A Harare man, Neville Mutsvangwa (36), appeared in court on Friday for allegedly raping a 43-year-old woman at an office in Harare

Mutsvangwa, who is the son of Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association chairman and former Norton legislator Mr Christopher Mutsvangwa, appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Vakayi Chikwekwe charged with two counts of rape and aggravated indecent assault.

He was remanded to August 28 on $50 bail.

The court heard that Mutsvangwa lives in Wyndbee Road, Philadephia, Borrowdale, Harare, and is employed at Anjin Diamonds, Airport Road, also in Harare.

Prosecutor Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa alleged that Mutsvangwa and the complainant used to play casino together at Borrowdale Race Course. It is alleged that on August 8 this year around 6 pm the complainant met Mutsvangwa and they played casino until 4am.

The complainant was offered a lift to town and when they arrived at Harare Sports Club, Mutsvangwa drove to 3 San Fernando along Fifth Street and invited the complainant to his office, the court heard.

It is alleged the complainant asked to use a toilet and indicated she wanted to leave but Mutsvangwa asked her to enter his office where he was allegedly already naked, the court heard.

Mutsvangwa allegedly told her that he had been admiring her for a long time and wanted to have sexual intercourse with her and that when she refused, he allegedly grabbed her neck from behind and forced her to have oral sex with him before forcing her to undress.

Mutsvangwa allegedly raped the woman after putting on a condom and it is alleged that he forced the woman to have oral sex with him again.

He allegedly drove the complainant who was in tears to Joina City in Harare. He offered her $20 and the complainant refused and proceeded to Harare Central Police Station to report the matter.

Mdhara Vachauya: Jah Prayzah album launch in PICTURES

A gigantic venue filled to the brim, atmosphere unbelievable and to top it all, the stage acts were fantastic. It was an electric night at the Harare International Conference Centre as music fans were literally taken on a merrymaking contest.

The event had its highs and lows, but, collectively, it was historic affair. Jah Prayzah nailed it with an exquisite launch of his “Mdhara Vachauya” album last Friday.

His dream to have a capacity crowd at the venue, which he could not convincingly achieve last December with his “Fill Up HICC”concert, came with exceeding abundance that can only be described as an historic overflow.

Coming to HICC after two other album launches of by his “elders” in the industry — Alick Macheso and Leonard Zhakata — at the same venue, Jah Prayzah made a bold statement in as far as his growing popularity and stature is concerned.

Jah-Prayzah

The fête was evidently achieved by the massive marketing campaign that preceded the event.

While the level of the work that Jah Prayzah — a gangly star who grew up as a humble Mukudzei Mukombe in Uzumba — did on “Mdhara Vachauya” can momentarily be reserved as a subject for another day, kudos should go to his management and marketing teams for a job well done.

As goes with any other mega event, especially when results outweigh anticipations, there were some glitches at the album launch, but they could not overshadow the general opulence of the occasion. Indeed, “Mdhara Vachauya” was unveiled in a mammoth manner and other local artistes should be drooling at the young man’s precision when he aims for the best

mdara-achauya-jah-prayzah-briefcase

The 11-track album has songs that include “Hossana”, “Tsotsi”, “Seke”, “Kurumidza” and “In the Ghetto”.

However, despite the excitement that blew up HICC, the event also had its grey areas and The Herald Review dissects the launch highlighting its highs and lows of the night.

Jah Prayzah’s performance

The musician maintained his best choreography with his team and performed his old and new hits in a way that brought the house down. Because most people that are not avid followers of Jah Prayzah’s shows did not know the new songs, old tunes like “Gochi Gochi”, “Eriza” and “Tiise Mawoko” and “Tsviriyo” proved to be still popular.

The team looked stunning it its military regalia that has become part of its identity and the singers, instrumentalists and dancers were up to their tasks.

However, the unexplained absence of popular backing vocalist and ever-smiling dancer Pamela Zulu, widely known as Gonyeti, from the line-up seemed to infuriate some fans that repeatedly shouted her name, apparently inquiring why she was not on stage.

crowd

While The Herald Review has learnt that she did not come because she is protesting against being left out of recent international tours, Jah Prayzah’s failure to diplomatically respond to the fans’ calls left a gap in his act.

