A photo of a tout hanging precariously at the back of a commuter omnibus with a coffin fastened onto the vehicle beside him has sent the internet into a frenzy.

It remains unclear whether the coffin had a corpse, but the vehicle’s registration plate suggests the omnibus is from Zimbabwe.

The picture shared on SA Long Distance Truckers Facebook page has over 1 000 engagements.

While some netizens chose to highlight the comical side of the incident some tried to make sense of the image.

One user Kalay Naidoo commented “OMW what the hell is this. unbelievable”.

RM Ngomane, assuming a corpse was in the coffin wrote “I don’t see anything wrong here he is dead so why not take his last ghost threatening ride”.

With pun intended Kenneth Bailey commented “RIP he was a stand-up guy”.

Another George Mapena chimed in saying reaching the destination and burial are more important, “by hook or crook the coffin has to reach the deceased. What matters is the burial”.

Dawn Els suggested the coffin might be transporting something else “empty one hopes, but nowadays coffins are used for all kinds of things not just corpses”.

South African star, Blood and Water actress Natasha Thahane is in mourning following the death of her dear grandmother Eileen Morakane Thahane.

There is nothing more painful than losing a parent or a grandparent, or any member of the family for that matter. Keeping a family together is the responsibility of grandparents, and when they are gone, it’s difficult for some families to remain tight-knit.

A warrant of arrest has been issued against Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, Makomborero Haruzivishe after he failed to attend court Tuesday.

Haruzuvishe is jointly charged with CCC members Joana Mamombe Cecilia Chimbiri, Stanley Manyenga, and Lovejoy Chitengu in a case they are accused of staging a demo in breach of Covid-19 regulations.

Mamombe and the three other accomplices appeared before magistrate Taurai Manuwere and were remanded to September 16.

“The date is by consent of your worship as it will give us ample time to track the whereabouts of Makomborero, as we are also not aware of his whereabouts, “said his lawyer Alec Muchadehama before an arrest warrant was issued.

The five are accused of having violated Covid-19 regulations, after staging an anti-government protest during lockdown.

They were arrested in Warren park in 2020 and were released on bail.

President Mnangagwa meets Tony Blair

President Mnangagwa yesterday complimented during the plenary session at the Africa Green Revolution Forum 2022 in Rwanda for stressing on the need for agricultural trade, and then in a historic moment, shook hands with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, breaking years of icy relations with the ex-Labour party leader.

Mr Blair had an extremely acrimonious relationship with Zimbabwe during and after the land reform programme and he was one of the foremost campaigners for illegal sanctions, but now seems to recognise the changing times.

Mr Blair, who was British Prime Minister from 1997 to 2007 and took a tougher stance against Zimbabwe after the country embarked on the land reform programme, noted and acknowledged President Mnangagwa’s contribution to the plenary, when he highlighted the importance of intra-African trade in boosting agriculture on the continent.

The President and Mr Blair participated in a plenary session on accelerating food systems in times of crisis.

Soon after Mr Blair made his remarks, he shook hands with President Mnangagwa, something all British leaders at various international forums avoided after the former colonial power and its Western allies imposed crippling sanctions on Zimbabwe.

President Mnangagwa met Mr Blair for the first time in years following bitter disputes between the two countries.

Commentators at the AGRF summit here saw this as a beautiful moment shared by the two statesmen.

In 1997, Mr Blair’s Labour party government pulled out of talks to fund Zimbabwe’s land reforms.

Britain also withdrew development aid and sanctions were imposed on Zimbabwe by the European Union in 2001.

But ever since President Mnangagwa assumed office, he has gone on a re-engagement drive to build closer ties with Western countries.

The President has aggressively promoted the Zimbabwe is Open for Business mantra, attracting massive investment into the country.

The late President Robert Mugabe railed against Mr Blair at various political fora, labelling him “B-Liar” and saying famously at the Earth Summit in Johannesburg in 2002: “Blair, you can keep your England, I shall keep my Zimbabwe”.

Mr Blair, in retrospect, has been reconsidering his stance on Zimbabwe.

