Marvelous Nakamba’s coach praises him despite team thumped 4 – 0

Marvelous Nakamba’s coach praises him despite team thumped 4 – 0. ASTON Villa manager Dean Smith has singled out Zimbabwe international Marvelous Nakamba as the outstanding player in their 4-0 defeat to Leicester City in a Premier League encounter Monday night.

The result meant Villa missed an opportunity to move out of the drop zone as they now sit second from bottom with 25 points. They have now gone for four consecutive Premier League defeats. And after a disappointing night at King Power, Smith told Sky Sports that his boys gave the ball away unnecessarily.

He, however, said Nakamba was the best man on the pitch for the visitors. The 26-year-old, who was making his 18th Premier League start, gave a good account of himself despite the humiliating defeat.

“One of our biggest disappointments today (Monday) was that we gave away the ball too often, probably with the exception of Marvelous [Nakamba] who I thought was our best player on the night,” Smith told Sky Sports. Harvey Barnes and substitute Jamie Vardy scored twice each as Leicester ran riot to consolidate their third place on the standings.

Nakamba was rated as the best player for Villa by the club’s writer Ashley Preece who writes for Birmingham Mail. The publication wrote The Foxes capitalised on comical errors by Villa. Nakamba was, however, described as the best player for the second game running but his efforts were not complemented to get a positive result.

The Zimbabwean was rated 5.5/10, the best for all Villa players.

“Crunched Maddison just seconds in and looked to kick on from where he left off last week. For me, was Villa’s best player for the second game running and appeared to do it all on his own. Wasn’t given much help at all and tried until the very end in the middle on his lonesome,” reported Birmingham Mail.

The applauses for Nakamba came after Smith made similar sentiments for the midfielder in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final last Sunday. Nakamba has made 26 appearances for Villa since his summer move from Belgian side Club Brugge. The midfielder will hope to help Aston Villa, who have now lost their previous five games, return to winning ways when they face Chelsea on Saturday.
