The declaration of Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa as the winner of the July 30, 2018 elections by the Constitutional Court today has sent Zanu PF supporters across the country into wild celebrations, with many saying the conclusion of the legal challenge should transform into national development.
In Harare, thousands of the ruling party’s supporters converged at the Zanu PF headquarters where large television sets were mounted, and soon after the historic Constitutional Court ruling, the supporters burst into song and dance.
In Bulawayo, there were two television sets at the provincial headquarters for supporters to follow the live proceedings and as soon as the court threw out Nelson Chamisa’s challenge, there were wild celebrations.
Those who spoke said the court’s verdict is proof that Zimbabwe is a mature democracy.
Others said the onus now lies on the President elect to put in place a competent team that shall deliver on his election promises.
For the Bulawayo community, the resuscitation of industry remains the number one priority as it will culminate in job creation.
In Marondera, Mashonaland East Province, residents welcomed the court judgement.
With some following the proceedings in bars and others on radio stations played in cars, for the victors, the celebrations could not be complete without the sound of Jah Prayzah’s Kutonga Kwaro.
In Chipinge, Manicaland Province, the anxiety to know the outcome was evident on the many faces that gathered at public places and glued on their television sets.
Those who spoke to the ZBC News after the court ruling said the judges’ verdict was based on credible findings and not favouritism.
Others said that the event has proved to the whole world that the new political dispensation is serious about promoting democracy and upholding the rule of law.
In Gweru and Zvishavane, all in the Midlands Province, locals pledged their commitment to fully support Cde Mnangagwa’s administration in order to turn around the country’s economic fortunes in the next five years.
The party’s provincial leadership congratulated Cde Mnangangwa on his court victory and called for unity of purpose as the country shifts its focus towards nation building.
Engineer Daniel MacKenzie Ncube together with Zanu PF provincial spokesperson, Cde Cornelious Mpereri said the President elect will be a president of the entire nation and that those from the opposite side should now bury their differences and join in nation building.
Prior to the announcement, the streets of Gweru were deserted as people were glued to their screens eagerly awaiting the court’s verdict.
This was the same in Victoria Falls, Matabeleland North Province, where the world’s 7th natural wonder was temporarily eclipsed as the entire Victoria Falls community and visitors shifted their focus to the Constitutional Court proceedings.
In Chiredzi, Masvingo Province, people said they accept the judgement and called for unity to continue prevailing throughout the country.