“I was actually thinking about Zimbabwe the other day. I think, at certain points, there were misunderstandings, not genuine disagreements. If Zimbabwe were to get its act together it would be an exciting place to be.”

Babes Wodumo whose real name is Bongekile Simelane, and her husband, Mampintsha whose real name is Mandla Maphumulo are serving lots of juices in the second season of their reality show, Uthando Lodumo.

Over the past months, Babes and her mother-in-law, Zama Gumede exuded lots of hatred at each other.

However, the reason behind the hatred and drama has been let out by the two while the whole family heads toward peace and unity.

Explaining why she doesn’t like her mother-in-law, Babes Wodumo said, “I was wrong. I did all that because I was hurt … Not being accepted by my in-laws is painful. Other girls are loved by their mothers-in-law — they embrace them. Mine has never embraced me. Instead, I was greeted with a video riddled with profanities,” she said.

Mampintsha’s mother, Zamanguni said she was disrespected by her son, Mampintsha who got married without her.

“I was really annoyed. I felt disrespected. You’re my only son and I’m your mother. I deserve to be respected.”

“I’m not her friend. I’m her mother-in-law. It would’ve been better if she had sworn at me over the phone instead of on social media. She was out of hand,” Zama added.

Bread price goes up

Bread shortage that has been largely described as artificial and temporary by market players hit the market over the past few days as bakers increased the price of the product.

Some retailers in Harare yesterday hiked the price of bread in local currency from around $790 to about $900.

A visit to some major supermarkets in Harare showed that bread is now costing $895 to $900.

One of the shops In Chitungwiza had no price tag and till operators revealed that it was being sold for $899 from $799.

At a shop in Harare, some bread brands were selling at $895,99 from $785, while others were pegged at $789,99.

At tuckshops, the bread is costing US$1,20. The 20 cents is being rated at between $140 and $200.

In Zimbabwe dollar terms, the bread price translates to between $840 and $900, using the parallel market rate.

Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers president Denford Mutashu said: “The bakers should apprise the nation on why the price of a key basic commodity has gone up at a time when expectations point otherwise.”

Sikhala’s defence lawyer demands arrest of top prosecutors

Lawyer Beatrice Mtethwa who is representing Citizens Coalition for Change(CCC) legislators Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole on Tuesday called for the detention of prosecutor Micheal Reza and Lancelot Mutsokoti after they failed to comply with a court order.

This came after the two ignored an order by magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka compelling them to make available prosecution papers that would enable the defence to prepare for trial.

Sikhala and Sithole are charged with inciting public violence and have been in remand prison for more than 80 days with success bail applications dismissed by the courts.

Mtetwa torched the storm complaining that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has a tendency of undermining court orders without repercussions.

She said at law, when a trial date is given the defence should be given State papers.

“We request that Mr Reza and Mutsokoti be placed in custody until defence papers are provided” she said.

The papers were supposed to have been released on August 13.

The court heard that on the day, Reza disregarded the order in a recorded conversation with the lawyers saying

,He said and I quote, “I don’t have the papers and I can not promise to give you the papers today … when they are ready for collection I will call the prosecutor handling the case to  give them to you as according to the law,” said Mtetwa.

Mtetwa said it was the court’s duty to protect its orders.

“I am advised that Mr Reza has shown the  same attitude in the case of Tendai Biti, contentiously calling a magistrate, stupid” she said.

The magistrate took Mutsokoti to task over the issue, pointing out that the State had confirmed on August 3 that the papers would be ready at the end of the day.

Mutsokoti requested that he be given time to liaise with his superiors so as to answer the question.

“I was advised that the intention was to serve the defence with the full set of state papers, however after further perusal of the document it was noted that two of the witness statements needed some clarification, the docket was then returned to the police,” he said.

Mutsokoti denied that the NPA was in contempt court.

The matter was postponed to September 16  for ruling.

Man jailed for stealing AK-47 riffle belonging to a member of the President office

A 33-year-old man from Gutu has been jailed seven years for breaking into two houses where he stole an assortment of goods that included an AK-47 rifle belonging to a member of the President’s Office.

