Brad Pitt has broken his silence on his divorce from Angelina Jolie.
The 52-year-old actor released a statement on Tuesday, Sept. 20 addressing the couple’s highly-publicized split.
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids,” he told People. “I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time
Angelina, 41, filed for divorce from her Mr. and Mrs. Smith costar and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation after just two years of marriage. The actress also released a statement following the unexpected news.
“Angelina will always do what’s in the best interest to protect her children,” her manager said on behalf of the star. “She appreciates everyone’s understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
Brad and Angelina married in August 2014 after dating for 10 years. The couple are parents to six kids —Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, both 8 — together.
