Arsenal win 3 – 0 in their season opener against Fulham. Former Chelsea winger Willian had a hand in all three goals and Gabriel – a £23m signing from Lille – scored in his first game in English football. Arsenal were highly impressive, while Fulham caused themselves too many problems at the back.

Debutants Gabriel and Willian impressed as Arsenal blew away promoted Fulham in the opening game of the Premier League season.

Both sides have played and won at Wembley – twice for the Gunners – in the 48 days since the last Premier League season finished. Alexandre Lacazette scored the opener from close range after Willian’s effort was saved.

Centre-back Gabriel then scored from Willian’s corner with his shoulder. Willian, who also hit a post from a free-kick, picked out Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng with a perfect cross-field ball and the captain curled home Arsenal’s third.

Fulham created few chances, with last season’s top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic coming on with only 27 minutes to go and forcing Bernd Leno into a save.

MDC-T funeral fracas as Councillor is blocked to give a speech

MDC-T funeral fracas as Councillor is blocked to give a speech. Clr Titora, who was supposed to give her remarks at the funeral wake of one of the residents in her ward, was barred from doing so by MDC-T youth chairman Mr Nhamo Zvenyika who claimed that she was no longer a councillor.

Kwekwe’s Ward 2 Councillor Future Titora was on Tuesday manhandled by rowdy youths belonging to the MDC-Alliance for allegedly dumping the party to join the Dr Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T.

Mr Zvenyika together with two other youths dragged the councillor off the podium when she was about to deliver her speech at Mbizo 10 Cemetery and pushed her out of the cemetery saying she was no longer fit to represent them as she had been “recalled”.

Contacted for comment, Clr Titora confirmed the incident. “I was attending the funeral of Innocent Mudondo and I was supposed to give a speech in my capacity as a councillor. When I rose to give my speech, Zvevamwe and two other youths grabbed me and told me to sit down as I was not councillor anymore. Zvevamwe went on to give the speech in my place,” she said.

Clr Titora said she was told to leave the funeral wake or face more unspecified consequences. She then filed a report at Mbizo Police Station. “I am still a councillor and I am supposed to carry out my duties without any hindrance. They should wait for their time to be elected so that they can do the job,” she said.

Meanwhile, Clr Titora pledged her alliance to Dr Khuphe. “I filed my papers under MDC-T and won under the same ticket. I will not be changed by anyone. I am in the right direction and I cannot be forced to be part of a mediocre party like MDC-A which was formed in a move to conquer Zanu-PF during the elections. Even if they beat me up, nothing will change,” she said.

This comes as the opposition party is marred by massive cracks with power struggles tacking centre stage. The situation was worsened by a Supreme Court ruling that endorsed Khupe as the legitimate leader of the party leaving Nelson Chamisa with egg in the face.

Scores of legislators have since been recalled from Parliament following the ruling and the same fate seem to be coming down to councillors. In Kwekwe, three councillors are said to have dumped the Chamisa-led MDC-A to join the Khupe led MDC-T.

Besides Clr Titora, other councillors believed to have crossed the floor are Joshua Tinago and Mercy Ranga.

Invictus: There is more oil and gas in Zim

Invictus: There is more oil and gas in Zim. The discovery of commercially viable oil and gas deposits in the Muzarabani area by Invictus could raise the potential of more oil and gas in the other basins, experts say.  Invictus plans to sink two test wells by September next year after further geophysics and exploratory work set to begin next month.

Zimbabwe may be sitting on more oil and gas deposits than initially projected. The country has five other basins capable of hosting hydrocarbons such as oil and gas, in addition to the Zambezi Valley basin, which is being prospected by Australia Stock Exchange-listed Invictus Energy.

Mr Paul Chimbodza of Geo Associates, Invictus’ partner in the Muzarabani project, told The Sunday Mail that the five basins warrant further exploratory work to ascertain the availability of oil and gas.

“Zimbabwe has six sedimentary basins that have the right geological address that warrant exploration for hydrocarbons, being Zambezi Basin, Kariba Basin, Tuli Basin, Mozambique Basin, Okavango basin and Nama Kalahari basin,” he said.

“Some of these have known oil seeps that warrant further detailed exploration. Geo Associates is focused on just a small part of the Zambezi Basin, and there is room for other oil and gas explorers in the rest of these aforesaid basins.”

