Komichi: Khupe is not a member of POLAD. Reinstated national chairperson of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party, Morgen Komichi has said that the party’s reinstated leader, Thokozani Khupe, has to withdraw from the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) forum.
Komichi said that Khupe who had joined POLAD with her MDC outfit (MDC-T) she had formed in 2018 has not yet been given the mandate to be in the forum by the party she now leads. Speaking to the Daily News, Komichi said:
What we know is that we are not a member of Polad and Khupe has not been mandated to represent the party. That issue will have to be considered after the extra-ordinary congress if there is need to do so. At the moment, Khupe is not a member of Polad.
Khupe and Nelson Chamisa have been embroiled in a power wrangle since the demise of the founding leader of the MDC, Morgan Tsvangirai.
When Khupe pulled out of the “main” MDC following the death of Tsvangirai, Chamisa continued to lead the party which refused to be part to POLAD which was initiated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
