Three families under chief Zephania Ntantanana Sigola have been left homeless after the owners of a local mine demolished their homes on the 18th of October 2018.

Mthwakazi Republic Party President Mqondisi Moyo, Vice President Presia Ngulube, foreign Affairs Secretary Njabulo Ngwenya and National organiser Malwande Nyathi, visited one of the affected villagers Flattah Ngwenya.  Ngwenya broke down in tears when MRP leadership visited her at her lodging in Mzilikazi in Bulawayo

She narrated her ordeal which started with her being a known and active opposition supporter. She has build her home in a family land that has been long utilised as a field. The mine has changed ownership three times but the previous owners who were all white, lived peaceful with her family. The new owners, known as Sheperd Tawira and Peter Nyashanu, from Mashonaland have given them a torrid time, working with the police and ward 2 ZANU PF councillor Shumirai Mushangwe to forcefully evict those perceived as opponents.

The most worrying fact is that Flattah was never at any time served with an eviction notice. The miner is said to have come up with some people putting on overalls, 6 policemen from Esigodini and a messenger of court Mr B Ndebele. They even denied the occupants who are relatives of Flattah to remove their belongings, leading to the loss of cash amounting to R1000, $1330 and 700 bonds and Brian Ngwenya’s national I.D.

The local leadership is said to be aggrieved by the brutality of these mine owners and a petition is already being signed to force the mine to vacate the area.  The village head Billy Mthombeni, a ZANU PF supporter, is said to be powerless in solving this human rights abuse case. Access to housing is enshrined in the constitution and other international charters as a basic human right.

Miss Flattah Ngwenya, apart from the damage of her property that is estimated at $800, had her big house that cost her $12000 razed down to a pile of rubble.

It is saddening that black businessmen torments our people while they had a cordial relationship with white owners. This is testimony to the tribal hegemony that we have endovored to fight against, as Mthwakazi Republic Party.

“We urge our people to resist this tribal and political looting and colonisation of Matabeleland” said MRP.
