
Writing on social media, Pearl Thusi said, ‘Why do people wear fake luxury items rather than just wear the real deal of what you can afford?‘

Perhaps due to Pearl’s stature, the post received a lot of coverage and engagement and seemed to divide Mzansi social media users.
Some people accused the actress of being detached from reality and speaking from a privileged position. The actress’ remarks did not seem to sit well with them, and they let the actress know in no uncertain terms.
Some social media users said that privileged people should not police what other people, who may not be as fortunate, buy.
However, others did not see anything wrong with the media personality’s remarks. They argued that people should simply learn to live within their means instead of putting up a false facade.
Below are some of the responses to Pearl Thusi’s remarks.

@MRelebohile1001: We have made luxury brands an achievement, which are not. If there were enough supply of local brands, it would be great if we supported those and stopped spending lots of money on imports.
