Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe suffers major setback

Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe suffers a major setback. Reports suggest Kazembe, who is also the Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, called for a PEC meeting which he chaired and managed to co-opt four members, three of whom are his allies who were allegedly put to fight in his corner.

ZANU PF Mashonaland Central Provincial Chairman Kazembe Kazembe reportedly suffered a major defeat after the party’s commissariat department reversed his decision to co-opt new members into the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).

Kazembe was accused of demoting the provincial political commissar known as Tsine to the post of vice-chairperson, a less influential post. He also co-opted one Kararira who is his close ally and his right-hand man, Mudzingwa, was made the vice secretary for security.

Mazowe Central member of parliament Sydney Chidamba was also co-opted to deputy secretary for finance. However, ZANU PF Acting National Political Commissar Patrick Chinamasa confirmed that the co-options are illegal therefore null and void.

Kazembe is accused of making the co-options in a move to consolidate his power base ahead of provincial elections set to be held in line with the ZANU PF constitution.

He reportedly faces competition from James Makamba, Lazarus Dokora, Sam Parirenyatwa, and Monica Mavhunga who are vying for the Provincial chairmanship.

Kazembe has been accused of using his position in Government to cause the arrest of his opponents on trumped-up charges. Bulawayo24 quoted a ZANU PF official as saying: Nicholas Goche fell victim to Kazembe’s wrath after he was arrested on livestock allegations at the behest of Kazembe who is the Minister responsible for the police.

Lazarus Dokora the chairman of the ZANU PF Mash Central working committee for the party’s National People’s conference was also demoted by Kazembe from chairman to coordinator.

Kazembe unilaterally demoted Dokora after reports that Dokora was a clear favourite to land the provincial chairmanship.

Douglas Mwonzora: I am proud of Muzorewa – Video. Opposition MDC-T leader Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora has praised the late former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe Rhodesia Abel Tendekayi Muzorewa as being the best nationalist Zimbabwe has ever had.

Speaking in an interview with TechMag, Mwonzora says he is proud of Mwonzora that he is proud of the late President Robert Gabriel Mugabe.

Mwonzora, a former member of the now defunct United Parties (UP) led by Bishop Abel Muzorewa, says he is proud to have assisted Muzorewa to take the government to court over the political parties finance act.

He denies that Mwonzora committed any atrocities against black people. However, the Washington Post of 27 June 1979 reported then that helicopter-borne commandos and jet fighters from Zimbabwe-Rhodesia attacked two nationalist guerrilla targets around the Zambian, killing at least 11 persons and wounding 32 others, many of them Zambians.

It was the second such daring attack inside Lusaka in the past 2 1/2 months and the first since Bishop Abel Muzorewa took over as the first black prime minister of Zimbabwe-Rhodesia.

Lorraine Moropa responds to Mangaliso Ngema who wants R12.5 million

Lithapo actress Lorraine Moropa intends to defend the R12.5 million defamation lawsuit instituted against her in June by former Generations actor Mangaliso Ngema.

The 24-year-old, who plays Pabi on the SABC2 telenovela, filed a notice of an intention to defend at the Johannesburg High Court on July 19, seeking that the court strike the matter off the roll and citing that Ngema’s hefty claim was unlikely to be proven during the trial.

Without mentioning Ngema by name, Moropa detailed in a lengthy Instagram post how she had been constantly harassed by a male senior in the workplace.

“Some of the s.e.xual acts that the cast member performed [include] grabbing their gen1tals on set while looking at your @ss or [grabbing] your @ss and [laughing it] off. This is a father who happens to speak highly of his daughter, who, by the way, is practically my age and [is] also in the industry,” she wrote.

Shortly after her post, a picture of Ngema circulated on social media as the alleged perpetrator.

But Ngema has denied any wrongdoing and claims that there are other agendas at play.

Ngema filed his claim at the same court, revealing that the s.e.xual harassment allegations levelled against him by Moropa in July last year put him under immense financial strain.

Ngema had also pointed out in his particulars of claim that the production company, Quizzical Pictures, had failed to conduct an investigation, but assumed that he was guilty.

“The plaintiff [Ngema], his family and his earning capacity were prejudiced, and remain prejudiced as a result of the forestated. Examples of the prejudice caused include, but are not limited to:

– The SABC1 drama series Family Secrets experienced a massive public outcry over the casting of the plaintiff as the lead;
-An international film, Venus Fly Trap, for which he would have been considered [to join the cast], but was not as a result of the controversy now surrounding him; and
-Matau Mining Solutions declined to invest R5.5 million in his prospective feature film Khalile, and confirmed that the [sexual assault] allegation was the reason they decided not to invest.”

