Vatican Ambassador, Archbishop Mareck Zalewski has hailed the government for its commitment to free, fair and credible 2018 harmonised elections.

Archbishop Zalewski on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on Vice President Retired General Constantino Chiwenga where discussions centred on various issues including the nation’s preparedness for the 2018 harmonised elections.

Speaking to the ZBC News, Archbishop Zalewski said the Vatican, which is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church in Italy, is impressed with the peaceful environment prevailing in the country ahead of the polls.

“We are really impressed with the peaceful environment ahead of the polls and we hope the trend will continue for the benefit of everyone within the country,” he said.

Some of the issues that were discussed during the meeting include policies in which the Roman Catholic Church can continue to facilitate socio-economic development by massive investments in health and education.
