More details emerge of the Newlands shooting after a nasty break-up. A Harare woman is definitely lucky to be alive after narrowly escaping death at Newlands Shopping Centre yesterday when her lover ran riot and tried to gun her down for breaking up with him. Recalling the shooting, Loraite disclosed that Chimanga pointed the gun at her during an altercation whilst in the two were seated in the car, forcing her to open the door and flee.
Loraite Magombedze-a hairstylist who works at the shopping centre-gave a chilling account of how she cheated death when her boyfriend, Joy Chimanga, fired shots at her before turning the gun on himself.
This comes after iHarare reported yesterday that an unidentified assailant was battling for life after shooting himself on the mouth following a nasty fallout with his girlfriend which saw him firing shots at her but missing the intended murder victim. Speaking to the local publication, H-Metro, Loraite, who was still in shock, narrated the ordeal and revealed that the two had been having relationships problems for some time.
We had an altercation in the car and he pointed a gun at me and I forced the door open and ran away. Ndamhanya ndikapunzika ndikamuka ndikamhanya ndikanzwa pfuti kurira saka handisati ndanyatsodzikama izvezvi.
I have been in love with Chimanga since April last year and I lost affection towards him on Saturday when I slept at his house in St Martins. He locked the doors and I slept there. My parents were angry with me and ordered me to return to his house since he is known. I had lost affection towards him and decided to go and stay with my friends. That is why I phoned him this morning (yesterday) ndichimuramba saka haanakufara nazvo.
Amid the chaos, there were claims that Loraite’s brother is the one who ordered her to return to Chimanga after learning that she had slept over at his house. He arrived at the scene where some of Loraite’s friends shouted at him for causing yesterday’s mishap.
