President Emmerson Mnangagwa targets finance criminals

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has talked tough of criminals who are siphoning public funds assuring the nation that they will face the full wrath of the law.

Mnangagwa was officiating the Public Sector Audit Conference on Thursday.

“Financial crimes have become more sophisticated and this means we have to adopt modern contemporary audit systems. Criminal and retrogressive culprits will face the full wrath of the law. It is sad that we continue to lose large sums of money through procurement manipulation, fraud etc in public and private sectors,” Mnangagwa said.

“The 2nd Republic will not tolerate siphoning of public funds for personal gain.

“This event presents us with an opportunity to reflect on developments and challenges in the public sector. Public accountants and auditors are a vital tool in the quest to fight corruption.

A well functioning public sector requires specialized services to maintain commercial viability and profitability.

“Lets harness immense potential among young graduates coming out of universities to develop home grown tools required to address fiscal management.Play your part and positively contribute to the overall economic stability of our country.”

In October Zimbabwe Reserve Bank  suspended four senior officials implicated in alleged scandals including the leaking of bond notes to the parallel market.
The corruption claims were made  by William Gerald Mutumanje, known as Acie Lumumba, who was  appointed and later fired  by Finance Minister  Dr. Mthuli Ncube as a consultant and spokesperson of the Ministry of Finance.

The officials who were suspended indefinitely are the director of the Supervision Department of Reserve Bank Supervision Norman Mataruka, director financial markets Azvinandaa Saburi, director financial intelligence Mirirai Chiremba and head of security Gresham Muradzikwa.
