ZERA sets record straight on fuel prices in the country. The new prices would see petrol retailing at ZWL23.97, an increase of 31% from its previous price of ZWL18.28. Diesel was pegged at 24.79 from its current price of 19.55. Motorists woke up to a shock yesterday following a fake Press Statement from the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority announcing new fuel prices.
Over the past week, the country has been dry with speculation that Dealers were holding off for a price increase. Long queues stretching for kilometres have been the order of the day with hundreds of motorists queueing at Service stations fortunate enough to get a delivery.
The Authorities are blaming the current forex shortages for the fuel challenges which has persisted for over a year now. ZERA Released The Offical Presser Below: Fake Fuel Prices on Social Media
The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) would like to advise its stakeholders and members of the public to disregard a FAKE fuel price Increase notice being circulated on some section. of social media.
Stakeholders are further advised that the fuel price review notices from the regulator bear the official ZERA stamp. The petroleum price releases by ZERA can be verified on the official ZERA website. The current fuel prices are as follows:
Diesel ZWL19.55
Blend ZWL18.28
Operators may, however, sell at prices below the cap depending on their trading advantages
Next time you see a fuel update from ZERA remember to do the follow things, lest you raise your blood pressure for nothing.
1. You can first check for the ZERA stamp, Official correspondence usually includes the ZERA stamp and the current date. Looking closely at the fake update.it has no stamp hence an obvious giveaway that it is fake.
2. Check the ZERA website, the Twitter and Facebook handle.If the update does not appear there, then it is fake news.
