MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has said that his struggle against ZANU PF is not about personal power but about achieving a Zimbabwe where there is happiness, justice and peace.

“For me, it is not about personal power but people power for the common good and collective happiness.” Chamisa said. “Give me that and I will be silent and holding my peace forever!”

“The fight for democracy, happiness, justice and peace has over the years brought us attempts on our lives by those with power. That same fight will earn us more such attempts, if not worse, all designed to eliminate or silence us. We shall overcome!”

Chamisa’s statements comes out amid reports that Nelson Chamisa has reportedly triggered a fresh bid to elbow out senior party leaders suspected of plotting to challenge him for the party presidency at congress next year.

Insiders said Chamisa has called for extra-ordinary national council on Friday at which he is mulling a push for the suspension of secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora and vice-president Elias Mudzuri, cited as two leading contenders for his position at the elective congress slated for next year.

The opposition party was expected to go to congress next February, but the elective indaba reportedly now hangs in the balance amid reports that Chamisa wants it pushed to around October, as he seeks to consolidate his position at the top and buy time to deal with his challengers.