Obey MObey huru was arrested last year when he was hit by a car while attempting to rob a motorist using the stolen rifle in the Vhembe View suburb.

Although he pleaded not guilty to three charges of unlawful entry and one of attempted robbery when he appeared before Beitbridge Regional Magistrate, Mr Innocent Bepura, he was convicted on the strength of the State evidence.

Prosecuting, Mr Ronald Mugwagwa said on September 7 last year, at around 5pm, Mhuru stole a Samsung J7 smartphone, Cash R1000, and US$70 after breaking into a cottage in Benne Knot Street.

He said the man took advantage of the complainant’s absence and broke the door to gain entry.

The court further heard that on the following day at around 5 pm, the accused went to a house belonging to the President’s Department where the occupants were away.

He then broke open the door to the dining room and subsequently forced open the doors to the other rooms, where he ransacked the house and stole an AK47 rifle (shot butt) and a magazine with 30 rounds.

Both offenses were discovered on September 9 and were reported to the police.

Mhuru was arrested early in October last year, at another house in Hill-Clause in the same suburb after being hit by a car as he attempted to attack one of the occupants using the stolen AK47 rifle.

The rifle was subsequently recovered, loaded with 19 rounds and the accused opened up to investigators during interrogations that he had stolen the firearm from a house at Benne Knot Street.

Mampintsha’s mother wants Babes Wodumo to pay for her forgiveness

Mzansi’s controversial Gqom star Babes Wodumo has opened up about her tumultuous relationship with her mother-in-law Zamanguni Gumede.

Both parties are ready to put aside their differences after Zama dragged her for filth on a social media rant. Zama accused Babes of faking her pregnancy and hurled insults at her family accusing her father of being a crook.

In the first episode of season 2 of the Showmax Original reality series, Babes admitted that she was wrong for dragging her mother-in-law on social media. She said he is hurt after not being accepted well by her in-laws.

I was also wrong. I did all that because I was hurting inside…I’m very heartbroken Not being accepted by my in-laws is painful. Other girls are loved by their mothers-in-law they embrace them. Mine has never embraced me. Instead, I was greeted with a video riddled with profanities,” she said.

Babes accused Zama of abandoning her son Mampintsha when he was only 3 days old. She also addressed the time when she referred to her grandson as spontshi, but Babes said the sponge messes it’s diapers and does all the things a baby does.

“She mustn’t f***k with me, I’ll fetch her. She’s drunk,” says Babes who then phrased her husband Mampintsha who defended her and said she was drunk, she did not mean it. However, Babes said she is drunk from the s***t she was talking.

Babes Wodumo

Zama said she felt disrespected by Babes’ actions “I was really annoyed. I felt disrespected. You’re my only son and I’m your mother. I deserve to be respected.

“I’m not her friend. I’m her mother-in-law. It would’ve been better if she had sworn at me over the phone instead of on social media. She was out of hand.”

She said the only way she would forgive her is for her to pay damages.

“She needs to pay damages, For the profanities, she needs to pay,” she said, Zama said she is not Babe’s friend, but her mother-in-law. Daily Sun recently reported that Babes and her mother-in-law are still at loggerheads.

The publication reported that their fight had escalated to a point where Zama has even allegedly disowned Babes. Besides Zama disliking Babes and disapproving of her, the underlying cause of this is the alleged outstanding Showmax payments owed to Zama and Mampintsha’s sister Pinkie.

The fight got heated after Babes allegedly shared a WhatsApp status declaring how much she hates her mother-in-law. “This is why I hate my mother-in-law. It’s all the sh*t she does and she is full of drama.”

According to the publication, Zama had already caught wind of Babes’ status aimed at her, and she also said she hates her because she allegedly abuses her son.

“Babes, is not wife material.”

“I don’t want to ever see her again mainly because she abuses my son,” she said. We cannot wait for the new season of Uthando Lodumo to learn more about their feud.

Uzalo’s Simphiwe Majozi (Sbu) responds to ex-girlfriend’s claims

South African actor Simphiwe Majozi from Uzalo has come forth to rubbish all the abuse claims levelled against him. This comes after Simphiwe Majozi’s ex-girlfriend and DA ward Councillor Kekeletso Mahlelebe.