Ngema said that both Moropa and Quizzical Pictures circulated the s.e.xual harassment allegations against him on social media, prompting the public to assume that they were true.

However, Moropa’s lawyers said in her notice to defend that the actor’s particulars of claim failed to constitute material facts.

They also highlight that Ngema’s pleadings were merely his own opinions and conclusions.

“The opinion of the plaintiff relating to the importance or otherwise of the facts stated herein are subjective and, accordingly, Moropa would be prejudiced by attempting to plead to the view held by Ngema.

“Such an allegation fails to serve to establish his cause of action.”

The papers further pointed out that Ngema’s claim to financial constraints as a result of sexual harassment allegations are without merit and proof.

“That the plaintiff’s particulars of claim lace pavements necessary to sustain a cause of action … the allegations by the plaintiff that his claim for future loss of income and/or earning capacity … is vague and embarrassing in the sense that the claim lacks sufficient particularity upon which the first defendant can be expected to plead thereto.”

Moropa’s lawyer, Bradley Nowikow, confirmed that they were defending the matter:

Ngema said all he wanted was to clear his name.

“There’s a very sad trend of women bringing down men unfairly and unjustly. I’m a victim of such a trend, despite my respect and protection of women’s rights. I have daughters that I love dearly, and there is no way I could harass or intentionally hurt someone else’s child. This was a case of bad judgement by my accuser and the production company, and it’s costing me a great deal financially and professionally,” said Ngema.

Bunjira pays tribute to former teammate Joe Mugabe

Bunjira pays tribute to former teammate Joe Mugabe. Mugabe (52) succumbed to cancer yesterday morning in the United Kingdom where he was staying since 2003, after a long battle with the scourge. Remembered for his footballing genius on the pitch and his humble character off it, Mugabe became a revered domestic superstar during the early 90s.

Alois Bunjira has paid an emotional tribute to the late former Caps United kingpin and posterboy Joe Mugabe, describing the former star as a “legend of a man”.

His genius on the pitch earned him high praise from local coaches, who hailed him as one of the greatest footballers to grace the domestic scene and the late Steve Kwashi is qouted on several occasions describing Mugabe’s talent as “unique and classy”.

For Bunjira, who was Mugabe’s lifelong friend, the latter was a humble unifier. “I knew him before he knew me, because he started playing for Caps United before me. I heard about him before my professional career, little did I know that we would become friends,” Bunjira said.

“For me he was a good friend and our friendship went beyond the field of play. Even when we both retired, we remained in contact and he was a strong supporter of my academy. “He would provide quality equipment for the project.

“He was a unifier because when I arrived at Caps United, most of the players were coming from Darryn T and to be honest, we were anticipating a massive division between the players who were already at the club and us who were coming from Darryn T.

“But because of him (Mugabe) and other players like Silva Chigwenje, we did not take time to be glued to each other as a team.

“They were like the glue that unified us all to become a force that we were. He was vice-captain and his brilliance in playing and leading the team did not allow anyone to argue about it because he was the best of the best and a legend of a man.” Bunjira recalled how Kode as Mugabe was nicknamed, would secretly organise special outings for the team every Monday without the club leadership’s knowledge.

“I say he was the glue to our team, because of what he did for us as a team. “Together with Silva, he would organise outings for players every Monday when we were not training, just for us to hang out and bond, something which the coaches found out after a very long time.

“That broke all the bridges and barriers we could have faced as people with different personalities. We would dine at a place called Time and Place in Harare. “That is the main thing that made that class of Caps United to be strong because we had a unity of purpose and relationships that went further than just being teammates,” he said.

Mugabe undoubtedly left an indelible mark in local football with brilliant performances for his club since being promoted into the first team in 1988. For his stellar performances, the late star was voted the club’s Player of the Year a record four times in 1993, 1994, 1998 and 2001.

He also won the 1996 Premier Soccer League title and a number of major silverware that saw Caps United earning the tag Cup Kings, which had been enjoyed by their rivals Dynamos and Highlanders.

Being vice-captain of the team, Mugabe was a pillar in the team’s surge, although his performance for the club did not take him to the national team. “Without a doubt, he is a key part of what Caps United became. Winning titles and accolades made us all proud and raised the team to become a force to reckon with in the country,” Bunjira.

