MDC-T chairperson, Senator Morgen Komichi, has claimed that the MDC Alliance campaign rally held at Zimbabwe Grounds this Sunday was attended by 62 000 people.

Watch the video below for more:

Komichi said the numbers were proof that the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) is still alive contrary to reports peddled by party detractors.

Following the split of the MDC-T, according to Thokozani Khupe’s claims, and the formation of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa, many concluded that the MDC brand had died a natural death.

The ruling ZANU PF is on record claiming that MDC was dead.

Kanye West furious after North does new TikTok video

Kanye West is pleading with Kim Kardashian to stop “antagonizing” him by allowing their 8-year-old daughter, North, to post videos on TikTok.

The rapper has taken issue once again with his eldest child’s presence on the video-sharing app – this time criticizing the “Emo Girl” TikTok Kardashian and North filmed with Kourtney Kardashian’s daughter, Penelope Disick.

“I told y’all before about this tik tok stuff,” West, 44, captioned an Instagram post on Sunday, referencing the video of the trio lip-syncing to the Machine Gun Kelly song.

“Now my 8-year-old on here singing she fell in love with an emo girl Leftist don’t want fathers to have no say in our childrens [sic] lives,” he continued.

The Yeezy designer also shared a video telling fans he raised the issue with the 41-year-old SKIMS
“I am her father and I know y’all don’t respect fathers and the idea of family [but] I said I’m not allowing my daughter to be used by TikTok, to be used by Disney. I have a say so.

West — who also claimed he didn’t get a say in choosing his children’s school — added, “There’s no such thing as 50/50 custody in society today. It always leans towards the mom.”

The rapper later alleged in a third video that Kim kept North from attending the “Donda 2” release event in Miami last month. I got a flight for all my kids to come from Calabasas. When the plane took off, I got a text from Kim that said, ‘North won’t be on the plane.’

“You see this is the kind of stuff like the Chicago birthday party,” he continued, referencing his 4-year-old daughter’s recent birthday bash that he claimed he wasn’t invited to.

The posts come less than two weeks after the reality star was declared legally single and removed ‘West’ from her social media accounts.

Mozambique cyclone death toll climbs to 17

The death toll from a cyclone that struck Mozambique this week climbed to 12 on Sunday as it moved towards Malawi killing five more after devastating wind and rain lashed the southern African countries. Cyclone Gombe has affected more than 30,000 people, injuring 40, and destroyed more than 3,000 homes since making landfall on Friday.

Powerful winds reaching 170km/h and torrential rainfall hit the northern Nampula province by the Indian Ocean and neighbouring Zambezia province particularly hard.

In the port city of Nacala, houses were teetering on the edge of cliffs facing the ocean and walls had collapsed, an AFP photographer saw. Most thatched roofs were damaged and another made of sheet metal lay on the ground after the wind swept away the bricks, while uprooted trees also littered the ground.

Eight shelters have opened in Nampula, Mozambique’s most populous province which suffered death and destruction when Tropical Storm Ana struck in January. Mozambique was devastated by Cyclone Idai in 2019, the most violent storm to ever hit the country.

“Gombe arrived with more intensity than Idai, but luckily it didn’t have the same impact, in terms of destruction and the fact that it lost strength right at the beginning,” said Cesar Tembe from Mozambique’s national institute for risk management.

Gombe moved towards Malawi, according to Meteo-France, where five deaths were reported later Sunday, authorities said in a statement. In some southern areas of the country, the rain had not stopped for two days.

Around 80 tropical storms or cyclones form above tropical waters around the world each year. The cyclone season in southern Africa lasts from November to April.

Zimbos working in SA sue Cyril Ramaphosa and his cabinet

Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (Zep) holders who work in South Africa have amended their court application suing South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and his cabinet for cancelling their right to stay and work in their neighbouring country.

In their latest court application filed in the High Court of Pretoria on Wednesday this week, the Zep Holders Association (Zepha) cites Home Affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi as the first respondent while his director general Livhuwani Makhode is the second respondent.

Ramaphosa and all his cabinet ministers are in trouble as they are cited as the third and fourth respondents in the lawsuit, respectively.

