Health authorities in Beitbridge district have been criticised for non-convincing claims that they are setting up a cholera treatment centre as a contingent measure in case of any outbreak in the border town.

While presenting a report to a visiting delegation led by Beitbridge East legislator Cde Albert Nguluvhe, Beitbridge Medical Officer Dr Lenos Samhere said the cholera treatment centre will be ready by this Friday.

This, however, did not go down well with Senator Tambudzani Mohadi who argued that more should have been done by now.

Senator Mohadi challenged the district health team to move with urgency considering that the border town handles thousands of local and regional traffic on a daily basis.

Cde Nguluvhe called on all people in the border town to work in unison in the anti-cholera drive saying the epidemic knows no political bias.

The major concern is that being one of the busiest ports of entry, by now Beitbridge District should have set up emergency facilities in case of any cholera outbreak.

The district has, however, insists it is guided by an epidemic prevention plan and has adequate facilities, drugs and personnel in place.
