DYNAMOS have extended coach Lloyd Mutasa’s probation, with the Glamour Boys’ leadership insisting that they need more time to make a decision whether or not the gaffer will be handed the job substantively.

Mutasa’s five-match probation ended on Sunday with the former DeMbare midfielder securing his team’s first home league victory with a 2-0 win over Ngezi Platinum Stars.

It was the first time, too, that Dynamos had scored in league action at home.

Mutasa, who lasted seven months when he was first given the job in 2011, collected nine out of a possible 15 points in the five games he was in charge.

DeMbare president Kenny Mubaiwa said that they want another assessment of the coach before they make a decision and Mutasa’s probation has been extended.

“We are still to discuss the way forward regarding our coach, but I can say we are still considering his performance and future at the club,” said Mubaiwa.

“It is a process which doesn’t just end with the first five games he has been in charge.

“We are still reviewing his performance.

“But we have told him to concentrate on winning matches in every game and not to look at the five games that we had talked about because that will end up confusing him.

“He should just carry on with his duties, concentrate and we will come up with a firm position as the executive after we meet.”

Mubaiwa said he was happy that Dynamos have now started to win matches after a dreadful start to the season.

We have just won at home and we had been struggling to do that and they even scored two goals. But there is still a lot more to do and to expect from the team,” said Mubaiwa.

Mutasa is being assisted by former Dynamos skipper Murape Murape, who was appointed last month when Portuguese gaffer Paulo Silva was relieved of his duties, with Gift Muzadzi being the goalkeepers’ coach.

The Glamour Boys clawed back into the top eight for the first time this season and are in eighth place with 14 points.

Bitter rivals CAPS United lead the championship race with 21 points.

Mutasa has won three games, including two away wins over Tsholotsho and Chapungu, while losing against FC Platinum, which torched crowd trouble and a 0-2 loss to Highlanders — the Glamour Boys’ first defeat to Bosso in a league match in 10 years.

The players and supporters have dedicated all the remaining league matches to the supporters who died in a road accident last week on their way to Gweru to watch the match against Chapungu.

DeMbare will meet Harare City this weekend in a derby which promises to be explosive.

The Sunshine Boys have been a transformed since former Dynamos coach Moses “Bambo” Chunga took over as their gaffer when he replaced Taurai Mangwiro.

They have won two games on the trot — both played away from home — and could even afford to do so without three players who were away in Namibia with the national team.

Raphael Manuvire, Edwin Madhananga and Blessing Moyo are now back and will have to fight for their places in a team that has been on a winning streak in their absence.

The game will also see midfielder Ronald “Rooney” Chitiyo taking on the Glamour Boys, where he made a big impression, before deciding to take his talents elsewhere at the beginning of this season.

Chitiyo scored for Harare City in their first win under Chunga when they beat struggling newboys Ngezi Platinum Stars 2-1.