Speaking at a technical briefing for journalists in Harare last week, Mr Chimbodza said:  “The traditional ceremony will mark the commencement of work on the ground. By October we will have boots on the ground to do the work relating to the selection of the sites where the test well will be sunk. We will have two test wells in 2021.”

Invictus has begun mobilising a drilling rig, which is estimated to cost over US$20 million. The energy firm is considering the option of hiring rigs that are already in the region. Currently, there is one rig in Namibia and two in Mozambique.

Drilling is expected to take up to 30 days. The company has sunk US$3,5 million on geotechnical studies, seismic reprocessing, seismic interpretation and the recent acquisition of an investors licence from the Zimbabwe Development Agency.

Speaking at the same event, Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando said siting of the drilling sites was a meticulous and expensive exercise. “The drilling for an oil test well is expensive.

“We are looking at around US$20 million just to check the existence of the oil and confirm beyond doubt. We are talking of an area which is around 100 000 hectares,” said Minister Chitando.

“So, what is critical is to ensure that the siting of that well is on point. There is very little room for error, hence the massive work taking place before the drilling. The siting of the well is what I would call a do or die.

“That is the reason why it is taking so much time. We are talking of two test sites, one which is four kilometres deep and the other two kilometres. The siting of those positions is extremely important, but the actual drilling doesn’t take time; I believe one month is enough to drill the well.”

Production sharing
Government and Invictus are negotiating a production sharing agreement (PSA) that will provide long-term tenure to the investor. Minister Chitando said the PSA will be concluded in the next few weeks.

“There is now need to have a long-term tenure and I am sure at some stage you will remember some time back an announcement was made that there is a Government team that was set up — led by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (Mr George Guvamatanga) — to negotiate production sharing agreements with Geo Associates and Invictus.

“Again you find that minerals like gold and platinum, work on royalties, but oil and hydrocarbons work on production sharing, which means that Government gets a certain percent of the production.

“So we have been seized over the last few months negotiating a production sharing agreement with the investors and I am pleased to say the draft, is almost in place. It will go through the normal Government protocol. “We expect that PSA will be concluded in the next few weeks.”

ZIFA confident CAF will lift stadium ban

ZIFA confident CAF will lift stadium ban. The association would have to convince CAF that they now have a stadium that is fit to host the high-profile 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Zimbabwe and Algeria on November 9.

ZIFA are confident the Confederation of African Football will this time sanction the use of local stadiums for international matches and have lauded the Government for refurbishing Barbourfields and the National Sports Stadium during the Covid-19-induced lockdown.

CAF’s executive committee on Thursday ratified the decision of their emergency committee to resume the Nations Cup qualifiers in November. During their virtual meeting, CAF executive set new dates for the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament which was postponed due to Covid-19.

The CHAN tournament, originally pencilled in for April 4-25 in Cameroon, will now take place from January 16 to February 7, 2021 in the same country and the Warriors will play the hosts in the opening game of the competition in Yaoundé. But more worryingly for ZIFA at the moment is the venue to stage the Warriors-Desert Foxes showdown.

There was however, a huge degree of optimism from ZIFA yesterday after their First Instance Board toured Barbourfields to assess progress. The FIB will this week tour the National Sports amid strong indications that it is the stadium the association will register with CAF as their preferred venue for the November clash between the Warriors and the Algerians. ZIFA communications and competitions manager Xolisani Gwesela told The Sunday Mail Sport after a tour of Barbourfields that they were optimistic of getting the CAF nod this time around.

Gwesela said ZIFA were grateful for the work that has been undertaken by the Government. “We have been requested by CAF to re-inspect Barbourfields and National Sports Stadium ahead of upcoming AFCON qualifier match against Algeria.“ CAF basically want to assess what progress has been done since the last inspection before they make a decision.

“But it is our considered opinion that Government and the Sport and Recreation Commission have done very well to ensure that the two facilities are spruced up and notably the National Sports Stadium.

“It is our hope that outstanding items like bucket seats and electronic access will be completed in due course,’’ Gwesela said. The ZIFA spokesman said Government had demonstrated commitment to speed up work at the National Stadium by flighting advertisements for the installation of bucket seats.