“We shall forever remember his contributions to the local game and in our careers as individuals.”

1 million has so far been fully vaccinated in Zimbabwe

1 million has so far been fully vaccinated in Zimbabwe. Government has purchased doses and entered into some facilities which would ensure the country gets enough doses to inoculate around nine million of its population, with more than six million doses already in the country.

Zimbabwe has fully vaccinated more than 1 000 000 of its citizenry against the Covid-19 virus and at least 1 864 204 have received the first dose in the country’s ongoing mass vaccination campaign targeting 60 percent herd immunity, around 10 million people.

Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Constantino Chiwenga was the first person to be vaccinated against Covid-19 at a ceremony that signalled the commencement of the country’s vaccination drive.

President Mnangagwa also took his first shot in Victoria Falls which encouraged an improved uptake of the jabs from people in the resort city. Against a background of safety pessimism from some quotas which have persisted even after the World Health Organisation (WHO) assurances, the leaders publicly took their shots to assure the citizenry of the safety of the vaccines.

Recently, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and WHO rated Zimbabwe among the best countries in the world when it comes to buying and acquiring supplies of Covid-19 vaccines. Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Dr John Mangwiro talked of the work put into the campaign as well as the rationality of vaccines.

“We have used health education to improve the uptake of the Covid-19 vaccines. “We have been telling people around the country of the importance of getting vaccinated and its benefits.

“Our response is working hence this success, but we will continue working hard as well as encouraging colleagues to work an extra mile till we reach herd immunity,” he said.

“We have seen a trend that most people dying of Covid-19-related complications are not vaccinated. Even those who end up needing hospitalisation, most of them are not vaccinated.

“Vaccination is the way to go and we have increased the number of outreach teams so that people can access these vaccines easily.

“The vaccines are there, President Mnangagwa has ensured that the supply side is not a problem so we encourage people to get vaccinated to defeat this virus,” said Dr Mangwiro.

He reminded those vaccinated that they should continue following the prescribed containment measures.

Jealousy Mawarire: Hopewell Chin’ono sold out civic society members to Chiwenga?. National Patriotic Front Spokesperson and socio-political commentator Jealousy Mawarire has sensationally accused journalist and self-proclaimed corruption whistleblower Hopewell Chin’ono of selling out members of the civic society to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga during January 2019 #ShutdownZimbabwe protests.

Posting on microblogging site Twitter on Saturday, Mawarire said “Credit card scam is just one chapter, latest was selling out civil society leaders in Jan 2019 to Chiwenga and Junta-PF in a fashion that left even psychopathic Idhii (Mnangagwa) riled. Idhii, for all his evil traits, retorted that such sellouts were candidates for execution during the liberation war.”

Jealousy Mwararire

Mawarire says Chin’ono used his access to safe houses which house raped victims to get names of civic society leaders who organized the houses and in turn send them to General Chiwenga. He alleged that Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba was present throughout the briefing meeting.

Mwrire tweet

He added that “He abused trust he had from ITV news to access safe houses where raped & abused women were being kept then went on to sellout the benefactors, the people who organized safe accommodation 4 the traumatised women. @Jamwanda2_ set in a meeting in which goat well sold out the benefactors.”

Chin’ono is known as a pro-democracy and human rights champion.

Nurse in court for operating illegal clinic. Bloodwell Togara (39), who is a deregistered nurse, last week appeared before Kwekwe magistrate Mildred Matuvi facing charges of practising as a doctor of medicine and possession of dangerous drugs without a licence. He was remanded to August 25 after paying $10 000 bail.

A Kwekwe man has been arraigned before the courts for operated an unregistered clinic, pretending to be a medical doctor and prescribing drugs which were deemed dangerous, while treating COVID-19 symptoms.

Togara allegedly admitted a COVID-19 patient named Esther Musumba (80) of Mbizo, Kwekwe, on July 28, 2021 at his New Northend Clinic. Musumba, however, died the following day after Togara allegedly gave her an assortment of drugs.

Her body was taken to Nyaradzo Funeral Services in Redcliff. However, no post-mortem was done to establish the cause of death even though she had previously tested positive to COVID-19. Police obtained particulars of the deceased’s next of kin from the funeral parlour.

Investigations were conducted and Togara, of Southwood, Masasa in Kwekwe, was arrested by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers who had received information that the accused was masquerading as a medical doctor and operating an unlicensed health institution.

Police recovered an assortment of drugs and equipment at the “clinic”. The State alleges that this was not the first time Togara was caught on the wrong side of law.

