Zupco suspends bus services to reduce number of people expected at CCC rally

Public transporter, Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) yesterday stopped local services in Kariba in a move allegedly aimed at reducing the number of people expected to attend Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) rally which was held yesterday at Nyamhunga Stadium.

Zupco services for buses coming to Kariba over the past two days were also affected.

Kariba resident Panashe Kondowe said he had to walk from Mahombekombe high-density suburb to Nyamhunga Stadium for the rally.

On Saturday, soccer fans were also forced to walk for the Dynamos-ZPC Kariba match at the same venue.

“We cannot suffer because some people feared CCC supporters might attend a rally today (yesterday). That is a child mentality,” Kondowe said.

But Zupco Kariba operations manager Paul Karemba dismissed the assertion, citing shortage of fuel as the reason for the suspension of services.

“It is unfortunate that people think evil of us, but the truth is we did not have enough fuel to cover all areas for the past two days. There is nothing I can do because it is a national problem,” Karemba said.

More details on what happened to the woman who was found dead in his brother’s car

Thulisile Dube, who vanished after a night out with friends last Saturday before being found dead in her car on Tuesday was murdered.

The main suspect in her murder, 28-year-old Michael Farai Mutasa, has committed suicide.

Police are holding Mutasa’s girlfriend identified only as Musa, suspected to be the mastermind of the crime. Musa became friends with Dube after they attended the same primary school.

Mutasa’s body was found in North End suburb in an open space adjacent to the Highlanders Club House on Thursday. He hanged himself.

Dube, 38, left home in Old Magwegwe on Saturday afternoon to join up with five female friends.

They started off at Chigumira in Luveve, moved on to Esibayeni in Iminyela before going to Cosmopolitan night club in Ascot for the rest of the night into Sunday morning.

Police have established that Musa observed that Dube had a lot of money and hatched a plan to rob her. She phoned her boyfriend, Mutasa, who joined them at Cosmopolitan.

A police source said: “When they were leaving, Thulisile was the one with a car and had to drop off some of her friends at their homes.

Musa made sure that she and Mutasa would be the last passengers.

“We believe Thulisile was killed in Cowdray Park sometime in the early hours of Sunday and Mutasa drove her body to Emgwanwini where it was found on Tuesday.

“We don’t believe it was Mutasa’s idea to kill her, and his suicide appears to confirm that. It should also be noted that Mutasa was 28-years-old, 10 years junior to Musa and there’s that suspicion that she was overbearing.”

“He told his mother that he would leave the body and car in Emganwini,” the source said.

Inspector Abednico Ncube of Bulawayo police on Friday confirmed Mutasa’s suicide, but would not be drawn over its connection to the Dube murder investigation.

Dube arrived in Zimbabwe on Thursday last week from South Africa where she lives. She was on a week-long visit with her brother, who owns the Honda Fit in which she was found murdered.

She left her parents’ house in Old Magwegwe for the meet-up with friends, intending to sleep at her house in Pelandaba West later that night.

When she did not return home on Sunday morning, police were called leading to a desperate search which ended with the discovery of her body. Her mother told reporters on Thursday that she observed scratch marks on her neck and back.

Mr and Miss Nust duped of their prizes

The reigning Miss and Mr National University of Science and Technology (Nust) Laura Halahala and Orison Gopa have allegedly been duped of their prizes won on the night they were crowned the university queen and king, NewsDay Life & Style has established.

The Miss and Mr Nust pageant was held on May 14.

Sources close to the developments told NewsDay Life & Style that the Nust Student Representative Council (SRC) did not spend a cent on the pageant despite being allocated some money by the university.

“It is sad that about three months after the hosting of Miss Nust, the winners including Mr Nust are yet to receive their prizes,” said the source who preferred to remain anonymous, adding that even the DJs who entertained the crowds at the pageant’s after party were yet to get paid.

“The SRC made money, they charged externals to sell alcohol in the car park and a US$5 entry fees, but still, they are yet to pay the winners. This is pathetic and disappointing.”

The source also claimed that the pageant judges have not been paid.

“Those guys (Nust SRC) commissioned Pardon Khanye of TRUTH Models, a well-known modelling instructor, to put together a team of judges as well as choreograph the pageant. He coached the contestants and set the event in motion, but now he is being blueticked on WhatsApp whenever he asks about the agreed payment,” the source further noted.

“At some point we thought he was the one giving us the run around for our money, but we later discovered that he is also being sent on a wild goose chase, such unprofessionalism dents the image of the whole pageant.”