“The Government has already flighted a tender to that effect. We thank the Government and SRC for such hard work and for ensuring that our facilities are brought to the required FIFA and CAF standards,’’ Gwesela said.

The ZIFA inspection comes as CAF president Ahmad Ahmad on Thursday indicated that the continental body would not hesitate to make the Warriors play on foreign soil if none of the local venues meet their required standards.

Ahmad however, told our sister publication The Chronicle that a switch to a foreign country would only be a last resort. The CAF boss also urged Zimbabwean authorities to work speedily on the country’s stadiums and insisted that they would not compromise on standards to accommodate countries that turn a blind eye to their facilities, Zimbabwe included.

He said the onus lay with the authorities to work on their facilities ahead of pending international matches. Ahmad said he was aware that some stadiums in Zimbabwe were either owned by the State or local authorities and it was therefore prudent that they, in consultation with football authorities, expedited the issue of ensuring the facilities were up to expected international standards.

“Look we take no pleasure in having a national team play its home games away from home. It is my hope that authorities there (Zimbabwe) quickly work on what is required and we will then send a specialist team to do the inspections and if, and this is what I am hoping for too, they find the facilities to be up to standard, we will not hesitate to have a stadium certified and your teams enjoy home ground advantage.

“However, in the same vein, if they are still below what we expect, be rest assured that as CAF we shall be left with no option, but to take that painful, but necessary route of taking away your home advantage. But let me be clear that this is not what we want,” said Ahmad. Before Covid-19 conspired to halt international sport in March, ZIFA faced the ignominy of staging the Warriors against Algeria encounter in South Africa following the CAF ban on Zimbabwe’s grounds.

Former ZIFA board member Piraishe Mabhena chairs the FIB which had been steadfast even before the CAF ban that the Government and the municipalities needed to improve the quality of stadiums across the country.

This came after many of the venues around the cities and towns such as Rufaro, Gwanzura, Ascot and Nyamhunga failed to even meet the basic standards to be certified fit to host Premier Soccer League matches. Mabhena’s committee now has until September 20 to submit it’s own inspection report to CAF.

DJ Zinhle going strong with new bae Murdah Bongz

DJ Zinhle and rumored partner, MurdahBongz from the popular afro-house duo Black Motion, are clearly going strong with the “mystery man” now getting image credits on her post.

The love story between DJ Zinhle has been a point of fascination for many since the suggestions of their relationship started blooming since popular gossip commentator; Owmie Hlongwane broke the story on her channel back in July of this year. DJ Zinhle had posted a suggestive Instagram that let the cat out of the bag.

However, their alleged relationship was met with a hurdle when suggestions that his ex-girlfriend, Thuli Phongolo was in her feelings about the “Umlilo” hitmaker taking her man. Neither one involved in the supposed entanglement has confirmed the rumors, but what is clear is that DJ Zinhle and MurdahBongz are happy in love.

Recently, Pearl Thusi and Moozlie were on a friendship date as they attended Boity’s Pink Sapphire celebrity launch together. The duo are usually a threesome with the last amigo in the group being DJ Zinhle. But the DJ was nowhere to be seen and if you follow her stories the reason started being very apparent.

It seems the two are currently spending the weekend together. First, it was DJ Zinhle taking to her stories and sharing images of herself in bed with the inscription MB. Then she followed the story with showcasing how she spent the day supporting a long-time friend during the launch of their latest venture, but throughout her stories she kept on showing details of a man dressed in black pant, a white t-shirt, and a denim jacket.

With rumors of their love story, all social media users needed to do was visit MurdahBongz’ Instagram page and guess what the man was wearing on the same day. Moreover, his post features the producer and DJ perched on a seat that looks like one of Jiyane Atelier chairs. So unless MurdahBongz is merely supporting local brands, the question is where was his picture taken?

But DJ Zinhle, who has previously made it clearly that she falls in love head first made it easier to put the pieces together. The DJ took to Instagram and shared a portrait image of herself and tagged the photographer with a heart. Friend, Ms Comso went on to inquire who the photographer was, and MB was the answer. Clearly, things are serious when “mystery man” moves on to being an Instagram husband, right?

Lerato Kganyago breathes fire after Fan tells her to get pregnant

Lerato Kganyago has been one of the most vocal female celebrities who spoke openly about her troubles with fertility and helping other women a long the way. The star suffered two miscarriages when she was five months in and also suffered the loss of her friend and lover.

