Mary Mubaiwa in a night car chase after a day in court with VP Chiwenga. Embattled second lady Mary Mubaiwa whose divorce wrangle with Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga has hogged headlines is said to be under massive surveillance from assailants alleged to be hired by the deputy head of state, iHarare can report from The Times.
According to the publication, the former model has suffered heavy threats and movie-style late-night car chases from suspected state agents and Chiwenga loyalists after her tumultuous divorce from the army general who toppled the long-standing leader Robert Mugabe. In an interview with the publication, Mary revealed that she was living in fear.
Her comments have shed rare light on the upper echelons of power in the southern African state and painted a picture of lavish wealth enjoyed by an unaccountable few, while millions lurch towards starvation and the economy withers.