Following the abuse allegations by Simphiwe Majozi’s ex-girlfriend of 6 years Kekeletso Mahlelebe. Majozi has since issued a statement where he refutes and rubbishes all the claims levelled by him. In a statement, Majozi claims that he has never laid a hand on Kekeletso Mahlelebe.

“I have learnt of the malicious claims of abuse and cheating by my ex-girlfriend Kekeletso Mahlelebe on Sunday Times edition. I would like to categorically state that I respect women very much and those that has had a chance of being in close proximity with me can attest to that. I have sisters and female colleagues and friends that are female and laying a hand on Kekeletso is one of those things that has never happened ” quoted from Simphiwe Majozi’s statement

These abuse allegations came about when Simphiwe Majozi’s ex-girlfriend Kekeletso Mahlelebe spoke to the City Press, where she was relaying the torment she endured at the hands of Majozi. Kekeletso Mahlelebe accused Simphiwe Majozi of both physical and emotional abuse during the 6 years of dating.

“Keke is a pathological liar, which includes her continuous misrepresentation of her political position in the Democratic Alliance and her overall lifestyle, and now the malicious abuse allegations against me. I am also aware of her foundations which deals that affect women including GBV, it is unfortunate that she has decided to a serious issue affecting many women in our country by creating these false allegations against me” quoted from Simphiwe Majozi’s statement.

Simphiwe Majozi

Kekeletso Mahlelebe, who is also a Democratic Alliance Ward Councillor spilled all the beans to the publication relating to her abuse. After years of bottling up things to herself, Kekeletso Mahlelebe saw it fit to come forth and break her silence about the abuse she recalls from Simphiwe Majozi.

“I risked a lot to make sure that he was okay and that was draining because, at some point, I even tried to commit suicide. When that happened, he saw me taking the pills and he just said I must do it [kill myself]. The following day, he told me that I was being selfish and I was not thinking for my child,” said Kekeletso Mahlalebe

On top of the abuse allegations, Kekeletso Mahlelebe has also raised issues of cheating in the relationship by Simphiwe Majozi. Mahlelebe recounted a time where Simphiwe Majozi has cheated on her while they were still dating, and which has contributed to her emotional abuse.

“I remember one time he had a gig in Pietermaritzburg where he kissed a woman in front of me … another time when we were in KwaMaphumulo, and he did the same thing. When I questioned him, he said he lived to give the fans what they wanted … There is also a girl who went to his house and that child is practically [a part of] his family. They were dating and she is turning 18 this year.” said Kekeletso Mahlelebe

Simphiwe Majozi’s statement has refuted all the claims levelled against him and his version of events supports that what Kekeletso Mahlalebe’s claims are malicious and false.

Napoli 4 – 1 Liverpool

Liverpool was thrashed by Napoli in their first Champions League Group A game on a night to forget in Italy.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were 3-0 down at the half time but it could easily have been more as Alisson saved a penalty and Virgil van Dijk made a goalline block.

Piotr Zielinski put Napoli ahead from the spot in the fifth minute after Victor Osimhen had hit the post.

Andre-Frank Anguissa and Giovanni Simeone extended Napoli’s lead before Zielinski scored again after the break.

It was a terrible opening half from Liverpool as Joe Gomez struggled to deal with Osimhen and was relieved when the Napoli forward trudged off with an injury before half-time.

His replacement, Simeone, needed just three minutes to score on his Champions League debut as Liverpool looked shell-shocked by the home side’s relentless forward approach.

There were chances for the visitors – Van Dijk had a header well saved, Mohamed Salah struck an effort at the goalkeeper and a teasing cross bounced dangerously off Harvey Elliott’s knee at the back post.

But Liverpool was sloppy in possession – even Salah is-controlled a good pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold when well-placed in the box – and their defensive mistakes were punished by an expressive Napoli side.

Any hope of a second-half comeback was over when Zielinski chipped a finish over Alisson from close range to make it 4-0 and though Luis Diaz curled in for an immediate response and came close with a diving header, Liverpool were deservedly beaten.