The internet is never a good space for the sensitive and weak at heart, however, for Lerato Kganyago, she deals with the trolls head-on. Recently the radio personality shared pictures of her baecation with rumoured fiance, Thami Ndlala, however, she never confirmed nor denied the speculation.

Showing off her getaway with her significant other, LKG saw a lot of negative comments from trolls and slammed one who meddled in her business.

The troll instructed her to come back from her baecation pregnant. A comment which was deemed nasty by many of her followers, considering the fact that the it is public knowledge that Lerato suffers with fertility issues.

Clapping back at the troll, Lerato asked the tweep why her womb is any of his concern.

The feisty, yet now-deleted clapback was applauded by many however she got rid of it after her followers dragged her for paying attention to the negative people and ignoring the ones who wish her well.

Opening up about the ordeal, which happened five months into her pregnancy, she said: “I was admitted, and after the doctor did a scan she told me I had miscarried. I sat on the hospital bed numb. I called my mom and my ex, who both cried. I’m still healing. I’m not ready to have another child,” she said adding that she felt guilty and blamed herself for everything.

Lerato said she felt like less of a woman after the loss of her two children. “I have only spoken about the (most recent) one because it was the one that affected me the most. That was when I really wanted to have a child,” Lerato said in a 2017 interview on Real Talk. She underwent therapy to help her cope with the loss.

Despite her heartache, Lerato has not given up on one day becoming a mom. She says she has not ruled out adoption. Lerato used her social media platforms to educate people about adoption. She told her Twitter followers in 2017 that adoption is “not a white thing”.

Govt increases civil servants’ bonus and salaries

Govt increases civil servants’ bonus and salaries. In June, the Government announced a flat non-taxable Covid-19 allowance of US$75 for civil servants and increased their salaries by 50 per cent while pensioners who retired from the civil service also got a flat non-taxable Covid-19 allowance of US$30 per month.

Civil servants are set for a happy end of the year as the Government has assured them that they will receive their bonus while modalities are also being worked out to continue with foreign currency allowances until the end of the year.

The allowances were initially for three months, but during a National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) meeting which brings Government and civil servants’ representatives under one roof held last week, the Government announced that the facility has been extended to the end of the year. And to put the cherry on the cake, the Government will also pay its workers a 13th cheque.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube told Sunday News on the sidelines of a donation of food hampers to the elderly in Bulawayo’s Luveve suburb yesterday that the Government was in the process of increasing salaries, paying bonus and will continue with the non-taxable Covid-19 US$ allowance for its workers. Health workers are also set to get an additional risk allowance.

“We are continuing talks with civil servants noting that they are hardworking and critical to our economy, especially those in the health sector, who make up our frontline workers in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, which has largely affected our nation. What we are doing now is that we are engaging the civil servants to see how we can continue with the non-taxable foreign currency allowance for the entire civil service and the risk allowances for our health workers,” said Prof Ncube.

Regarding the civil servants’ bonuses, the minister assured the workers that despite the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic the workers will receive their 13th cheque this year.

“On bonuses, the civil servants should not worry much, for now we will address their salaries and allowances. Bonus as we all know it is a norm that we pay it every year, hence this year, it won’t be different, we are working on paying them their 13th cheque,” he said.

Commenting on the promises, Apex Council president, Mrs Cecilia Alexandra confirmed that they had begun talks with their employer on both the salary increase and payment of the 13th cheque. She said during last week’s meeting Government promised to come up with a new pay structure for the civil servants.

“The negotiations are yet to be concluded because the Government initially came to us with a figure which we felt was far less than what we expected. Regarding bonuses I am sure this will also be tabled in our next meeting but since we are fast approaching November, I must emphasise that as civil servants we expect our bonuses to be paid,” said Mrs Alexandra.

When the Government announced the forex allowances, it was part of President Mnangagwa’s measures to cushion government workers from the adverse impact of Covid-19. Meanwhile, Prof Ncube took a swipe at unscrupulous individuals who buy subsidised mealie-meal, repackage it and then sell it at astronomical prices.

