Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo Legacy Foundation will soon start receiving financial support from the government to maintain and preserve the legacy of the late vice president Dr Joshua Nkomo.

Speaking after the tour of Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo Museum in Matsheumhlope on Friday (yesterday), Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga said there was need to protect and preserve the late vice president Nkomo’s values which were fundamental in building Zimbabwe.

“From now we will be talking with National Monuments and Museums so that this place is well protected, well looked at and clean. I know it takes a bit of money that is responsibility of government and we will continue as government to assist and commemorate this day year after year. This place must be spruced up so that the legacy of Father Zimbabwe is not lost,” he said.

Retired General Chiwenga urged Zimbabweans to emulate principles of the late vice president Nkomo if the country is to be successful.

“Dr Joshua Nkomo stood for unity. He loved his country. He wanted peace and he could tolerate anything. Tolerance was one of his biggest virtues. So today we say people of Zimbabwe must learn that unity, love, peace and tolerance will build this country to the greatest heights,” he said.

The Joshua Nkomo Legacy Foundation official launch coincided with the ongoing Sanganai/Hlanganani Travel and Tourism Expo and its mission is to celebrate the life and works of Dr Joshua Nkomo.