The Zep holders are challenging the decision and subsequent directives arguing this prejudiced them and the South African economy.

According to court papers filed by the association’s lawyer Simba Chitando, the Zimbabweans had a legitimate expectation to be eligible for the rights of permanent residency.

They further argue that the South African cabinet’s decision was in violation of international law.

In his founding affidavit deposed in support of the latest court application, Darlington Chiuta, one of the Zepha representatives, argued that without mainstream visas, the children of the affected Zimbabweans would be forced to abandon school.

He argued that the children would be forced to start an educational programme they were not accustomed to, interrupting their current studies.

The Zep holders, Chiuta argues, have lived in South Africa lawfully for over a decade and made significant investments.

“This includes physical property (fully paid for and being paid off), they have unemployment insurance, and several other financial investments they would be forced to discontinue should they fail to migrate to other mainstream visas,”reads part of the court documents.

“Practically, they would forfeit (sic) the unemployment (UIF) benefits after they are forced to stop payments. They would be forced to sell property they cannot keep if they are forced to leave the country.”

Chiuta further states that the Zep holders have been denied administrative action accusing the South African government of repeatedly ignoring attempts by the holders to find clarity on their future in the neighbouring country.

“They made decisions that are calculated to prevent them from the lawful path to residency in the country, their decisions are impossible for Zep holders to comply with, some of the decisions are self-contradictory, unreasonable, procedurally unfair, and strikingly irrational,” Chiuta added.

He added that Zimbabweans have been treated poorly by the South African government inviting condemnation from a number of human rights organisations, citing that Zep holders, and their families, consider themselves part of the South African community.

“They know South Africa as their only home, and cannot imagine being uprooted from the country, especially in the ugly manner the respondents intend,” Chiuta said.

“The respondents’ decision took Zep holders by surprise because, despite several attempts to dialogue, no information suggesting the termination of the Zep was provided.”

He said South African institutions were prone to suffering economic prejudice as several financial service providers have products and contractual relationships with various Zep holders, estimated at several billions of rands.

The termination of permits, he argued, could cause damage to the South African economy and its status as a safe investment destination.

“Zep holders provided the South African economy with the skills necessary for its productivity…No business can find South African replacements for Zep holders who have the skills, and experience in the respective positions, to maintain the same level of productivity,” Chiuta wrote in court documents.

Zimbabweans have been working in South Africa as permanent residents under conditions set by the government which, however, limited their rights of residency to more than 10 years.

Many Zep holders expected their rights to residency to be extended as it was before.

Chiuta submitted to the court that granting Zep permanent residency in South Africa would be consistent with internationally recognised principles of migration.

“South Africa is bound by provisions of the Africa Free Trade Agreement.

Granting Zep holders permanent residency indefinitely, which would be consistent with the spirit of free movement of people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zepha this week issued a statement seeking financial assistance to aid their legal battle against the South African government.

“Zepha is requesting financial support from the Zimbabwean business community to assist with what is the biggest case in South African courts at the moment directly affecting thousands of Zimbabweans and indirectly affecting millions.

“The Department of Home Affairs has an unlimited legal budget. To balance the scales any support from the Zimbabwean business community and prominent Zimbabweans would be appreciated,” the association’s management said.

The Oscar-winning actor – who was best known for his roles in “Broadcast News”, “Body Heat” and “The Big Chill” – passed away on Sunday, surrounded by his family. In a statement, his son Will said: “It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar-winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday.

“He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time.” The actor emerged as one of the leading men in Hollywood during the 1980s and he received four Oscar nominations during his time in the movie business. However, William never really embraced his celebrity status and once admitted to craving more privacy in his life.

He said in 1989: “It’s not right that my privacy is invaded to the extent that it is. I’m a very private man, and I have the right to be. I never said that because I was an actor you can have my privacy, you can steal my soul. You can’t.”

The Hollywood star also struggled with drugs and alcohol, and he even some spent time in rehab in a bid to overcome his issues. He said: “I was utterly miserable and, finally, I had been miserable enough, long enough, and I said, ‘I’m finished, I can’t hack it, can’t do it.’”