He said the Government will soon be descending on these people with the aim of bringing them to book as they were taking advantage of the desperation by people to line their pockets. The subsidised mealie-meal has since vanished from the shops in and around Bulawayo.

“As Government, we have been trying very hard in terms of providing our citizens with affordable mealie-meal, our official price is $70, which has not been increased, we are, however, aware that there are some unscrupulous individuals who are selling the same product for even five times more, while others are even charging in foreign currency.

“However, I must warn these individuals that as Government we are determined to toe the line and ensure that such acts are brought to book. We know these tricksters who want to take advantage of this generous gesture by the Government for their personal gains,” said Prof Ncube.

He further called on the elderly to register with the Social Welfare Department, revealing that the Government had set aside $2,4 billion for their benefit, which also included $300 monthly cash transfers.

“Our social welfare programme is quite robust and we would like more citizens to come forward and register. We also have our Basic Education Assistance Module which is assisting the education sector and also a programme for the elderly where they will receive support as well house work,” said Prof Ncube.

He donated various food items at Entembeni Old People’s Home as well as food parcels to 75 households in Luveve.

Antony says he’s never spoken to Kylie or her team or sent her any of his work, so he was stunned when he found out she wore his clothing … stunned and elated.

He tells us Kylie randomly wearing his hoodie is “similar to what I think would happen if I won the lottery,” adding it seems surreal.

Beyond the excitement … a major boost to his bottom line. Antony says his DMs immediately began blowing up over the hoodie, so he’s re-releasing it. And, get this — he says in the first 24 hours after Kylie posted the video, his brand’s sales have surpassed any day since the company launched in 2017. Sales increased by 10 fold over a typical day.

Antony’s singing Kylie’s praises, saying … “Although it may seem like a small thing for her to just put on a hoodie, her post could be the difference between a smaller artist like myself having to go back to waiting tables and being able to continue to grow and live off of my art.”

Now that’s some serious influencing.

Over 100 Buffalos terrorising Bulilima villagers. Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) rangers have reportedly killed some of them and there are no reports of death or injuries caused by the roaming buffaloes according to Bulilima Rural District Council CEO Brown Ncube:

A herd of over 100 buffalos are reportedly roaming in areas around Makhulela, Huwana and Khame in Bulilima District where they are wreaking havoc and instilling fear in villagers in the district, The Standard reports.

They are causing a lot of fear and are a threat to humans as you know they are dangerous animals. But at the moment we have not yet heard of reports of people injured or killed by them. report about the Buffaloes that was released by Habakkuk Trust revealed that ZimParks rangers in the company of a veterinary doctor are working towards averting the crisis:

The buffaloes, which were visibly dehydrated, are in a desperate search for water as natural reservoirs in most areas have since dried. The buffaloes gunned down were in close proximity to households, one of them was shot as it was roaming around a granary.

Tests for anthrax and other zoonotic diseases that can be transmitted to domestic animals will be conducted on the samples. A villager that spoke to the publication about the buffaloes:

We really have problems here, recently we had elephants causing problems and now a herd of buffaloes invades our area. The same area in Bulilima was also invaded by some elephants that destroyed some infrastructure sometime early this year.

Defiant Chin’ono: We should not be afraid of telling the truth, even if they arrest us. Said Chin’ono: We should not be afraid of telling the truth because we will be thrown into prison. The only unique thing I did was to say there is more into the story than I have read and started digging.

While speaking at an event organised by the Media Alliance of Zimbabwe and the Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) in Harare on Friday, renowned journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono said people should not fear telling the truth because they will be thrown in jail, The Standard reports.

There was a false narrative while I was in prison that I was getting information from the government. I never got information from anyone. Once we get journalists whose only job is to investigate and write what is happening out there, we will begin to see a shift.

While speaking at the same event, Prince Dubeko Sibanda, who chairs the parliamentary committee on information, publicity and broadcasting services said the government was interfering with the operations of the media:

Sticking out like a sore thumb is lack of interest by the executive to comply with the constitution. We have witnessed covert interference in the operations of the media from Munhumutapa (Information ministry headquarters.)

ZIMSEC Exams: Unfair test for rural candidates

ZIMSEC Exams: Unfair test for rural candidates. Many years after independence, Zimbabwe has pushed through to a high literacy rate throughout Africa. At its independence, Zimbabwe initiated education for all policy that was earmarked at closing the educational gap between the whites and the native Zimbabweans.

