Charles Manyuchi set to return in the ring. Charles Manyuchi coach Ali ‘Otto’ Phiri says his boxer will start camp in May ahead of the WBF/WABA supreme middleweight unification title defence in June. The boxer hasn’t been in the ring since beating Argentine Pablo Acosta and could only return this June against Ugandan boxer, Mahomed Sebyala, for the right to retain his WBF crown.

The 31-year-old, was supposed to defend his belt in Harare in April last year but due to the outbreak of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic, the match had to be shelved to a later date. The match is scheduled for the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on June 28.

“The boxer is getting in camp next month. We have been training yes just to keep in shape but we will intensify our preparations soon,” Phiri said. The fight against the Ugandan would be Manyuchi’s first bout after a year on the side-lines.

He will be returning to action for the first time since beating the Argentine boxer via a third-round technical knockout at HICC in September 2019 to land the World Boxing Federation (WBF) world middleweight title.

“We are happy about the new date. It has been long overdue. As you are aware the fight was supposed to have been held in April last year but due to Covid-19, we had to wait. “We hope everything will be fine so that we can be able to fulfil this chapter and move on to the next,” Ali told.

“The Covid-19 break did not break us, rather it made us stronger. We are not going to disappoint.” Manyuchi sits on 24 wins, four defeats with only a single knockout and one draw from 29 bouts whilst his opponent Sebyala has 19 wins, 13 defeats and one draw from a total of 33 bouts.

The Zimbabwean boxer is targeting to reclaim the World Boxing Council (WBC) silver welterweight belt, which he lost two years ago.

Former Warriors coach Rahman Gumbo gets the Botswana team job. The Botswana team announced his appointment on their social media platforms. Gumbo is replacing David Bright, who died in January.

Former Warriors coach Rahman Gumbo was on Friday appointed head coach of Sua Flamingos in Botswana. “Sua Flamingos FC wishes to announce the appointment of Rahman Gumbo to the position of head coach on a two-year contract. “On behalf of all stakeholders, we welcome and wish him a pleasant stay,” read the statement. The team was promoted last season.

Zim SA miners set to get R500 000 compensation. This development comes after the High Court in Johannesburg approved the settlement in the Silicosis and Tuberculosis class action reached on 26 July 2019 and came into effect on 10 December 2019 after all conditions had been fulfilled.

Mineworkers who were exposed to harmful substances and ended up contracting Silicosis or Tuberculosis at South African gold mines are set to receive compensation ranging from R10 000 to R500 000. Dependants of mineworkers who have since passed away, a wife, children or life partner, will receive the payments.

In a statement yesterday, the Tshiamo Trust which was established to carry out the terms of the settlement said all eligible miners should come forward with their details. Eligible claimants who were gold mineworkers between March 12, 1965 and December 10, 2019 will be compensated.

“The Tshiamiso Trust has been established to carry out the terms of the settlement and to pay monetary compensation to eligible claimants. An eligible claimant will be entitled to receive a once-off payment of between R10 000 and R250 000, depending on the nature and seriousness of the disease and harm suffered by such claimant,” read the statement.

“In some severe cases, an eligible claimant may be able to receive a larger amount of up to R500 000.” An eligible claimant according to Tshimiso Trust is a person who is a member of companies who meets the requirements of the trust to receive monetary compensation.

“All class members can and are invited to submit a claim to the Tshiamiso Trust for monetary compensation, except for class members who opted out of the settlement. Details of how to submit a claim are provided on the trust’s website.

The full terms of the Settlement Agreement as well as the Court’s decision approving the Settlement Agreement is available on the same website,” read the same statement.

It said the eligible are persons who undertook work that exposed them to silica dust and contracted Silicosis or Tuberculosis. “Dependants for example the wife, child or life partner of such a gold mine worker who passed away may also apply for compensation.

Claimants who live in South Africa can call the Trust’s toll-free call centre number to make an appointment at their closest lodgement office in South Africa. Those who live outside of South Africa can call the Trust’s call back number to make an appointment at a lodgement office in their country,” it said.

Government floats Shangani pipeline construction tender. Government has floated a tender for the construction of the 260km Gwayi-Shangani Dam-Bulawayo pipeline, which marks the implementation of the Second Phase of the National Matabeleland Zambezi Water Project (NMZWP).