William’s career slowed down during the 1990s, when he rejected a number of high-profile roles, including the opportunity to star in “Jurassic Park.

Zola 7 denies getting R1 Million from Shauwn Mkhize

Reports recently emerged that Shauwn Mkhize, during her visit with Zola 7, had gifted him R1 Million. But the singer has released a statement to vehemently deny these claims.
City Press recently reported that football mogul and businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize had given Zola 7 one million rand. This came after both of them went on Instagram to share pictures and videos of them having met and hung out at the businesswoman’s home.

Zola 7’s team recently, through his official Instagram account, denied such claims, vehemently, saying he had never received any millions from anybody.

“We request that Media kindly report only truth that is verified to avoid spreading false information. Zola has not received any millions / million from any funder as widely alleged / spread,” the statement read.
In order to not come off as a direct attack to Shauwn, the statement continued to address her directly, “To Mamkhize you are one of a kind and we hope that you are not discouraged by these incorrect reportings, to assist where you can. You have given Zola love, hope and joy and that is a blessing on its own.
The publicity caught Shauwn’s attention, and she sought out Zola so they could have a meeting and hang out. She let him drive her Bentley, which was one of his wishes, and they recorded some videos for social media.

But this too was met with a lot of hate. Mamkhize came under fire for publicizing her assistance to the singer, and some felt like she did it all for clout alone, not out of the desire to help.

It got worse when some screenshots came to light, allegedly proving that those close to the singer had reached out to her for help about a year ago, and she had ignored their pleas, only to show up now to help now that his case had gone viral.

There have been many people defending her, fans and celebrities alike. Somizi Mhlongo said she was damned whether she helped or not, whether she did it publicly or not, so she should focus on her efforts and block out the noise.

Shelling fails to shift last civilians from Kyiv’s ghost suburb

Most of the citizens of Irpin, a once well-to-do commuter suburb of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, have fled the Russian army’s bombardment. The streets are dotted with rubble where Grad missiles have burst open high-rise apartment blocks and modest wood and brick bungalows.

Sometimes the empty streets are so silent that a woodpecker’s tapping in a tall tree sounds more insistent than the distant guns.

But sometimes there is the roar of racks of Grad missiles and volleys of mortar shells being launched nearby.
It’s more than Mykola Pustovit, 69, can take. He bursts into tears as he and his wife start the long walk to find relative safety in Kyiv. They had hoped the frontline would move away from Irpin, “but now, after such bombing, it’s unbearable”.

In fact, the frontline has not shifted for days. By the reckoning of Ukrainian soldiers manning checkpoints in the town, maybe 20-30 percent of the district is in Russian hands. The next suburb, Bucha, a few hundred metres further north, is already in the hands of the invading Russian army and violence is never far away.

As AFP reporters crossed a makeshift wooden bridge into Irpin early on Sunday, Ukrainian forces were shipping the corpses of three of their comrades back out.

Later in the day, a car carrying American journalists came under fire near a Ukrainian checkpoint, killing film-maker Brent Renaud and wounding photographer Juan Arredondo.

Drama at court as wives exchange blows over equal intimacy from hubby

$

COURT clerks were forced to break up a polygamous family’s free for all brawl outside a Buchi local court, after its reconciliation case was dismissed.

The drama unfolded after the court ruled that the two women’s husband, Darious Tembo needed to assert himself and exercise his role as head of his household by presiding over both of his wives grievances.

Junior wife, Estella Ngoma sued first wife Rabecca Tembo for reconciliation following their rift caused by accusations of witchcraft.

Hostilities were renewed after the family exited the court with the principal wife’s brother joining the fray and telling Ngoma not to stress his sister because she was the first wife.

Ngoma fired back with verbal acerbic attacks telling Tembo and her relatives that the fight was not over.

As the two women and their relatives continued to bicker, court clerks were forced to intervene and disperse the feuding family members to instead go home and reconcile from there as the court ordered.

Earlier in court, Ngoma had accused Tembo of using charms on her which spoiled her intimacy sessions with their husband.

Ngoma told the court that Tembo had constantly accused her of using charms on her to an extent of making her bleed whenever she had relations with their husband.

