President Mnangagwa congratulates Kenyan President William Ruto

President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has congratulated William Ruto on his election as the new President of Kenya.

Incumbent Kenyan Vice President William Ruto won Kenya’s Presidential election beating his rival, Raila Odinga with 50.4% of the vote.

Congratulating Mr Ruto via his official Twitter page, President Mnangagwa said he has no doubt that the President elect can lead Kenya with distinction.

“Congratulations to William Ruto on his election as the next President of Kenya. I have no doubt he will serve his country, his people, and our continent with distinction,” he said.

In his speech, Mr Ruto thanked his supporters for victory saying he is confident that unity will continue in the United Republic of Kenya.

Mr Ruto said he wants to be a president of all adding that the country should focus on the future.

Meanwhile, Celebrations have broken out in several parts of Kenya including in Mr Ruto’s strongholds of the Rift Valley, and that of his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, in the Central region.

This was the first time Ruto, aged 55 ran for presidency after serving as deputy president for 10 years.

He however fell out with President Uhuru Kenyatta, who backed Mr Odinga to succeed him.