The other backing vocalist Fatima Katiji did well to single-handedly fill the gap of the usually double-barrelled female voices, but fans apparently had other reasons to call for Gonyeti.

It has become tradition for Jah Prayzah to incorporate dance groups at his album launches and videos as a way of empowering them.

He temporarily called another dance group on stage for one of his songs, but the dancers did not live up to previous standards set by their predecessors on stage and on set.

The album came with the release of the video for “Watora Mari” that features Tanzanian star Diamond Platinumz

The crowd went ecstatic when the video was unveiled and it is indeed destined to be popular. Master of ceremonies Napoleon “Napster” Nyanhi had to call for a replay because the auditorium went wild with the good video that was shot in South Africa.

Jah Prayzah has set himself a target of one million views in 10 days on YouTube for the video. Unlike last year, when he released “Eriza” video that featured dancer Lady Storm and took several weeks to reach 200 000 views, “Watora Mari” reached 130 000 views in less than two days after its release.

His manager, Keen Mushapaidze, said visibility on social media can create a wider fan base for them.

“Our United States tour gave us a lot of lessons in terms of social media presence. In that regard we have targeted about one million views in 10 days,” he said.

The video has so far received positive response on social media.

However, the actual unveiling of the album was not smooth. It seemed as though Jah Prayzah and his team had no Plan B in case their guest of honour did not pitch up to officially unveil the release as expected.

They ended up seemingly ambushing Oliver Mtukudzi, who had just finished his act, to come back on stage to officially launch “Mdhara Vachauya”.

It was clear that Mtukudzi was not prepared for the assignment and Mushapaidze and Napster had to whisper something to Tuku before he proceeded to unveil the album in a manner that betrayed an impromptu assignment.

However, as the superstar that he is, Mtukudzi made sure the mishap did not disrupt the flow of the programme.

Other performers on the night

Despite being called to launch the album on the shortest of notices, Mtukudzi put up a great act and fans danced and sang along to his music.

He always has a way of living up to his superstar tag even when he just comes in to support a musician he regards as his son.

Because it was Jah Prayzah’s album launch, Mtukudzi could have just made a cameo appearance and left the stage to the man of the day, but he did his best to instil a spirit of celebration into the audience and spiced the night in a big way.

He did his best and endorsed Jah Prayzah saying: “The young man is doing well. Jah aenda nenyika,” much to the delight of the fans.

Yes, Jah Prayzah’s Gonyeti was not in the house, but another Gonyeti in the form of comedian and Bus Stop TV’s Samantha Kureya brought the house down with her cracking jokes.

The two female artistes incidentally share the same moniker for obvious and also unknown reasons.

Musician, Sam Dondo, proved to be a promising star with his stage workas he left fans screaming for more.

He is slowly getting appreciation from music lovers if the response to his act is anything to by. Willom Tight and his son Garry also gave the crowd a good act. The father-son act is getting stronger on stage and it seems they are still to show fans their best capability as a combination.

Apart from various musicians that were not on the line-up, but came to support Jah Prayzah with their presence in the crowd (obviously others came as spies, which is expected in an industry with competition), there were some notable figures from various sectors at the launch.

Several personalities that include Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere, former Big Brother Africa housemate Pokello Nare, Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa, former CAPS United player Ashley Rambanapasi and former Dynamos and Harare City defender David Kutyauripo, radio and television personality Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa, as well as Dynamos president Kenny Mubaiwa were in attendance.

Evan Mawarire is gone but #ThisFlag movement must not go with him

Evan Mawarire is now reportedly camped in the USA, and the once united social media movement is disintegrating and imploding.

I see a bunch of folks hurt and disappointed at Pastor Evan gapping it overseas (despite so many others having done so). I understand the disappointment, but I’m not one of them.

Perhaps we put too much faith in a man who is, after all, only human. For all we have gone through at the hands of the present system, we have not learnt that freedom cannot be delivered by one man, neither should one man embody a liberation movement, even as just the mere face of it.

An old saying says, “habits become character”, but if the habit of making saviors out of ordinary man is now character, then our entire hopes of a free Zimbabwe may soon be up in flames.

Yet, that may not be the only habit we have succumbed to. On the other side of the same coin are Evan’s cheerleaders – The diehard supporters for whom he can do no wrong.