Deadline-day signing Arthur Melo came on for his debut late in the second half and fellow midfielder Thiago returned from injury to make a brief cameo, but Liverpool will head home having now won just two of their last seven matches in all competitions.

Ajax 4 – 0 Rangers

Rangers’ celebrated Champions League return descended into a debacle as ruthless Ajax ran riot in Amsterdam.

A nightmare first half obliterated hopes of a maiden win in the Dutch capital to mark the end of a 12-year absence from Europe’s top tournament.

Instead, the Europa League runners-up have outclassed thanks to goals from Edson Alvarez, Steven Berghuis, Mohammed Kudus and Steven Bergwijn.

Borna Barisic’s second-half strike was ruled out by VAR to top a grim night.

The defeat is Rangers’ second 4-0 defeat in the space of a week after their Old Firm slump at Celtic Park on Saturday.

On the eve of battle, manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst did not flinch. The Dutchman fielded questions about potentially changing elements of his team after Saturday’s Celtic drubbing. Most notably goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin.

“You keep trusting your players and give them confidence because in the past we have bounced back from heavy defeats and that’s what we have to do tomorrow as well,” he said.

But given that fewer than 24 hours later his team were 3-0 down at the break and his captain had been substituted, Van Bronckhorst could be forgiven for re-evaluating the situation.

Even after making it to the Europa League final, graduating to the Champions League was always going to be a step up. Early on, the Rangers were defensive but compact, tentative but tight enough. Then the floodgates opened on a torrid night.

Just moments after a reticent Ryan Kent ducked out of a great counter-attack opportunity, the ball was in the Rangers net. A corner should have been dealt with. Instead Alvarez made a two-step move to evade a sleeping James Sands and head in.

The waves of red and white attacks kept crashing against an increasingly nervous and sluggish Rangers defence. Devyne Rensch had one effort saved and watched another fly wide, before the second goal arrived just after the half hour.

Berghuis found room on the edge of the Rangers box to shape up a shot. His effort looked as if it was going to be dealt with by the diving McLaughlin, only for a heavy Sands deflection to divert it away from the goalkeeper.

Ajax’s F-Side Ultras in the stands were still in full party mode when Kudus crashed in the third, but it was oh so easy.

His close control and spin caught James Tavernier napping, with the Rangers captain failing to make a convincing job of stopping the Ghanaian galloping forward and skelping a thunderous shot across McLaughlin and in off the upright.

Van Bronckhorst made three substitutes at half-time, including removing Tavernier, but it took until 20 minutes before the end before Rangers mustered much of a reaction.

Kent’s cutback for Barisic opened the defender up to arc a sumptuous strike into the far corner, but after a lengthy VAR check, it was clear Kent was a good few yards offside in the build-up.

But the night would get even worse, Bergwijn pouncing on a ropey Ryan Jack backpass to round McLaughlin and finish.

Eintracht Frankfurt 0 – 3 Sporting Lisbon

He was born in Enfield and left Tottenham without making a Premier League appearance, but Marcus Edwards put his name up in lights on the Champions League stage for Sporting Lisbon.

The 23-year-old English winger set the Portuguese club on their way to victory in Germany against Eintracht Frankfurt – last season’s Europa League winners – with his first goal in the competition.

Edwards then made the second goal for former Wolves loan signing Trincao in a man-of-the-match performance.

Sporting ran out 3-0 winners and play Edwards’ former club Tottenham in Group D in Lisbon next Tuesday (17:45 BST).

As a teenager in 2016, Edwards was compared to Lionel Messi.

“His qualities… it only looks – his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi,” said then Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Despite the comparison, Edwards struggled to make a breakthrough at Spurs.

He made a substitute appearance in a League Cup tie against Gillingham in 2016 but was loaned to Norwich in the Championship in January 2018 for what was supposed to be until the end of the season.

However, he made just one appearance for the Canaries before returning to Spurs for personal reasons.

Edwards moved to Portugal in 2019 to join Vitoria Guimaraes and was signed by Sporting in January where he has established himself as a popular figure with fans.