Daniel Mugwanda and Felix Tagutanazvo while writing for The Standard said the government’s decision to hurriedly let ZIMSEC November exams proceed will disadvantage rural students who have no access to the internet, radio lessons as compared to their counterparts in urban areas. The opinionists opined:

This programme of educating many Zimbabweans saw the government focusing on infrastructure development that would enable Zimbabweans to access education.

This prompted government budget focus on the less privileged communities, the high-density areas and the rural areas. Albeit all, the education system was so knit in a way that in any part of the nation there was curricula standardisation, which meant everyone enrolled in Zimbabwean schools would be tested by standard test through ZIMSEC

Standardised examinations have worked so well in Zimbabwe in closing literacy gaps among constituencies, ceteris paribus. This is how the nation became a wholesale to the global labour market as most of the products from Zimbabwe schools would be well adaptive and highly valuable in the labour market. Over the years, education became a pillar to the development across communities like rural albeit the gap. The success was until the socio-economic environment deteriorated because of high inflation rate, investor-repelling policies and ballooned unemployment rates.

All these have impacted education directly or otherwise. Making the rural folk more vulnerable, as evidenced by the rural-to-urban migration experienced beyond the year 2000. With a myriad of crises have come and gone, some political, some natural and the development crises imminent in the nation, then came Covid-19, the reader would know from our previous presentations how the pandemic has put a halting hand on education and on rural education in particular. The enforced lockdown restrictions have disrupted the teaching and learning process, then came the “new normal”.

How the new normal has been a nightmare to the rural areas can’t be ignored, the switch to online classes, its applicability can only be imagined yet not feasible in all truth. This reality has inspired a debate on whether the government, through the Primary and Secondary Education ministry should reopen the doors to class. The worry from the writers which any legacy leader shares would be on the rationale behind the November examination sitting.

The Primary and Secondary Education ministry announced that both Cambridge and Zimsec candidates will open by the end of September and are expected to sit for their final examinations by December 2020. This means that learners have, at most, two months to revise, recall, learn and unlearn and master exam techniques. This, of course, seems like ample time in “normal” situations, but we are talking of a situation where the last time some learners had anything to do with school work was in March 2020 before the government announced a full lockdown. This stems out of the realisation that candidates learn at different rates.

Learners have different aptitudes; different levels of motivation and definitely have different learning styles. We have urban learners exposed to every other learning means (amid Covid-19) and a rural candidate with no access to the internet, radio lessons etc and probably overwhelmed by household chores cannot be expected to have the same amount of revision time and sit for the same exam.

During the current Covid-19 restrictions, evidence on the ground shows how well coordinated classes have taken place in most urban constituencies either through Zoom, Google Classes or more generally through the WhatsApp platform. The understanding can’t be applied for rural learners because at least more generally 80% of the rural learners have just been home. It is with this realisation that the decision to okay the writing of November 2020 examinations is gravely unfair on all rural learners bearing in mind the standard examinations.

This begs an answer on the fairness of the examinations system amidst the Covid-19 crisis. This question is of legacy perspective — will this not erode the gains of education that have been there for years and will it not just exacerbate the knowledge gap which isn’t a reality between urban and rural schools? Surely the examinations could have been postponed to a more feasible date that would factor in all possible gaps, perhaps to early 2021, after all the candidates would have learnt enough for examination.

The most obvious reason given for proceeding with the final exams is that we have to adapt and learn to live with the virus and, of course, learning has been going on (through radio lessons etc). This rationale, however, borders on ignoring key aspects; for instance, people are unique and what works in one place may not work in another place, at least not in the same way.

As was established in the previous articles, myriad factors make the 2020 exams not so desirable to many candidates and hence the decision to have these exams written this year is not a popular one. With the traditional learning methods (physical learner-teacher interaction) replaced by the “new normal” (online learning) for the whole of the second term and part of the third term, the reality remains that teachers and learners experience the curriculum differently.

Overall this article is not to challenge a standardised curriculum or to advocate for preferential treatment of the rural learner. It is, however, out of realisation there exists a gap and Covid-19 has worsened the gap. Policymakers should be adaptable in their crisis response. We all hope for a Zimbabwe whose growth and development is generic through communities and this can highly be achieved by consistent and adaptive education policies that assure all citizens of equitable access to education.