I have much less sympathy for them and their abrasive attitude, making jokes at the expense of people crushed dreams, whether those dreams were realistic in the first place or not.

Dirk-FreyI’m not a fan. It’s the same sort of hero-worship by Zimbabweans that I have condemned elsewhere, and the fact it’s happening on our side won’t stop me from condemning it now

We need to take a long hard look at ourselves, my friends.

As for Mawarire himself… I neither bash him nor adulate him. I like the guy. When he did his first video, the rest of us said to ourselves ‘This is a good thing. This guy’s saying the right things, he’s likeable, he has charisma. He has a gift when it comes to talking. Let’s help him do this, let’s support him.’

And we did.

I had my doubts but I gave him the benefit of one. I watched him step up to the plate, put himself out there and accept the responsibility of what he had stumbled into. I am proud of him and give him due credit for launching ‪#‎ThisFlag

That said, he is only human. This is not an easy road. And even if you are as stubbornly tough as Patson Dzamara, fiercely brave as Stan Zvorwadza or an undefeatable superwoman like Linda Masarira, it takes its toll.

The sleepless nights, the anxiety, the abduction attempts, the fear, the energy, the task, and the fight itself take their toll on you. Physically, mentally, and for those that delve, even spiritually, it wears you down.

Evan made his decision to leave, and it is his decision. Those who second-guess it aren’t in his shoes, whether we agree with it or not. From the position of a man who has been part of the struggle for so long, I respect his decision to make his decision.

Surely, a lot of people are deflated, confused, and the movement has been disrupted in some way. But Mawarire’s decision offers us an opportunity to reflect.

Perhaps this is a learning moment. Perhaps we need to learn not to elevate our leaders to superhero status. Perhaps we shouldn’t give all our eggs to one guy to carry. Perhaps it’s time for this superhero Pastor to find his way back down to earth.

And perhaps it’s past time that others in #ThisFlag movement stepped up to the plate, so that the statement that its ‘not all about Pastor E’ doesn’t stay a slightly sheepish defense.

The Sangoma who helped a Zimbabwean man catch his bed hopping wife by concocting some muthi is an angry man.

A story went viral when a couple where found stuck together during intercourse after the woman’s husband locked her honey pot with muthi as he suspected she was cheating.

Now, the sangoma who sold the muthi – known as mabopha – to the husband is claiming that he was not paid . . . and he’s demanding his money!

Sangoma Msawope Xaba from Honeydew, Joburg said the husband paid him a R3 000 deposit and still owed him another R3 000.

However, the man ran away to Zimbabwe and stopped taking his calls.

“He’s playing hide-and-seek but I don’t worry much about him.

“He will see himself knocking on my door and bringing my money,” he said.

Sangoma

Xaba said he was approached by the man early this year to stop his wife from cheating.

“The man made a three-day trip to Zimbabwe every week and suspected his wife cheated on him while he was away,” he said.

“He came alone at first but then I told him to come back with his wife. The wife ridiculed us, saying she wasn’t cheating and the muthi wouldn’t work on her.

“I told the husband to pretend to go to Zimbabwe so he could catch his wife in the act but he said he couldn’t because he had business to take care of.”

The crying woman contacted Xaba saying she was stuck to her boyfriend. “I told her to get her husband to bring me to her. She was screaming and begging for help,” he said.

SINGLE and searching ladies have found hope of catching their “Mr Right”. A self-styled sex therapist, identified as Amai Nhamba, has become an instant hit with the ladies in Harare. Mai Nhamba sells a variety of love portions that are meant to attract men! But she prefers to conduct her business discreetly.

Amai Nhamba (left) sells love portions and she claims that one of her concoctions, called “Come Come”, can lure any man. However she spotted her in the middle of a transaction outside Ebony Hair Salon located along Julius Nyerere Way. She was selling the herbs to some sleek ladies and they were doing it on the “down low”. She is said to be a frequent visitor at the salon where she targets the women who will be having their hair dos.

Ama-NhambaAmong her cocktail of love portions is one called “Come Come”, and it is believed to lure any man. In an interview with one client who refused to reveal her name, once you use the ‘Come Come’ all men will not resist you. “All you have to do is give the guy a hug and he would want to hug you forever.

