Zanu PF has won one of the three constituencies whose results were still pending in Harare.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announced the last three outstanding National Assembly election results this morning, with Zanu PF’s Tongai Mnangagwa winning in Harare South, to take the ruling party’s parliamentary tally to 145 out of 210 seats.
Vimbayi Java Tsvangirai, the daughter of the late former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, and Susan Matsunga won for the MDC Alliance in Glenview South and Mufakose to take their tally to 63.
The MDC Alliance fielded two candidates in Harare South and that backfired as votes were split.
The winning candidate, Mnangagwa polled 24503 votes, MDC Alliance’s Shadreck Mashayamombe 21363 and Tichaona Saurombe of the same party 7868 votes.
Meanwhile, ZEC has confirmed that results of the presidential election will be announced at anytime today when the collation and verification process is complete.
ZEC Spokesperson, Commissioner Qhubani Moyo told a media briefing in Harare that chief election agents of the candidates are currently verifying the V11 forms and once that legal requirement is complete, the results will be announced.
