Youths in Harare have taken cleaning campaigns not only as a health precautionary measure but a way to improve social relations among themselves.
Following the recent rampart cholera outbreak in the capital youth organisations have taken a positive step of cleaning the central business district (CBD) as part of efforts to contain the deadly epidemic and keep the city clean.
The youths also said the clean-up campaigns are not only confined to Harare, but indicated that plans are already underway to conduct them throughout the country’s provinces.
Zimbabwe Youth Council operations director Mr Sungano Chisina told the ZBC News that the cleaning sessions are also meant to bring together youths from all backgrounds and encourage them to find each other and contribute positively towards a social good.
“We have taken this cleaning initiative as youth organisations to come together, and work as one and unite,” said Mr Chisina.
The youth groups have also partnered with various organisations and institutions including the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, the Harare City Council, TelOne and EMA among others.
