All, except one, Occupy Africa Unity Square (OAUS) activists were on Tuesday removed from remand and the State will proceed by way of summons.

The protesters started occupying the famous park in June in peaceful demonstration against President Robert Mugabe’s continued rule, which they said had run down the country.

Police invaded the square and arrested the occupiers, among them Lynda Masarira, Tatenda Mombeyarara, Pride Mkono, Pamela Mawire, Makomborero Haruzivishe, Irene Takavada, Shadreck Dhliwayo and Brian Kansunzuma.

They were subsequently granted $1,000 bail.

Only Masarira remains in jail and has been in custody for more than a month.

The State insists that she has another pending case related to skipping bail in Mutare, and she will be back at the Mbare magistrates’ court on Thursday.

Mombeyarara said in a statement they would go to the court in solidarity with Masarira and hoped that she would be given back her freedom.