On May 5, 2021, he was convicted of operating an unregistered health institution and sentenced to eight months imprisonment with an option of paying a $20 000 fine. He requested for time to pay, which was granted.

He, however, defaulted and a warrant of arrest was issued by the Kwekwe Magistrates Court under CRB 675/21. However, Matuvi ordered Togara to pay the previous fine before granting him a $10 000 bail for committing a similar offence.

Roma coach Mourinho sent off as Real Betis earn 5-2 friendly win. The hosts went 3-2 up on 57 minutes but Roma’s players argued that Alex Moreno had handled the ball over the line. Midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini received a second yellow card, while Mourinho was also sent off for protesting.

Coach Jose Mourinho was sent off as his Roma side finished Saturday’s friendly away to Real Betis with only eight men.

Gianluca Mancini and Rick Karsdorp both received second cautions in the closing stages as Betis scored twice more to seal a 5-2 win in Seville. Roma had twice come from behind, with new Uzbek signing Eldor Shomurodov cancelling out Rodri’s opener before Mancini made it 2-2 on 50 minutes after a Nabil Fekir strike.

Drama ensued after Moreno’s goal, with Cristian Tello and Rober on target as the hosts made their numerical advantage count. Betis begin their La Liga campaign away to Mallorca next Saturday, 14 August (18:30 BST).

Roma have a friendly on the same day at home to Moroccan side Raja Casablanca before a Europa Conference League play-off tie on 19 August, and their Serie A season starts at Fiorentina on 22 August (19:45 BST).

9 new positive Covid tests Premier League. Across two rounds, the Premier League conducted 3,118 tests between 2 August and 8 August.

The Premier League says nine players and club staff have tested positive for coronavirus over the past week, before the start of the 2021-22 season.

From these, there were nine new positive tests, just four days before Brentford and Arsenal kick off the season. The Premier league will maintain their twice-a-week testing programme.

This season, though, they will be using lateral flow tests in their weekly testing, and only those with a positive outcome will then take a PCR test to confirm the result. Some clubs have already had pre-season disruption due to Covid-19.

Arsenal cancelled their pre-season trip to the US after a “small number” of positive cases and Aston Villa, Manchester United and Chelsea were forced to cancel pre-season friendlies.

Lukaku flies to London to complete club-record Chelsea move

Lukaku flies to London to complete club-record Chelsea move. Romelu Lukaku left Chelsea in 2014 and earlier in the week instructed Inter Milan to allow him to leave if a suitable offer came in; Inter fans protested against the club’s Chinese owners in 2-0 friendly win at Parma on Sunday.

Romelu Lukaku is flying to London to complete his £97.5m (€115m) transfer to Chelsea from Inter Milan. The 28-year-old underwent the first part of his medical in Milan after the Italian champions agreed in principle a club-record deal to re-sign the striker.

The paperwork is now with club lawyers, and once that is formalised Lukaku is expected to sign a five-year contract. Inter have previously rejected two offers from Chelsea for the Belgium international, the second of which was worth £85m (€100m) plus left-back Marcos Alonso.

Lukaku left Chelsea in 2014 after making just 15 appearances there following his arrival at Stamford Bridge from Anderlecht in 2011. One of the most prolific strikers in Europe, Lukaku scored 87 goals in 166 games for Everton between 2014 and 2017 and found the net 42 times in 96 appearances during his two years at Manchester United before signing for Inter in 2019.

He scored 24 goals in Serie A last season, helping Inter to their first Scudetto in 11 years as the club put an end to Juventus’ nine-year reign as Italian top-flight champions.

Schools to remain closed as ED extends lockdown

Schools to remain closed as ED extends lockdown. He also pressed all Zimbabweans not yet vaccinated to get their jabs, as mass vaccination was the only practical way for the country to return to normal economic and social activity with the population protected.

The Level Four lockdown in place for six weeks to combat the third wave of Covid-19 infection has been extended by a further fortnight since infection rates, while falling significantly over the last two weeks remain too high to allow any relaxation especially as rates spike in some neighbours, President Mnangagwa announced yesterday.

Announcing the extension at State House in Harare yesterday, the President said it was worrisome that Zimbabwe’s neighbours are registering a spike in infections and that needed vigilance on the part of Zimbabwe.

The third wave started being seen in localised areas in early June with the Government responding by banning all social and religious gatherings, except funerals limited to 30 people, and then putting in a tighter lockdown in the districts where most cases were being seen: Kwekwe, Kariba, Hurungwe and Makonde.