It has worked for me and my man is head over heels. “He tried to play hard to get at first pretending to be faithful to his wife but once I used the ‘Come Come’, he is now mine forever,” bragged the young lady who was on her way out from Ebony Hair Salon where she was having a manicure.

H-Metro phoned Amai Nhamba posing as prospective customers and she gave H-Metro the price list and she spoke highly on the effectiveness of her herbs. She said that the “Come Come” was going for US$5, “Chinamira” and the rest of other herbs were pegged at US$3.

“With the ‘Come Come’, you will never go wrong. “Come to the Canaan Western Rank and I will sell you the stuff right now,” said Amai Nhamba.  Her clientele is believed to include the top bracket members of the society. Amai Nhamba also sells some herbs which “recycles” virgins.

“She also sells this herb which tightens the vagina and you will be a virgin once again,” revealed a client. She seems to have defied science because scientifically, the hymen cannot be mended once it’s broken! Amai Nhamba is certainly what the doctor ordered for the women out there.

Cops blamed for Greyhound driver death

THE family of a driver who on Friday was crushed to death by a Bulawayo-bound Greyhound bus have alleged off-duty police officers who mounted an illegal roadblock caused his death. The five police offficers fed after realising Mr Bongani Mpofu (44) had been mortally wounded when the bus went down on him as he attended to a tyre puncture at Beitbridge Border Post. Officials said the tragedy occurred at around 1PM when the officers were searching the bus.

The driver was trapped as he attempted to put a second vehicle jack, when the first one gave in. Border authorities said the driver was later pulled out by some travellers and taken to Beitbridge District Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon admission. The Chronicle yesterday caught up with Mpofu’s brothers, Thembelani and Mbambeleli, who are angry at the circumstances that led to the death of their sibling.

greyhound“We’ve established that the bus had gone through immigration procedures and had exited the border when a group of men in plain clothes materialised from the blue and ordered the bus to pull over,” said Mbambeleli. “We’re told that my brother told them that company policy didn’t allow them to park in such small spaces and they threatened to arrest him. They demanded to search the bus. My brother and his assistant first protested saying Zimra officials had already searched the bus. Later, they said they could allow the cops to search the vehicle only if a larger space was available for them to properly park the bus. The police officers ordered them to head back to the border.

Mbambeleli said the cops ordered Mpofu to park the bus near a truck stop within the border perimeter fence. “The police entered the bus and searched it, purportedly looking for smuggled goods which they failed to find. It was during the search that my brother noticed that the bus had a puncture because it had been parked on top of protruding metals,” he said. After failing to find the suspected smuggled goods, said Thembelani, the oǁcers switched goalposts and said they must have picked the wrong bus.

It was at that point, Thembelani added, that Bongani went under the bus to attend to the puncture and was crushed. “The police officers immediately ǁed the scene. They didn’t even attempt to remove him from under the bus,” he said. He said officials at the border informed the family the cops were genuine officers but were allegedly off-duty when they carried out the search.

The two brothers said if what they said was an illegal roadblock had not been mounted, their brother would still be alive. Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele said he was not aware of the circumstances surrounding Mpofu’s death. “We haven’t received communication on that. We don’t have those details. I’d urge the company and the relatives to approach the police regarding this matter so we can investigate,” he said.

A Greyhound official yesterday said the company was exploring ways to pursue the case with the Greyhound official yesterday said the company was exploring ways to pursue the case with the police, without causing friction. Mpofu is survived by wife, Nomsa and children Bongile (10), Buyisile (6) and Buzile (3). It is anticipated that he will be buried tomorrow. His family says it is poorer without him as he was its breadwinner, role model and father figure. Mpofu’s close friend Admire Sibanda said: “He was a hardworking, dedicated family man, a good leader and advisor to all that crossed his path. It is both surprising and sad that such a great man is no more.”

Former Villa star Dalian Atkinson dies after being tasered by police

Former Aston Villa footballer Dalian Atkinson has died after he was shot by a police stun gun in Shropshire early on Monday morning.

Officers were called to a property, believed to be his elderly father’s house, in Meadow Close, Telford, after concerns “for the safety of an individual” were raised.

West Mercia Police said the 48-year-old man was given medical treatment after being hit by Taser, but died around 90 minutes later.

Witness Paula Quinn said she heard shouting outside and when she looked out of the window she saw two police officers and a local resident having “loud discussions”.

