Singer implicated in Lesotho’s Prime Minister’s First Wife murder. The Lesotho police have issued warrants of arrest for three more accused persons in the matter concerning the murder of Prime Minister Tom Thabane’s ex-wife Lipolelo. The trio includes legendary musician, Rethabile Chakela Sello, Seabata Sello and Molefi Matima.

This brings the number of accused persons to five. The other 2 are the current first Lady of Lesotho, Maesiah and the Prime Minister of Lesotho Thomas Thabane.

The name of Chakela is well known for traditional turf wars in Lesotho and South Africa. The gangs have caused bloodshed in both Lesotho and South Africa.

He has been linked to Lipolelo Thabane’s murder by people including Prime Minister Tom Thabane’s daughter, who later apologised. But police have now put the South African-based musician on their wanted list with two other suspects.

First lady Maesiah Thabane has already been charged with murder but the constitutional court is yet to decide if Prime Minister Tom Thabane can be charged while still in office.

Thabane told a court through his lawyers that he cannot be charged over the murder of his estranged wife because his position makes him immune from prosecution.

Thabane has already announced that he would step down from his position in July. Lipolelo Thabane was gunned down at close range on the side of the road while returning to her home in a village near the capital, Maseru. Before her murder, she had been involved in bitter divorce proceedings with Thabane.

At the time, the prime minister was already living with Maesaiah, who is now 42, as if she were his wife. Lipolelo had already won a separate legal battle to be recognised as First Lady, rather than Maesiah.
