Greek Orthodox Church Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, His Beatitude Theodoros II has expressed optimism that Zimbabwe will recover and catch up fast with the rest of the world due to the hardworking nature and patriotism of its people.
The Egypt based head of the Greek Orthodox Church on the continent said this when he met with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at Munhumutapa offices in Harare this morning.
The aim of his meeting with Cde Mnangagwa was to congratulate him on his ascendancy to the highest office following his victory in the July 30 harmonised elections.
His Beatitude Pope Theodoros II said he has a special attachment to Zimbabwe as it was during his tenure as Arch Bishop of his church in Zimbabwe 14 years ago that he was appointed to lead his church on the continent.
The Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria, who was on his way to Rome, Italy for a religious peace summit, said he will help Zimbabwe to invite investors in his journeys across Africa and Europe.
Cde Mnangagwa was given a gift of a picture depicting Mother Mary and Baby Jesus at the end of the discussions.
His Beatitude Theodoros II was accompanied by Greek Orthodox Metropolitan in Zimbabwe and the Greek Orthodox Metropolitan in Guinea Conakry and the Greek Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Leonidas Contovounesios.