She told Sky News the man was “stumbling” towards the police officers.

She said: “The police officer shouted something about deploying the Taser but because the gentleman was still stumbling forwards he deployed the Taser anyway.

“Then the gentleman just dropped like a lead balloon and landed straight on the floor.”

Ms Quinn added: “It all went quiet for seconds. I can only assume the man was now subdued. Numerous police vehicles and paramedics arrived. I heard the paramedics working on him and then they took him away in the ambulance.”

Mr Atkinson was thought to have been visiting his father, believed to be aged in his 80s, who lives in the cul-de-sac.

Neighbours said the retired football star, who drives a Porsche, was well-known among people in the street, making frequent visits there.

An unnamed neighbour said: “I had known him since he was a little boy, he was a famous footballer at one time. He was friendly, he had no trouble that I know of.”

An ambulance spokesman said while the man was being taken to Princess Royal Hospital his condition deteriorated and he suffered a cardiac arrest.

Former-Villa-star-Dalian-Atkinson

He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the medical facility.

Atkinson’s wonder goal against Wimbledon during a 3-2 win in the Premiership in October 1992 was named Match of the Day’s goal of the season.

In 1994, the striker scored at Wembley as Villa beat Manchester United to lift the League Cup.

Atkinson started his career at Ipswich and then played for Sheffield Wednesday and Spanish side Real Sociedad before moving to Villa.

The police use of Tasers is intended as a non-lethal weapon.

The incident has now been referred to police watchdog the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

In a statement, police said: “West Mercia Police can confirm that officers responded to a report for the concern for the safety of an individual at approximately 1.30am this morning at an address in Telford.

“Upon arrival Taser was deployed and a 48-year-old man, who subsequently received medical attention, was pronounced dead at approximately 3am.”

An IPCC spokeswoman said: “IPCC investigators are at the scene gathering the available information and are attending the post incident procedures to supervise the recovery of initial evidence.

“The IPCC is conducting a full and thorough investigation into all of the circumstances surrounding his death including the use of force.”

There were 10,329 uses of Tasers by police forces in England and Wales in 2015 – a 2% increase compared with 2014.

Some 19% (1,921) were discharges – down 3% from the previous year

Police in Hwange on Friday dropped a case against a 28 year-old Praise Moyo who had been summoned to appear in court for allegedly sending a message on WhatsApp protesting against the failure by traditional leaders to compel authorities at Hwange Colliery Company (HCC) to pay its workers.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers in Hwange had summoned and charged Moyo to stand trial for allegedly inciting public violence.

According to Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, police claimed that Moyo allegedly sent messages via WhatsApp groups, questioning why traditional leaders such as chiefs in Hwange were not engaging and persuading listed coal miner, HCC, to pay its employees some outstanding wages and salaries.

But Moyo, who had secured legal representation of human rights lawyer Lizwe Jamela was set free on Friday.

SCHOOLS ORDERED TO CANCEL FORM ONE ENTRANCE TESTS

SECONDARY schools have been ordered to cancel entrance tests for the 2017 Form One pupils and wait for the Grade Seven public examination results to start enrolments.

The directive comes at a time when secondary schools in most parts of the country have started conducting Form One entrance tests as they prepare for next year. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs Sylvia UteteMasango, yesterday said it was illegal for schools to conduct entrance tests before the Grade Seven final examination results are out. “It’s government policy that schools should go by the Grade Seven public examination results for them to offer Form One places. Selection should be done on the basis of these results not the entrance tests that they’re conducting at their schools.

MASANGO

“All the schools that have conducted or are planning to conduct entrance tests are going against government policy. They must cancel the entrance tests and wait for the Grade Seven results. We’ll follow up through our structures and make sure that our provincial education directors monitor their schools,” said Mrs UteteMasango.

On Sunday, Minda High School in Maphisa, Matabeleland South invited pupils for an entrance test on August 27.According to the advertisement, pupils are expected to produce Grade Six end of year results, Grade Seven midyear results and certified copies of birth certificates. The entrance tests for the school will be conducted at its premises in Maphisa as well as at Bulawayo’s St Patricks Primary School in Makokoba suburb and at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Gwanda.