Wisdom from the chief coordinator of the National Response to Covid-19 is to be watchful to see what works and what does not work, especially learning from those that have dealt with similar circumstances. However, the policymakers need to be wary of the impact of this decision on exams on the future of rural education, statistics will speak loud.

Walter Mzembi: ED took one of my vehicles for himself

Walter Mzembi: ED took one of my vehicles for himself. Speaking to the publication Mzembi reportedly said: I have suffered immensely from his ill-treatment ranging from repossession of my farms, an attempt at my houses, repossession of my conditions of service vehicles.

Speaking from his South African base, soon to be extradited former cabinet minister Walter Mzembi said President Mnangagwa was ill-treating him to the point of seizing his property and allocating them to himself and his family members, New Zimbabwe reports.

One of which I am told he personally allocated to himself and subsequently to a family member, Mzembi said he was sceptical he will survive the continuous attack from President Mnangagwa’s administration because he is a cancer survivor:

I am not sure if anyone can survive health-wise from this assault which includes frequent bashing by state media just to mess my reputation. I am a survivor of cancer and he still wants to incarcerate me after declaring me an enemy of the state on two different occasions. So weaponising extradition treaties against opponents is just a step further from the harassment he has been meting out on me and others but our dispute is only political.

Mzembi said he tried to reach out to President Mnangagwa but to no avail: My advice to Mnangagwa is he must unite Zimbabweans and stop this pursuit of citizens with differing opinions and political views to his. I reached out to him on the 27th November 2017, he snubbed me. I wrote to him in January 2018 and he replied with arrests.

I reached out again to him in September 2018, he dispatched a Ferret team to abduct on the 19th of September. He has a consistent pattern of replying rapprochement with intense hostility”

Speaking about the possible extradition being organised by the state Mzembi said: When he (Mnangagwa) ran away to South Africa in 2017, who extradited him? He had many criminal dockets that have since been shelved under his watch. He comes out to me as an angry president and that anger blinds him to perform state duties, principal among them is uniting Zimbabweans.

So, I summed up my situation and concluded I was best away from home on a political sabbatical.

Tendai Biti: Zanu PF is now a threat to the people of Zimbabwe

Tendai Biti: Zanu PF is now a threat to the people of Zimbabwe. MDC Vice President Tendai Biti after being warned that they are “little children playing with fire” by Patrick Chinamasa in a press conference said the government was now attacking everyone which is a clear sign they are a threat to everyone.

The MDC Alliance Vice President Tendai Biti has scoffed at the ruling party’s threats to him and his youthful president Nelson Chamisa and said Zanu PF has become a threat to the Zimbabwean people, New Zimbabwe reports.

As the liberation movement decomposes under (President) Emmerson (Mnangagwa), its latest rants on the church, on the ANC, citizens and MDC Alliance leaders smacks of pathological desperation and vacuous idiocy. They have become a national threat to the people. MDC Alliance Secretary General Charlton Hwende also dismissed the government’s threats and said:CHINAMASA

This is a sign of a man speaking on behalf of a regime that is afraid. The ruling party has over the last few months attacked anyone and everyone who opposes, rebukes and point out errors in President Mnangagwa’s second republic.

Everton beat Tottenham at their home for the first time in 10 years

Everton beat Tottenham at their home for the first time in 10 years. Calvert-Lewin gave Hugo Lloris no chance after connecting with Lucas Digne’s in-swinging free-kick to earn the Toffees a first win over Spurs since 2012. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s brilliant header ensured new-look Everton made a flying start to the Premier League season with a victory at Tottenham.

In a high-octane encounter, Jordan Pickford produced two excellent saves to keep out Dele Alli and Matt Doherty, who was making his debut after signing from Wolves. But with new signing James Rodriguez in excellent form, Everton fully deserved their win after a hard-working performance.

Everton should have taken the lead in the early stages but Richarlison lost his footing after rounding Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris. New-look Everton turn on the style
After Everton’s disappointing 12th place last season, their lowest position since 2003-04, Carlo Ancelotti has embarked on an ambitious rebuilding job, specifically targeting the midfield.

