Miss V Candy stamping footprint on the dancehall scene. Her work and passion for the genre are starting to get recognised. Popular Star FM radio presenter, V Candy, believes she is getting a grip and stamping her own footprint on the local dancehall scene.
The radio beauty was recently awarded a gong at the Zim dancehall awards for her radio show that promotes local dancehall mainly focusing and promotion little known and upcoming chanters. The show is simply known as “Party Radio” airs every Friday from 9 pm to 12 midnight.
V Candy who also happens to be the first female radio Zim dancehall presenter described her journey as not so easy as it was difficult to be accepted within the dancehall showbiz but her passion for the genre has kept her going.
“I feel I have a grip now and dancehall fans and artists and in the industry as a whole are now appreciating me which is really motivating to me. “The genre is hugely dominated by males and so for females, it’s not really easy but my passion for the genre has got me this far.
“I have a following now on the show and more and more artists and just about everyone within the dancehall fraternity has come to terms with my role in the game. “It’s something that really uplifts me and just the recent award means so much to me because that’s a recognition that I am contributing something,” said V Candy.
She added: “I like Zim dancehall and fell in love with it because it is true to the Zimbabwean story and also because I am passionate about the ghetto lifestyle and the youths themselves.
“I am a fan of good music beyond but Zim dancehall has that special place in my heart.” V Candy who has also been an emcee at a number of Zim dancehall shows said her mission is to uplift the little known artistes hence they are the ones that always get the bigger platform on her show.