Miss Nust 2022 finalist Botsi Lyra Noko confirmed to NewsDay Life & Style that she was yet to receive an update from the SRC concerning her prize as the first runner up despite numerous efforts to claim her dues.

Khanye was cagey to comment on the matter.

“Look, I don’t want trouble or to badmouth anyone. I want peace and right now everyone is on my neck demanding what is due to them. I also need to get feedback on a lot of things then I will know what to do from there,” he said.

“I think it is important for people to respect each other and keep to their end of the bargain so that even in future we are all able to continue working together”.

NewsDay Life & Style also understands that the pageant preparations were marred by “tribal” clashes between SRC president Tapfuma Muganiwa and Nust students. The altercations spilled to social media platform, Twitter.

The heated exchange of words emanated from allegations that the pageant organisers had hired artistes from outside Bulawayo province.

Another source in the SRC said the students’ body was no longer united because most of its members were busy trying to impress politicians while neglecting their mandate.

“Muganiwa is leading a fractured SRC, they are not united because of their ambitions. Everyone in Zimbabwe Congress of Student Union is jostling for a position in national politics and the scramble is real,” the source told NewsDay Life & Style, adding that none of the members was paying attention to student needs when a bigger prize is
at stake.

Contacted for comment, Nust SRC Entertainment co-minister Peter Tanya Majengwa referred all questions to his co-minister of entertainment Ashley Mhondera, who was not available by the time of going to print.

Lady X reveals how she almost gave up on music after battling with her mental health

Lady X revealed that she almost permanently hung up the microphone after battling with her mental health.

The singer has been on hiatus from the industry and has previously been vocal about the depression she went through when she discovered “how dark the industry is and the things it represents”.

She has also raised red flags about alleged implicit sexual abuse in the industry, particularly on women. She blamed this alleged abuse for nearly forcing her to quit.

Speaking during an interview at the SA Music Awards on Sunday, Lady X again touched on the topic.

“Everybody knows I took a hiatus. I almost didn’t come back. To come back to music and be nominated, I am like: ‘OK, the love is real. I’m back.’” she said on the red carpet.
“I was focusing on being a better me, growing, and just being a phenomenal woman. I am very happy and excited to say I am there”.

Late Riky Rick’s partner Bianca Naidoo fights for his estate

Late SA hip-hop star, Riky Rick’s baby mama and partner, Bianca Naidoo has taken the Johannesburg Master of the High Court and Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi to court to be recognized as his wife and executor of his estate as the rapper died in February without a will.

A local publication reports that Bianca Naidoo is fighting for her baby daddy rapper Riky Rick’s estate, who reportedly committed suicide in February without a will. It is reported that she’s taken the Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi to court to force them to recognize her as the artist’s wife.

It is believed the rapper had secured endorsements from African Bank, Russian Bear, Kiwi, Vaseline and owned a Mercedes-Benz AMG GTS coupe, a Ferrari, and more before he passed away in February this year.

The award-winning rapper also generated millions of rand in royalties, according to the publication.

According to the mother of two’s application, she and the rapper were “partners in a permanent opposite-s.e.x life partnership, with the same or similar characteristics as a marriage after hitting it off on 26 May 2013.”

“At the time of my acceptance of a relationship with the deceased I lived with my first daughter, who was born out of a previous failed marriage. I expressed to the deceased that unless he was committed to him and having a stable relationship with a future, I would not permit him to meet my daughter. The deceased expressed that he wanted a long-lasting future with me, and we began living together with my daughter as a family during the same year of 2013 at my residential property bought for me by my parents in Bryanston Gauteng.”

Naidoo will be appointed executor and beneficiary of Ricky’s estate if she and her lawyers win the case.

The businesswoman adds that she and the late rapper established a financial interdependence because she performed all the administrative tasks related to the rapper before his death.

“Both I and the deceased were directors of Makgado Agency (Pty) Ltd, which we operated together in all respects.”

Riky reportedly introduced her to his family in May 2013 and she introduced him to hers.

“Our families… soon accepted our relationship as that of a ‘married couple’ and Ricky gifted her a promise ring in 2015.”

Job Sikhala’s bail hearing set for Tuesday

Citizens Coalition for Change legislator Job Sikhala’s bail hearing in the matter in which he is facing charges of obstructing the course of justice has been rolled over to this Tuesday.

Job Sikhala applied for bail saying he has been in remand prison for some time, but the State, led by Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti, opposed the application saying his submissions are not relevant to the records which are before the courts.