As signs appeared that the third wave was spreading out to other areas the Government moved fast at the end of June and President Mnangagwa announced the present Level Four additional measures that allow businesses, farms and mines to stay open but cuts business hours to 8am to 3.30pm, widens the curfew to 6.30pm to 6am, bans intercity travel, and wants a majority of staff in non-essential units to work from home.

Schools were not to reopen on the announced date for the second term and are to remain closed until the Government assesses the risks are low.

The third wave average of daily infections peaked on 15 June and have been falling steadily since but the average number of daily new cases is still around 30 times as severe as seen between infection waves, although well under half the average seen at the peak when they were 70 times worse.

Average daily deaths peaked just over a week ago and have been falling since, but are still about 20 times as bad as seen between waves. The President noted that since the start of the Level Four lockdown the nation has made good progress in controlling the resurgence, and hence the third wave.

The increase in new cases per day has gone down considerably in the past two weeks, even to less than 10 percent for most provinces. This is a clear indication that the third wave, and the pandemic in general, is being brought under control.

Unfortunately, the number of new cases and deaths per day remains unacceptably high. It is for this reason that the current Level Four lockdown has to be extended by another two weeks. I urge us all to comply with requirements of this emergency,” the President said.

Besides the special measures in the Level Four lockdown, the President reminded everyone that adherence to the ordinary preventive measures, such as social distancing, wearing of face masks, and consistent hand washing would help Zimbabwe recover.

The President also called upon eligible Zimbabweans to get the free Covid-19 vaccinations.

“Everyone eligible for vaccination must get vaccinated urgently. There is no good reason to delay. Rather, we must all feel the urge and responsibility to protect ourselves, our families, our neighbours, and thus our nation,” he said

Citing the grim global statistics which stood, as of yesterday, above 202,8 million confirmed infections with over 4,29 million fatalities, the President said the passport to a return to normalcy was through vaccination.

“These grim statistics are ascribed to more virulent varieties, most notably the Delta variety which is highly infectious and spreads exceptionally fast. Global studies show a direct link between the rate of spread of Covid-19 pandemic on the one hand and those countries and communities with low vaccination rates on the other.

“Our continent of Africa now has more than 7 million infection cases, with over 177 000 deaths suffered so far. Zimbabwe has recorded over 116 327 cases of infections, with 3 900 of our citizens being lost to the pandemic. To date, we have recorded 88 829 recoveries.”

Trendsetting and outpacing its regional peers, Zimbabwe through its mass vaccination programme has given the first dose to more than 1,86 million people while 1,02 million have had the second dose for the high level of protection.

“We thus continue to lead most countries on the African continent. While these are great milestones, our country however still has a long way to go to reach over 60 percent of the population for herd immunity.

“Several countries, globally and in our region, are beginning to experience the fourth pandemic wave. Quite worrisome to us are trends in countries that are next to us. In almost all of our neighbours, infections have shown an upward trend. We, therefore, need to remain vigilant now and not later, if we are to effectively control the current third wave, and avoid a fourth wave,” he said.

First Lady: Remember the underprivileged. First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa continues to be an example to the nation with her philanthropic work after she donated blankets and groceries to the elderly, widows, widowers and the disabled from Masvingo province over the weekend.

Beneficiaries were all smiles at Maungwa Secondary School in Gutu after receiving rice, cooking oil, soap, sugar and a blanket each from the exemplary First Lady who is on a crusade to inculcate, into the nation, the importance of assisting the underprivileged and vulnerable.

They expressed profound gratitude to Amai Mnangagwa for assuaging their plight that has been worsened by the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.

In a speech read on her behalf by the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira, Amai Mnangagwa exhorted the nation to spare a thought for the underprivileged and vulnerable members of the society. Amai Mnangagwa underscored the important role played by elderly members of the society, especially in preserving the nation’s culture and tradition.

She implored the elderly to continue offering mentorship to the young generation if society was to stem ills like early marriages and unwanted pregnancies.

“I am appealing to you the elderly to continue giving mentorship to our young children today so that we curb some of the societal ills we are seeing today because our young people have abandoned our culture and tradition.

“We now have ills such as unwanted pregnancies and early marriages that are on the rise, but these can be stemmed if we go back to our culture and you as the elderly have an important role to play,” said Amai Mnangagwa.

She challenged Zimbabweans to lend a hand to others especially the underprivileged and vulnerable if everyone is not to be left out.