The court heard that in December last year Tembo allegedly sent a voice note to their husband, accusing Ngoma of using charms on her.

She told the court that Ngoma through her charms was the reason she kept bleeding from her private parts whenever she became intimate with their husband.

Ngoma told the court that it was the reason she sued Tembo but later dropped the case after her family suggested that the matter would be resolved within the family.

The court heard that Tembo had not been remorseful of her actions as she continued telling family members that at some point a traditional healer she consulted told her the sufferings in her marriage were as a result of Ngoma’s alleged charms.

“At some point she went as far as proposing for the witchdoctor to be transported to Kitwe so that he can tell the family members the person behind her sufferings ,” she said.

Tembo however, told the court that she used to complain to their husband about her bleeding problem.

The court heard that Tembo had not been happy in her marriage after her husband took a second wife and sometimes beat her for no reason.

She told the court that at one time she discovered charms inside the mattress and complained about it to her husband who did not do anything.

The court later called their husband, Darius, who testified that he was married to both women although he had not been on good terms with his first wife due to the witchcraft accusations by his second wife.

He told the court that at one point he asked Tembo to seek God’s intervention and not traditional healers especially that during the time she wanted a child,bGod blessed her with one.

Buchi senior local court magistrate Beatrice Kabelenga sitting with Magistrate Kambole Nyoni dismissed the case and advised Darius to help settle the differences between the two.

Magistrate Kabelenga said Darius being the head of the house should put rules that his wives should follow because one day they might end up killing themselves.

“This is why people avoid going into a polygamous marriages because it has such consequences of people using charms, we can’t reconcile you two looking at the accusations you are giving each other, let your husband put rules as the head of the house which you should follow,” she said.

More Ukraine-Russia talks scheduled as attack on base kills dozens

$
0
0

Diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine were stepping up on Monday, with Ukrainian and Russian negotiators set to talk again after both sides cited progress, even after Russia attacked a base near the Polish border and fighting raged elsewhere.

A barrage of Russian missiles hit Ukraine’s Yavoriv International Centre for Peacekeeping and Security, a base just 15 miles (25 km) from the Polish border that has previously hosted NATO military instructors, killing 35 people and wounding 134, a Ukrainian official said on Sunday.

Russia’s defence ministry said up to 180 “foreign mercenaries” and a large number of foreign weapons were destroyed. Reuters could not independently verify the casualties reported by either side.
Thousands of people have died since February 24, when Russian President Vladimir Putin launched what he called a special military operation to rid Ukraine of dangerous nationalists and Nazis.

The United States, which had watched Russia’s build-up on Ukraine’s borders with mounting alarm for weeks, says it was a premeditated, unjustified and unlawful “war of choice”.

In a telephone call, U.S. President Joe Biden and France’s Emmanuel Macron underscored their commitment to holding Russia accountable for the invasion, the White House said.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, also discussed diplomatic efforts to stop Russia’s invasion, the State Department said.

Hopes were boosted after Russia and Ukraine gave their most upbeat assessments after weekend negotiations.

“Russia is already beginning to talk constructively,” Ukrainian negotiator Mykhailo Podolyak said in a video online. “I think that we will achieve some results literally in a matter of days.”
A Russian delegate to the talks, Leonid Slutsky, was quoted by the RIA news agency as saying they had made significant progress and it was possible the delegations could soon reach draft agreements.

Neither side said what these would cover. Three rounds of talks between the two sides in Belarus, most recently last Monday, had focused mainly on humanitarian issues.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the countries’ delegations have been speaking daily by video link and a clear aim of his negotiators was to “do everything” to arrange for him to meet Putin. We must hold on. We must fight. And we will win,” Zelenskiy said in a late night video speech.

Global financial markets, battered by fears the conflict could spread and drag in NATO, rallied on hopes for progress in peace talks. Stocks rose while oil prices gave up some of their massive recent gains.

Western nations have sought to isolate Putin by imposing harsh economic sanctions and supplying Ukraine with weapons.

Increasingly isolated, Russia asked China for military equipment after its invasion, sparking concern in the White House that Beijing may undermine Western efforts to help Ukrainian forces defend their country, several U.S. officials said.