Last week parents seeking Form One places at John Tallach High School in Matabeleland North condemned the school’s decision to charge them $5 each for an entrance test. The school, which had the best 2015 Ordinary Level public examination results in Matabeleland North province, conducted Form One entrance tests for 2017 at Thembiso Primary School in Bulawayo’s Luveve suburb. The school invited more than 1 000 pupils, yet it can only cater for less than 150 pupils at Form One.

LONDON COLLAPSE HAUNTS GAFA ‘WINKY D

Winky D is still haunted by the incident in London when he collapsed on stage after a fan sprayed him with an unknown substance

This became clear in Bulawayo when the Ninja President fled from fans after performing at the launch of Jah Prayzah’s new album. Fans angling to shake the hand or take selfies with the star were left disappointed when he gave them a cold shoulder. The star’s entourage would not let any fan touch him, shrugging off the hands of those that got too close for comfort.

winky DAccording to Winky D’s manager, Jonathan Banda, the star is apprehensive about flashing a smile for the camera or engaging fans because he has had bad experiences with rowdy fans in the past.“There are a lot of factors involved in terms of allowing his interaction with fans or not. On Saturday, for example, he was quite tired and he needed to go and rest because we had many shows on the trot in the last few weeks.

“Security is also quite tricky and one time in the UK a fan sprayed him with an unknown substance and he collapsed. All those are things to factor in,” he said

South African woman jailed for kidnapping newborn Zephany Nurse 19 years ago

A South African court has jailed a woman for 10 years for kidnapping a baby from her hospital bed 19 years ago and raising her as her own

The 51-year-old woman was arrested in 2015 after people noticed an uncanny resemblance between the girl, Zephany Nurse, and another girl at school.

DNA tests carried out by police then proved that the two girls were sisters.

Judge John Hlophe told the defendant she had “betrayed” Zephany by her actions.

The kidnapped girl’s biological parents, Celeste and Morne Nurse, called her Zephany, but the name she grew up with has not been revealed to protect her identity.

The convicted woman has also not been named for similar reasons.

zephany-nurse

Local media have previously reported that Zephany does not wish to have a relationship with her biological parents and considers the woman who kidnapped her as her mother.

She has decided to continue living with her abductor’s husband, whom she grew up believing to be her father.

Outside the court, Zephany’s biological grandmother Marilyn Francis said she was not happy with the length of the sentence, but hoped that the family would now have a chance to bond and form a relationship with Zephany.

The judge told the accused she had had “all the time in the world” to return the child but had chosen not to.

Annual local media coverage of the parents’ birthday celebrations for their missing baby daughter meant that there was no way the defendant could not have known they were still looking for her, he said.

He also said her decision to plead not guilty and portray herself as a victim in the affair counted against her.

Minister admits imports ban law affecting industry

Industry and Commerce minister, Joey Bimha, has hinted that Statutory Instrument 64 of 2016 has had “unintended effects” on some parts of the economy.

The instrument was promulgated recently to ban the importation of 42 commodities from South Africa, among them building materials, creamers and body creams.

Addressing mainly Zanu PF supporters to mark Heroes Day recently, President Robert Mugabe defended the ban, insisting that it would protect local companies from foreign competition.

Mike-Bimha

Bimha, while speaking at a Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) breakfast meeting on Monday, invited players in commerce to debate the negative effects of the imports ban law.

“There could be players who are also affected negatively where you actually see a loss of jobs as a result of that policy (SI 64/16), which we call the unintended consequences of that measure,” said Bimha.

“However, what is important is to highlight those unintended consequences for us to do something about it,” he added.

Hundreds of Zimbabwean informal traders joined hands with their South African counterparts last month to picket at the Beitbridge and Musina border posts and calling for the reversal of the imports ban.

Thousands of Zimbabweans depend on the importation of a variety of goods from neighbouring counties for resale in Zimbabwe,  to counter the negative effects of unemployment that is now estimated at more than 90 percent

Mujuru and ZimPF heavies still on US sanctions list

The United States government is keeping Joice Mujuru and her lieutenants on its targeted sanctions list even though they broke away from Zanu PF more than a year ago and moved into opposition politics.

The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) website shows that Mujuru, Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo, Sylvester Nguni, Bright Matonga and Munacho Mutezo are still on the list that restricts them from travelling to the country and engaging in business with American companies.

