President Emmerson Mnangagwa says a new Zimbabwe will be built on the basis of peace, love and harmony adding that the Zanu PF leadership must commit to being listening leaders.
Addressing thousands at a Zanu PF star rally at the giant National Sports Stadium in Harare today, President Mnangagwa said leaders must commit themselves to being servants of the people as they are chosen by the electorate.
“The strength of the leadership comes from the people. After my inauguration, I met people from across all sectors while listening to their challenges. I have met the people who have said they have renewed hope for their country. Together we can create a Zimbabwe that the people want. Zanu-PF is a mass party. It does not fit in anyone’s pocket but we can all fit in its pocket,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said his administration has opened the country to the world through the Zimbabwe is open for business mantra adding that so far, $20 billion investment commitments have been made.
He also said $850 million was repatriated back into the country by people who were not named adding that the government named those that did not bring back the money and the journey is not yet over.
The President said it is Zanu PF’s will to protect the legacy of the country.
“What is wanted on Monday is only one push and have a thunderous victory for Zanu PF. I have met the old and the young and I have enjoyed it. We have addressed hundreds of thousands of people and we see hope and I share their view that something special is coming to Zimbabwe. I will never be complacent and I will work for every single vote from Zimbabweans,” he said.
He said on addressing people from varying backgrounds, he has seen hope and he shares their views that something special is coming to Zimbabwe.
On mining, President Mnangagwa said a number of mines have re-opened adding that gold production had declined but this year it will reach 30 tonnes.

The President also said cotton production is on the rise as government has improved the price of the commodity.
He said through the Command Agriculture programme Zimbabwe will forever be food self sufficient adding that the government will inject $10 million in each province to sustain agriculture.
“I am pleased and convinced that the Command Agriculture programme is progressing well throughout the country. In Matabeleland we introduced Command Livestock because provinces do not produce the same. There is also Command Fisheries spearheaded by Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri,” he said.
In terms of infrastructures development, the President said MDC councilors have failed to deliver basic service delivery in the country’s major towns and cities especially Harare but now is the time for the electorate to choose a party that will improve the situation.