U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who is due to meet China’s top diplomat Yang Jiechi in Rome on Monday, warned Beijing it would “absolutely” face consequences if it helped Moscow evade sanctions.

Asked about Russia’s request for military aid, Liu Pengyu, spokesperson for China’s embassy in Washington, said, “I’ve never heard of that.”

He said China found the current situation in Ukraine “disconcerting” and added, “We support and encourage all efforts that are conducive to a peaceful settlement of the crisis.”

Still, violence and bloodshed continued.

Air raid sirens sounded before dawn in many cities and regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa, Ivano-Frankivsk and Cherkasy.

In the capital, authorities said they were stockpiling two weeks’ worth of food for the 2 million people who have not yet fled from Russian forces attempting to encircle the city.

An American journalist was shot and killed by Russian forces in the town of Irpin, northwest of Kyiv, and another journalist was wounded, the regional police chief said.

Britain’s defence ministry said Russian naval forces had established a distant blockade of Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, isolating the country from international maritime trade.

In eastern Ukraine, Russian troops were trying to surround Ukrainian forces as they advance from the port of Mariupol in the south and the second city Kharkiv in the north, it added.

The Russian-controlled eastern city of Donbass and Crimea – which was seized by Russia in 2014 – are now connected by a road controlled by pro-Russian forces, Russia’s RIA news agency quoted Georgy Muradov, the deputy prime minister of the Russian-backed government in Crimea, as saying.

The report could not be independently confirmed. Russia’s invasion has sent more than 2.5 million people fleeing across Ukraine’s borders and trapped hundreds of thousands in besieged cities.

“It is terrifying how violent and inhuman it is,” Olga, a refugee from Kyiv, told Reuters after crossing into Romania. The United Nations says at least 596 civilians have died since the invasion began and the toll is probably considerably higher as it is difficult to confirm deaths in places such as Mariupol.

The city council in Mariupol said 2 187 residents had been killed since the start of the invasion. Reuters was not able to verify that toll. Moscow denies targeting civilians. It blames Ukraine for failed attempts to evacuate civilians from encircled cities, an accusation Ukraine and its Western allies strongly reject.

Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine, has suffered some of the heaviest bombardment and dozens of civilians have been killed. We will stitch up the wounds and the pain of our country and our city,” said Aliev, a 23-year-old musician. “We’re not going anywhere.

Moshe Ndiki Confirms Split from Hubby

$

Moshe Ndiki and Phelo Bala were without a doubt one of our favourite gay celebrity couples in Mzansi. The pair has been married for two years now, and they have made headlines for wrong reasons during their relationship.

Their love story had been messy and at some point police had to intervene. They had previously endured assault accusations and breakups but this time around it seems they have called it quits for good. This is not the first time the famous couple has called it quits. In 2019 they headed for splitsville after Moshe allegedly assaulted Phelo with a candle stand, leaving him with a bleeding gash.

Recently, there have been several hints that they were no longer together. Moshe had not been wearing his wedding ring and not posting Phelo on his social media accounts.

It is no secret that the couple was totally smitten with each other and they were inseparable. It seems Phelo isn’t handling the breakup too well as he has even deactivated his Instagram account- baby boy is too hurt.
On the other hand Moshe has been enjoying life as a singleton and he keeps serving power content on his Instagram account. In an interview with Isolezwe, the TV host confirmed that their marriage has ended.

Moshe Ndiki and Phelo Bala

As a former spouse, he said he would love to remarry again because he loves marriage and love. “As a person who was previously married, I will get married again because I love marriage and love. The problem is not in love or marriage, it’s with people,” he said.

Phelo recently celebrated their 2nd wedding anniversary. At the time Moshe was on vacation in Zanzibar with his friends and it appears their relationship had already taken a dark turn as he did not celebrate the special day with Phelo. Instead, he gave his fans a glimpse of his vacation while Phelo gushed about him on social media.

