Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Dr Sylvia Utete-Masango has urged youths to take part in the revamping of the country’s economy by being innovative through the use of technology.
Speaking during a hand over ceremony of laptops at Mavhudzi High School in Nyazura Dr Utete-Masango said teachers should prepare pupils’ minds to come up with innovations that will help with the economy.
She urged the youngsters to start working towards President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s goal of making Zimbabwe a middle income country by 2030.
“Technology is moving at a fast pace. Our President is always saying we are open for business but as a people of education how are we preparing the mindsets of the children? Teachers should push pupils to be innovative. We should take part in the country’s economy,” she said.
The school’s headmaster, Mr Elliot Chimbade attributed the school’s success to the team work showed by all stakeholders.
“We are living in a rapidly changing world and we should be able to move with time. Technology enhances research and information is easily accessible. Moreso, it brings improved communication and networking. Now that you have the necessary equipment, enjoy learning though technology,” he said.
Mavhudzi High School was crowned the best secondary school in Manicaland for 2016 and as part of the award the school received 45 laptops, a projector and an interactive board.
The school was the recipient of the Permanent Secretary’s merit award last year.
The computers will help both teachers and students to advance technologically whilst fulfilling the mandate of the new curriculum.