The individuals were victims of a purge that Zanu PF started in 2014, accusing them of rallying behind Mujuru, former Zanu PF and national deputy to Mugabe, in a plot to topple the long ruling president.

They now occupy top interim positions in the newly formed Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) movement that has been hailed as a decisive political player ahead of the 2018 general elections.

Mujuru, whose party is set for its maiden congress soon, was last weekend seen holding hands with the leader of the main opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) in the Midlands capital, Gweru, during a demonstration.

The ZimPF leader who had known no other party but Zanu PF since her teenage years fighting in a war against colonialism in the 1970s has vowed to bring back democracy to Zimbabwe after 36 years of Mugabe’s rule.

Joice-Mujuru-Zimbabwe-People-First

Zanu PF propaganda hawks have repeatedly accused Mujuru of attending secret meetings with US officials during her tenure as vice president.

The US targeted sanctions were introduced in 2003 “as a result of the actions and policies of certain members of the Government of Zimbabwe and other persons undermining democratic institutions and processes in Zimbabwe”, according to the US embassy in Harare.

In its present form, the restrictive sanctions list applies to 98 individuals and 68 institutions comprising mostly farms, and companies owned by the individuals or institutions linked to Zanu PF.

Other individuals who were expelled from Zanu PF for allegedly siding with Mujuru but have not joined ZimPF remain on the list.

These include former cabinet ministers, Olivia Muchena, Webster Shamu and Francis Nhema and Ray Kaukonde, an ex-Zanu PF provincial chairperson.

In contrast, the European Union (EU) which resumed direct engagement with the Mugabe government in late 2014 has whittled down individuals on its restrictive measures list to the president and his wife only, having removed hundreds of his lieutenants and kept a few on the suspended roster.

The US list still contains individuals who have passed on, such as Sabina, Mugabe’s sister, and Charles Utete, who passed away recently.

Former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor, Gideon Gono, and ex-wife of defence forces commanders, Jocelyne Mauchaza, also remain on the list

Married Police officer caught in compromising position with cousin

A policewoman’s alleged incestuous relationship with her cousin has ruined her six-year marriage. Loice Nyambayo’s marriage to Walter Tendai Daringwa, 33, has collapsed after she was caught pants down with her cousin who was referred to as tsano Ngoni. Loice and Ngoni are expected to appear at Chitungwiza magistrate court today. It is alleged that Loice was caught red-handed having se_x with Ngoni and she even grabbed her husband’s hands so as to give Ngoni room to escape.

“There was a scuffle between Loice and her husband and she went on to threaten that if he revealed the incident she would kill their two kids and then commit suicide. The two then agreed that no one was to reveal the secret since the husband was concerned about his children’s well being,” he said.

cheating-manAdded the mole: “Darangwa started to notice some changes in his wife’s behaviour and would notice small things that suggest she had been intimate with someone else and these included cloths and stench”. One day Darangwa is said to have returned from work early and found the two in a compromising position.

Darangwa greeted the two and went on straight to his bedroom. Loice followed in the bedroom and started apologizing for what she had done,” he said. Loice is alleged to have continued with her behaviour that one day she scolded her husband in the presence of his sister saying she would never stop having se_x with Ngoni. “Wakajaidzwa namai vako unoda kuitirwa nani, enda pastove uone yekutama inini handiite izvozvo. Inini ndicharamba ndichisvi*a na Tsano Ngoni kusvika wafa hapana chawati waona,” she said.

A family gathering was called for the two sets of families so that they could discuss the matter but the talks collapsed as the in-laws exchanged harsh words. A close relative said things got out of hand when Ngoni was allowed to stay with the two in January this year while looking for a job.

“Ngoni came to stay with the two and he had nothing but things started to change as he started buying new things while he was not working”. Darangwa on the other hand could not shed much light on the issue saying his profession does not allow him to speak to the press. Loice could not entertain this publication when asked for comment, choosing to hang the phone. Several text WhatsApp messages were sent to her mobile and were read but she never responded.

This is a picture of what looks like former Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) news anchor Dave Emberton after he was arrested by police for allegedly trying to steal bacon at a supermarket in Harare.

Unconfirmed reports say Emberton was caught at Letombo Spar in the capital Harare.

Emberton is regarded as one of the best Zimbabwean newsreaders who endeared himself to many with his smooth delivery of the 8 O clock news on the ZBC TV.