“Happy 2nd year wedding anniversary, love @moshendiki . Can’t believe we’ve made it this far…I think you don’t know how strong you are to handle someone like me until Moshe tells you so. I’m an extremist and at times a gentleman. Sometimes I’m laughing with you, other times i’m so wrong but you try your best to keep us going. I love you and I mean it! I pray that God keeps you around with me in time for you to see His glory in my life,” he captioned the post.

We do not know what led to their separation this time as in 2019 Moshe was accused of assaulting Phelo. In a statement released via social media in July 2020, Moshe cleared his name following the abuse allegations which were levelled against him. The TV star denied claims that he assaulted Phelo

“These are matters of a private nature and I have been advised because there are court proceedings I cannot reveal anything, however at this present time, I would like to state that I have no way abused Phelo and I have proof to this effect,” reads the statement.

The statement came after Phelo allegedly obtained an interim court order against Moshe. In his court papers, Moshe claimed that over the past few months their relationship had become very toxic with Phelo assaulting him on several occasions. China records more local COVID-19 cases so far this year than in whole of 2021

China has reported more local symptomatic COVID-19 cases so far this year than it recorded in all of 2021, as the highly transmissible Omicron variant triggers outbreaks from Shanghai to Shenzhen.

Mainland China reported 1 337 new domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases with confirmed symptoms on March 13, the National Health Commission (NHC) said on Monday. That brought the total this year to more than 9 000, compared with 8,378 in 2021, according to Reuters calculations.

Officials in Shenzhen, China’s Silicon Valley, have temporarily suspended public transport and urged people to work at home as they carry out city-wide testing this week following a surge in new cases.

Apple suppliers Foxconn and Unimicron Technology Corp both suspended operations in the southern city on Monday. Foxconn, formerly known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, said operations would be suspended until further notice, adding it would deploy backup plants to reduce the disruption to production.

In the northeastern city of Changchun, which is currently under lockdown, Toyota suspended production at its joint venture with China’s FAW Group.

Including cases arriving from outside the mainland, China reported 1 437 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on March 13, the NHC said, compared with 1 938 a day earlier. There were 906 new asymptomatic cases, which China does not classify as confirmed cases, compared with 1,455 a day earlier.

There were no new deaths, leaving the death toll unchanged at 4,636. As of March 13, mainland China had reported 116 902 cases with confirmed symptoms, including both local and imported ones.

A 32-year-old woman is serving 50 years at Chikurubi Female Prison for raping other women.

She, however, claims she didn’t rape even one woman but was merely a witness when her male colleagues, who are criminals, committed these horrific acts.

The mother of three, only identified as Ruth, told H-Metro the collapse of her marriage left her vulnerable and she started associating with notorious criminals.

She didn’t want to reveal her surname since she claimed doing so would expose her family to scrutiny from the public.

The criminals, she claimed, who hooked her into various acts, including robberies and raping of women.

She disclosed this on Thursday, on the sidelines of a Peace Education programme, conducted by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services, at Harare Central Prison Mess.

“I regret my decision to associate with notorious robbers, following the collapse of my marriage,” she said.

“I was emotionally affected by circumstances that led to the collapse of my marriage and decided to go and stay with one of my friends in Chitungwiza.

“We ended up in the arms of notorious robbers, for the love of money, and the robbers took us to various places, where they raped women and committed robberies.

“My involvement with these robbers, and my presence at the scenes where women were raped, was enough evidence before the courts of law for my conviction.

“Handina wandakarepa asi kuwanikwa ndiri pavanhu vaiita izvi ndiko kwandisiya ndavakuchemberera mujeri.

“Mwari ngaandibatsire.

“It killed my inner person, left me with an unforgiving heart, devoid of hope.

“It is that inner trouble, emotions, which is being addressed by this peace education programme and I see it as a healing and beneficial exercise.

“I am being changed from within, there is light and peace of mind within me.”

Ruth’s notorious partner-in-crime was also arrested and is currently serving his sentence as well.

She has since served three years.

Will sanctions really cripple the Russian economy?

To what extent would the economic sanctions against Russia cripple its economy? While most researchers and analysts have said that the stringent sanctions against Russia would deal a “death” blow to its economy, many citizens opine that these measures will have a limited impact on their lives especially since Moscow’s economic engagements with China have only deepened.

