A HARARE man is standing accused of raping his daughter on several occasions since the year she started school in 2005.
The 46-year-old,whose name has been withheld for legal reasons,was hauled to the Harare magistrates’ court charged with rape and attempted rape.
The man,who is being represented by lawyer Nathaniel Chigoro,was not asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before magistrate Jessy Kufa who remanded him out of custody to June 10 on US$50 bail.
State counsel,Peter Kachirika,had it that on an unknown date but sometime in 2005 the mother of the girl left home for work leaving the girl in her father’s custody.
On the same day,the man is said to have been visited by a friend ,which forced the daughter to leave the room and went to play outside.
When his friend had gone,the man is said to have called his daughter into the house where he laid her on the bed.
Allegations are that he also undressed his daughter and raped her.
The courts also heard that the Kuwadzana man ordered his daughter to take a bath and not reveal the se_xual abuse to anyone.
On another incident,the man is alleged to have raped his daughter in his car which was parked in the garage at his house.
Further accusations are that,on another separate date,he also took advantage of electricity outrage and raped his daughter whilst his wife was preparing food outside their house.
Reports are that the man later abandoned his family to stay with another woman and his daughter was now in grade 4.
Reports are that he visited his former wife with intentions to give her some groceries and found the girl at home.
It is said that he asked the girl to look for her mother’s medical aid card in her bedroom.
The State alleges that the man followed the girl and asked to ‘play games’ with her.
She reportedly refused but her father threatened to beat her.
Out of fear,the girl is said to have given in ending up with her father raping her.
The matter came to light after the girl revealed the matter leading to her father’s arrest.
