A ROW over the spilling of water into another man’s mining pit landed a Karoi man in trouble when he was jailed for murder.
Joseph Simbi (18) of village 5C, Dambanzara, Karoi, appeared at the High Court before Justice Philda Muzofa, charged with murder.
He was sentenced to six years in prison while two years were suspended for five years.
Simbi will serve an effective four years in jail.
The complainant is the now deceased, Gift Ngangani, who was aged 20 years at the time of his death.
Herekiya Maromo, for the State, told the court that on April 3, last year, Simbi approached Ngangani, who was in the company of his wife, Josephine Tsongani, and a neighbour, Kenneth Noah, at his homestead.
He started accusing Ngangani of allowing water, which he had used to purify gold ore on the previous day, to spill over into his gold mining pit.
An exchange of words followed and Simbi charged towards Tsongorani and struck her once, on the right cheek.
This prompted the now late Ngangani to intervene and it led to a fight.
Simbi used an Okapi knife to stab the Ngangani, inflicting a deep cut wound on the victim.
Ngangani collapsed and died due to excessive bleeding.
Police attended the scene on the same day and arrested Simbi.