Last week, even India and Russia held talks on potential joint projects in the energy sector. The two sides have also been looking at alternative mechanisms for payment and other transactions.
Several countries including Belarus, Myanmar Ivory Coast, Cuba, Venezuela, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iran, Iraq, Liberia, North Korea, Syria, and Zimbabwe are among those in the sanctioned list. But Russia with its size and natural resource deposits cannot be clubbed with other countries.

With 11% of global oil reserves, sanctions against Russia have become a cause for worry for the West. Russia also accounts for 21% of gas production in the world and is one of the largest exporters of wheat.

Russian President Vladimir Putin during a televised discussion last week said that Moscow’s exports of oil and gas are continuing as usual, including the supplies through Ukraine. Russia supplies more than 40% of Europe’s total energy requirements.
Anna Koroleva, a senior Russian journalist at Expert, a local business weekly, told India Narrative that there has been no significant impact yet of the sanctions on the lives of the citizens.

“Banks are working as usual. Now no one is withdrawing anything from ATMs, plastic cards are working, we have our own payment system ’MIR’, which has long been used by all pensioners and those who receive social support,” she said, adding that the initial panic among citizens just after the Russian invasion of Ukraine has not settled.

Crystal Palace 0 – 0 Manchester City

Manchester City missed their chance to go six points clear at the top of the Premier League as they were held by a resilient Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

City dominated proceedings, twice hitting the woodwork, while defender Aymeric Laporte failed to find the net with the goal at his mercy in the first half.

The result means Liverpool can cut City’s lead to one point by beating Arsenal on Wednesday.

In front of a boisterous crowd, Palace frustrated their opponents although they created little themselves going forward.

A point keeps them 11th as they boosted their own hopes of a top-half finish.

Eight weeks ago, Manchester City’s lead at the top of the Premier League was 13 points – although Liverpool, in third at the time, had two games in hand. After this draw in south London, the gap is now four points.

Liverpool have one game in hand over their rivals, with the pair still to play each other at Etihad Stadium in April.

Pep Guardiola’s side were motivated from the off against Palace, with Joao Cancelo striking the post from range after 30 minutes and Laporte firing the rebound off target with the goal at his mercy.

Captain Kevin de Bruyne struck the base of the post midway through the second half, while Riyad Mahrez forced Palace keeper Vicente Guaita into a fine one-handed save on the follow-up.

And Bernardo Silva also failed to convert a fruitful opening late on, poking Jack Grealish’s pass across goal narrowly wide on an off-night for City’s forwards.

It was just the second time City have failed to score in the league this season – the first since they lost 2-0 to Palace in the reverse fixture in October.

The champions, who came in to this match having won 16 of their past 18 games, were made to rue their missed chances, and their players cut frustrated figures at the full-time whistle.

Palace are now unbeaten in their past five matches and go to within one point of 10th-placed Southampton as they continue to push for the top half.

Patrick Vieira’s team were happy to sit back at Selhurst Park, and had a number of half-chances on the break, through Wilfried Zaha and Michael Olise in the first half and Conor Gallagher after the restart.

Coming into this fixture, the hosts had picked up only one point from a possible 12 across their four home league fixtures in 2022.

But they were encouraged by their loud support and rode their luck at times, holding on against a usually ruthless Manchester City side.

Both sides now turn their attention to the FA Cup quarter-finals next Sunday as Palace host Everton and City visit Southampton.

If it is not on our TV screens, our favourite Mzansi actors tend to take it an extra mile to entertain us and that is by making use of their social media platforms to show us their other side, which is if they are not at work. Some make use of Instagram stories or even Twitter and IG feed to show fans and followers their daily errands outside of work.

Though many do it, the recent star to kid around is actress Azwi Rambuda who is popularly known for her role on Muvhango as Mpho Ravele. She posted an image of herself caught by police on what looks like a highway road and all smiley.

She captioned ‘Caught Fleeing Tenda’s mansion! 😭🥺😭😂,’ which obviously meant it wasn’t something serious but rather just a snap with the law officers. Tenda is a character on Muvhango and the followers knew she was just joking.
