The Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance has filed its papers challenging the presidential election results in which the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) declared the incumbent, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa as the winner.

According to ZEC, the President elect secured 50.8 percent of the votes against his closest rival, Chamisa’s 43.3 percent.

After a whole week of press conference after press conference, the opposition party finally filed its papers with the Constitutional Court challenging the presidential result.

The legal team representing Chamisa, which included Advocate Thabani Mpofu and Chris Mhike, arrived at the Constitutional Court after 3.pm this Friday, with bundles of papers and as soon as they entered the Registrar’s Office, Mr Chamisa’s Chief Election Agent and other officers came out and cris-crossed the ConCourt and High Court several times before they finally pronounced that they had successfully filed their challenge.

Advocate Mpofu said the applicant has enough evidence including alleged statistical misrepresentations by the elections administration body, ZEC and other factors that included an uneven playing field.

The Constitutional Court has 14 days to decide on the matter.