As well as Rodriguez, Brazil’s Allan and Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure have also been drafted in to provide energy and creativity in the engine room – and all three gave Ancelotti huge encouragement for the season ahead.

Rodriguez, in particular, stood out, with his quality passing setting up good chances. The Toffees could – and should – have won by a more handsome margin against a static Tottenham side short of ideas. Rodriguez twice picked out Richarlison after half-time but the Brazilian, who wasted a great chance in the first half, was unable to punish Spurs.

Allan, who played under Ancelotti at Napoli, was calm and composed as Everton looked rejuvenated after a poor 2019-20. Pickford’s saves to keep out Alli and Doherty were crucial, with Ancelotti delighted with a clean-sheet win against a side that finished 10 points and six places above them last season.

Flat start by Spurs
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho was unhappy with Everton’s goal, claiming the free-kick which led to Calvert-Lewin’s winner was taken from the wrong place.

But over the 90 minutes, Spurs were distinctly second best and their lack of threat was summed up by the fact Harry Kane only touched the ball twice in Everton’s penalty area.  Son Heung-min was Spurs’ most threatening player, particularly in the first half when he set up chances for Kane and Alli.

Kane looked a shadow of the player who finished last season with five goals in three games while Alli, despite forcing a fine save from Pickford, was replaced at half-time.

Mourinho said before the game that he wanted a new striker before the transfer window closes next month and this performance will reinforce his need to strengthen the squad.  New signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg also started but was unable to have the same impact as Everton’s new additions.

What’s next?
Both teams are in cup action in midweek. While Tottenham travel to Bulgaria in midweek to face Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the second qualifying round of the Europa League on Thursday (17:00 BST), Everton host League Two Salford City on Wednesday in the second round of the Carabao Cup (20:15).

Govt to put trackers on all it’s vehicles

Govt to put trackers on all it’s vehicles. This was revealed by the ICT Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere who said they will implement TelOnes’s TelTrack to improve efficiency.

In a bid to monitor all movements and reduce public resources abuse, the ministry of Information Communication Technologies, Postal and Courier Services, will reportedly put trackers on all government vehicles. Sunday News reports.

As part of Government efforts to improve efficiency, and under the guidance of the Ministry, TelOne has partnered with CMED (Central Mechanical Engineering Department) in providing this very service for the management of the Government’s vehicles.

The tracking units for this system are being installed daily on our national fleet to boost efficiencies and come up with valuable digital data that is being used to effectively manage the Government’s vehiclesMuswere said the government has approved the use of TelTrack and said it came at an opportune time:

This system comes at an opportune time where dynamics in the market continue to evolve and has since proven its capability in high tech fleet management; buoyed on the back of TelOne’s robust telecommunications infrastructure, particularly the National Operations Centre.

The Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, has been tasked to ensure Zimbabwe’s digital economy awakens and the nation is empowered to make data-driven decisions. We have been given a specific mandate to digitise the Government and the nation as a whole.

This has seen us heightening this pursuit through accelerating and ensuring the conclusion of many projects that are being implemented by the different entities under our purview. This comes amid the second administration’s need to compact corruption in Zimbabwe which is hogging the international limelight especially the Draxgate that saw the government paying for some medical sundries at inflated prices.

ED brags: Takatora Tsvimbo Ndokurova Ecocash. Likening their tough approach to using a staff to reprimand a child, the president accused Ecocash of economic sabotage and said.

While addressing a Zanu PF meeting in Gweru, President Mnangagwa said they had to to be tough in dealing with the skyrocketing parallel market exchange rates that’s why they had to ban some EcoCash transactions and impose daily transaction limits, The Sunday Mail reports.

We realised that Ecocash was behind all this so we studied this thing and got to their server and found everything, every corruption and takatora tsvimbo ndokurova, it was painful to others but we said we only allow limited mobile money and it must reflect in the account.

We were all confused as to what was happening until we set up a committee and we discovered there was up to $8,4 billion circulating outside the banking system, which money in financial terms, is phantom money, which is some sort of ghost money whose source no one knows,

We also discovered that there were people on the streets, a lodger who does not own a house but in his or her mobile phone there is $86 million, which he or she is trading, not employed, no one complaining of losing money, it was confusing.

He also admitted the government is marred with corrupt activities but only pointed out that it was rampant in local authorities which are run by the opposition.
