The Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Kirsty the budget allocation to her Ministry and assured the nation that she will monitor budget expenditure.
Posting on micro blogging suite Twitter on Thursday Coventry said, “My ministry’s budget has been announced, we will need to come together to make this work for Youth, Sport, Art and Recreation. We have a massive population to look after and with the right partnerships we can do this. Expenditure will be monitored very closely.”
To ease government expenditure, Treasury also announced that it will be retiring 2 917 Youth Officers who are still on government payroll be end of December 2018
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday Minister of Finance Mthuli Ncube said, “The 2 917 Youth Officers who still remain on the payroll, are being retired and the posts removed from the establishment, by end of December 2018.
“At its 38th Meeting of 5 December 2017, Cabinet re-affirmed its decision to terminate employment contracts of 3 188 Youth Officers as previously resolved.”
Most of the youth officers are Zanu PF militia who graduated from the late Zanu PF political commissar Boarder Gezi-initiated national youth service programme which government abandoned in 2003.