Amai Mnangagwa reiterated the need for communities to embrace vaccination against Covid-19 saying it was the surest way of winning the war against the pandemic with the country angling to achieve herd immunity.

The First Lady said she had already received her two jabs and urged other Zimbabweans to follow suit and not be dissuaded by purveyors of myths about the vaccine.

“I urge you all to embrace vaccination against Covid-19 so that we can win the war against this virus that has changed the way we live. We need to get vaccinated for our country to achieve herd immunity and contain the spread of the virus and its damaging effects on our day to day lives,” she said.

The First Lady also wanted to establish how well-informed about Covid-19 the elderly were and asked volunteers amongst them to come forward and explain the importance of getting inoculated. The crowd was stunned by how the Covid-19 message has penetrated within all facets of society with the elderly showing deep knowledge about the importance of vaccination.

An elderly woman who stood up to speak about Covid-19 vaccination got commendation and applause from the Minister Chadzamira and other people present respectively, after she correctly said inoculation does not stop one from getting infected with Covid-19, but reduces severity of effects by boosting the immune system.

The granny said wearing of face masks, practicing social distance and sanitising remained important and a must even for those who were vaccinated.

Another granny had also earlier on earned praise by blaming ills such as unwanted pregnancies and early marriages on way ward children who no longer listened to their parents and the elderly after being swayed by pursuit of modern ways of dressing and tasty new foods.

The granny said today’s society was riven by chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension because modern foods were only tasty, but unhealthy compared to traditional foods that she said are healthy and insulate the elderly from most common diseases today.

Earlier on Gutu South National Assembly representative Cde Pupurai Togarepi had in her welcome remarks paid tribute to Amai Mnangagwa for her unflinching commitment to uplift lives of the underprivileged and the vulnerable. “Amai Mnangagwa is showing us the way and I challenge all legislators and other community leaders to draw lessons from what the First Lady has been doing to assist underprivileged and vulnerable members of our society after the advent of the New dispensation.”

The First Lady was also hailed by other legislators at the gathering for spearheading rehabilitation of street children in the country’s towns and cities after making sure they were taken to Chambuta Children’s Home in Chiredzi.

Ministry of Industry and Commerce to promote industrial growth. Officiating at the Women’s Business Leadership Roundtable 2021, Industry and Commerce Minister Sekai Nzenza, said this is being implemented through policy formulation and strategies that enhance industrial growth at a time the country is looking at achieving an upper middle income economy by 2030.

The Government, through the Ministry of Industry and Commerce is creating a conducive environment that facilitates the competitiveness of local industries, production and boost earnings, a senior official has said.

“My Ministry is mandated to facilitate and promote the development of sustainable, innovative, inclusive and globally competitive industrial and commercial enterprises for improved consumer welfare and economic growth.

“The Government is able to do so through formulating and implementing policies and strategies for industrial and commercial growth,’’ she said. She cited the National Development Strategy (NDS1) and the Zimbabwe National Industrialisation Policy as some of the initiatives the Government is implementing to achieve inclusive economic growth.

Dr Nzenza, however, emphasised the need for inclusive growth, where women also take advantage of technological innovation to enhance their role towards economic development of the country, while their businesses also grow. Their participation in all the various sub sectors of the local industry could not be over-emphasised.

“We launched the Zimbabwe National Industrialisation Development Policy, which is premised upon the deliberate decision taken by the Government to open the country for business, modernise, industrialise and promote investment, with the ultimate goal of attaining broad-based economic empowerment, inclusive economic growth and employment creation.

“We have a highly diversified industrial sector consisting of 94 sub-sectors that include food, drink, and tobacco, clothing and textiles, wood and furniture; leather and footwear amongst many others and I am honoured to see women occupying spaces in those areas.

“It is my deepest desire that we find more women occupying these and more spaces in the industry. Women in business are urged to be innovative and make use of modern technologies to push forward industrialization,” said Dr Nzenza.

The premier women’s leadership conference ran under the theme “Women Unlocking New Frontiers” and drew participants from diverse backgrounds discussing the challenges women entrepreneurs face as well as come up with practical solutions.

This came as it was noticed that most women-led enterprises were unable to grow into big corporations despite the region boasting a high rate of women entrepreneurs.

As such, the conference drew high-level speakers to stimulate and inspire the growth of vibrant women executives as well as entrepreneurs. Among the topical issues discussed include insights on venture capital raising, leveraging on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA) making money through investing on the stock exchange and other pertinent issues in the entrepreneurial world.