Sikhala was arrested alongside another Triple C legislator Godfrey Sithole in June this year on allegations of inciting public violence.

Allegations are that between the 25th of May and the 16th of June this year, Sikhala, fully aware that police were looking for murder suspect Pius Jamba Mukandi for the alleged murder of Moreblessing Ali of Nyatsime, addressed mourners who were gathered for the deceased’s funeral at her homestead.

Sikhala is also accused of uploading videos on YouTube claiming that Ali was kidnapped and murdered by ZANU-PF supporters, thereby jeopardising police investigations.

In his initial appearance, Sikhala was denied bail after the state argued that the accused cannot be trusted with his freedom pending trial as he has the propensity to commit similar offences.

She was even condemned by the Indaba Young Nurses Union, who blamed her for “harassing” stressed patients and approached Prime Minister Stan Matabata to fire her. Nonetheless, she likewise has the help of Contralesa, who demands that what she says precisely mirrors the truth of a country whose wellbeing framework has been hit hard by an inundation of unlawful outsiders looking for help and is earnestly nervous. Businessman Edwin Sodi scammed of R160 000

Mzansi controversial businessman Edwin Sodi, ex-girlfriend Disebo Makatsa and DJ Sumbody were among the victims of an elaborate multimillion-rand travel scam allegedly masterminded by Joburg businessman and travel agent Michael Quintin Jansen van Vuuren.

Edwin Sodi is a popular and wealthy businessman who has been making news for all the wrong reasons lately. From being involved in a corruption scandal, to allegedly breaking people’s marriages, to being a blesser to the top women in the media industry – Edwin Sodi’s name has been dragged through it all.

Jansen van Vuuren is said to have promised to arrange a trip and accommodation to attend the Monaco F1 Grand Prix in 2019. However, the trip never took place.

Edwin Sodi who stands accused of dating married women and allegedly wrecking Idols SA presenter Proverb as well as Minnie Dlamini’s marriages, is said to have lost R160,000 together with one of his ex-girlfriends Disebo Makatsa. DJ Sumbody, real name John Sefoka, lost R195 000. Other high-flying personalities who were defrauded by Jansen van Vuuren include businessman and Rebosis Property Fund boss Sisa Ngebulana, who lost R159,000.

Some victims who fell prey to the scam paid between R200,000 and R300,000 to attend the race.

Jansen van Vuuren allegedly lured a Joburg-based Supercar Club, and unsuspecting victims, into paying him R7.3-million for the racing event. Jansen van Vuuren has since been arrested and charged with 49 counts of fraud.

He first appeared in the Palm Ridge Commercial Crimes Court on December 11 2019 and will appear again this week. The Supercar Club, which is also known as Le Coterie or Veloca Supercar Society opened a case against him at the Douglasdale police station.

According to the charge sheet the Supercar Club used the services of Jansen van Vuuren, who claimed to represent Matrix Concierge, to arrange packages for members who own super cars to attend racing events across the globe.

He allegedly misled Supercar Club boss Ivan Smuts, telling him Matrix Concierge was the subsidiary of a UK company that specializes in upmarket concierge services, which could arrange the travel packages.

However, Smuts claims Jansen van Vuuren later told him that he would no longer perform his obligations through Matrix, but through another company, Living Beyond Concierge.

Jansen van Vuuren then offered Smuts VIP packages for interested Supercar Club members who wanted to attend the Azerbaijan FI Grand Prix between April 26 and 28 2019 in Baku, as well as the Monaco F1 Grand Prix on May 26 that year.

“The packages, which were sold to Le Coterie, were all inclusive of travel, accommodation and paddock pass access to the grands prix,” reads the charge sheet.

About 58 people from the Supercar Club then purchased the packages to attend the Monaco Grand Prix, while 22 paid to attend the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

They paid the money into the Supercar Club account, and Jansen van Vuuren was expected to issue invoices for payment of the expenses and fees for his services.

In December 2018, Jansen van Vuuren informed Smuts that he would perform his obligations in terms of the agreement through Living Beyond. He convinced Smuts to continue to make payments and do away with requiring invoices.

Supercar Club paid more than R7.3-million into the accounts of Matrix and later Living Beyond for flights, accommodation and paddock passes.

Of that amount, Supercar Club transferred R6.7-million into Jansen van Vuuren’s account.

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Dimakatso Sello declined to comment and referred us to the NPA.