He has also worked as a manager for DSTV in Zimbabwe until last year when he left. There are suggestions he may be suffering from mental illness.

Information minister warns journalists against negative coverage of Mugabe

Christopher Mushohwe, the Information minister, on Tuesday warned journalists against “malicious” coverage of President Robert Mugabe and his family as public attention increasingly turns on the 92 year old leader whose health is reportedly failing due to advanced age.

He was addressing journalists in Harare.

Mushohwe did not, however, explain what he meant by malicious coverage of the Mugabe family, but there are fears that his warning could signal a crackdown on the media ahead of the 2018 general elections.

Zimbabwean citizens have been arrested and taken to court on charges of insulting the president but legal experts insist that the law being used, the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, undermines freedom of expression.

Chris-Mushohwe

During the Tuesday media briefing, Mushohwe issued a threat against social media activists, particularly those residing outside the country, accusing them of terrorism.

Police recently indicated that they were keen to question three Zimbabwe exiles based in South Africa and Australia over alleged use of social media platforms to “undermine the authority” of the government.

“Government has made it abundantly clear it is closely watching the activities of these subversive elements, who in the majority of cases are fronted by political parties and movements operating both inside and outside the country,” said Mushohwe.

“Let those countries that have always pretended to fight terrorism now explain to us how they are aiding and abetting these terrorists squatting in cyberspace with their self-proclaimed public stances,” Mushohwe said.

Civil activists in July widely used social media platforms like Whatsapp and Facebook to post videos and messages in anti-government protests that seemingly rattled President Robert Mugabe and his administration.

Comic Pastor dumps Bus Stop TV over Anne Kansiime show

Comedian Prosper Ngomashi, widely known as Comic Pastor, has left Bus Stop TV in circumstances that have been linked to Anne Kansiime’s show in Harare.

The Comic Pastor worked with producer and co-founder Lucky Aaron and two other comedians Sharon Chideu (Maggie) and Samantha Kureya (Gonyeti) in the team that is well known for its comic skits on social media.

Ngomashi reportedly announced his decision to leave the group after failing to perform at the recent comedy night at Harare International Conference Centre that was graced by Ugandan Anne Kansiime.

Sources said he clandestinely arranged to perform alone at Kansiime show when he was supposed to inform the other Bus Stop TV members about the contract and there was a conflict within the group.

Bus Stop TV is said to have had another arrangement with show organisers which saw Gonyeti going on stage while Ngomashi was elbowed out.

“He had separate agreement with one of the promoters but it failed to go according to the plan after the other Bus Stop TV members complained and he failed to perform while Gonyeti was given a slot. He felt betrayed and left the group,” said the source.

However Ngomashi said he had not left because of any conflict, but had just decided to take a break from doing skits.

“We had a very cordial working relationship as a team at Bus Stop, but it’s just that I have decided to take a break from skits. I am going to concentrate on stand-up comedy,” he said.

He said Bus Stop TV is an institution that can move forward without his contribution.

bustop-tv

They can go ahead without my contribution because they are an institution. We are comedians and we need to be innovative and come up with new appealing ideas,” he said.

Aaron confirmed Ngomashi’s exit saying they do not know why he left the group.

“I just heard that he had separate arrangements with the promoter (of Kansiime show) to perform at the show but he failed, so we are not sure what then happened. He just communicated to me that he was no longer interested in Bus Stop TV,” he said.

He said they were still to get his replacement.

“It is now a week after his departure and we are still looking for a replacement.”

Ngomashi joined the crew following the exit of comic duo Bhutisi and Khedha from the team that was then known as PO Box.

The two had a conflict with Aaron forcing them to start their own project named PO Box Reloaded.

Ngomashi rose to fame with his popular skit “Shamhu” that took a swipe at rowdy Zimdancehall musicians and his works charmed a number of individuals and organisations that contracted him for various promotions.

At Bus Stop TV, he mainly played the role of a greedy and mischievous pastor with Maggie and Gonyeti as his wives.

Ngomashi’s absence from the team was conspicuous at Jah Prayzah’s album launch at HICC last weekend where Bus Stop TV had a slot that featured Gonyeti, Maggie and newcomer Ben 10 who joined the crew a few weeks ago
