Advocate Fadzayi Mahere arrested for holding soccer tournament… So she was being questioned by the police and today she shared on her Facebook how it went and why she was arrested.
Adv Fadzayi Mahere was released from custody on the night of Saturday 28 October 2017 following six hours of questioning. Upon her release, the Law and Order Section of Harare Central Police Station indicated that they would contact her lawyer, Mr David Drury, on Monday 30 October 2017 in order for her to appear in court on this day. As at 15.00hrs today (30 October 2017), the police were yet to contact Mr Drury.
Mr Drury has since written to the Law and Order Section of Harare Central Police in order to establish whether or not the charges will be persisted with.

Adv Mahere had been requested to sign a warned and cautioned statement which contained a charge under section 25 of the Public Order and Security Act [Chapter 11:17] relating to the holding of the Shanduko Inter-neighbourhood Soccer Tournament. The criminality appears to arise from the fact that the soccer tournament was held without seeking police clearance. The police declined to give Mr Drury a copy of the warned and cautioned statement.
The campaign maintains that the arrest contravened the Constitution and that the holding of the tournament fell squarely within the confines of the law.
The campaign will continue to update the public on the progress of the case. The campaign is advised by Adv Mahere’s legal team that all rights have been reserved under law including the prospect of a damages claim arising from the malicious arrest that took place on Saturday.