The Gwayi-Shangani Dam construction and completion have been made a top priority and this year Government allocated $4,5 billion towards the project, which is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

The dam will have a holding capacity of 650 million cubic metres of water, which is slightly bigger than the total capacity of Bulawayo’s six supply dams.

The massive water project, which is set to address Bulawayo’s perennial water crisis, is being implemented in three phases with the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) engineering the project.

Construction works done at the dam site so far are at 39 percent. The construction of the pipeline from the dam to Bulawayo and pump stations along the pipeline will be followed by the construction of the bulk water abstraction infrastructure on the Zambezi River and linkage to the Gwayi-Shangani Dam.

Government is inviting bids for the construction of the pipeline route from the dam to Bulawayo.

Local contractors that will be engaged will be divided into sections to speed up the works. The dam is expected to start holding water by the end of the year. In a statement, the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement yesterday said it was opening up the tender for the construction of the Gwayi-Shangani Dam-Bulawayo pipeline.

The bidding is only open to local companies.

“The Government of Zimbabwe is implementing the National Matabeleland Zambezi Water Project which has three phases. Phase One is the ongoing construction of the Gwayi-Shangani Dam and Phase Two is the construction of a 260km pipeline and pumping stations linking the Gwayi-Shangani Dam to Bulawayo,” read the statement.

“The Third Phase is the construction of the bulk water abstraction infrastructure on the Zambezi River and a linkage to the Gwayi-Shangani Dam. The Government of Zimbabwe allocated resources to the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement to commence the implementation of Phase Two during the 2021 financial year.”

According to the statement, Zinwa as the engineer for the project, is inviting suitable companies to construct the pipeline.

“Following the groundbreaking ceremony officiated by His Excellency President ED Mnangagwa on 25 February 2021 to mark the commencement of Phase Two of the project, Zinwa, the engineer of the project, is inviting tenders from established and experienced contractors who registered with the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) in line with the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets (PPDPA) Act and Disposal of Public Assets (General) Regulations (Statutory Instrument No. 5 of 2018), for the construction of the Gwayi-Shangani Dam-Bulawayo pipeline,” read the statement.

The ministry said it will be compulsory for prospective bidders to visit the site where the pipeline will be constructed between May 13 and June 16, 2021.

Prospective bidders will be expected to meet on the stated dates at Nkulumane Complex along Masiyephambili Drive in Bulawayo where they will be led to Cowdray Park where the pipeline ends and proceed to Nyamandlovu up to Gwayi Shangani Dam site.

The Ministry said tender bids will be closed on June 16, 2021 at 10AM. Gwayi-Shangani Dam is located in Hwange District and upon completion is set to also benefit Binga and Lupane districts, Bulawayo as well as communities along the pipeline.

Plans are underway to establish a green belt between Bulawayo and the dam as communities staying along the pipeline will have access to water for irrigation. The completion of the dam and the pipeline is viewed as the permanent solution to Bulawayo’s water crisis.

The city’s residents have for years been subjected to water rationing due to inadequate water in the city’s supply dams which has been blamed on the effects of climate change.

Bulawayo gets its water from Insiza, Mtshabezi, Inyankuni, Umzingwane, lower and upper Ncema in the Umzingwane catchment which due to successive drought years have not had significant inflows but the situation has dramatically changed this year following good rains.

I’ve seen things that you’ve never seen with your eyes.

Prophet Jacob Dube popularly known as Jay Israel has admitted that he risked his reputation, and millions of people who trusted, and looked up to him as a truthful and resilient leader for useless things.

“From today don’t defend me. If you hear anything about me. Don’t defend me, only God who called me for this assignment, only God who called me for this mission, shall be my defence, only God who called me for this assignment, shall vindicate me,” said Jay Israel.

When I started the BACK TO CHRIST MOVEMENT I was determined, focused and ready to suffer the consequences of standing for the truth without fear or favor , but along the way I compromised my integrity and dignity for vanity.

I risked my reputation and millions of people who trusted and looked up to me as a truthful and resilient leader for useless things .

These Last few months humbled me . I have been betrayed , persecuted, used , rejected and abandoned but now I have made a conscious decision to come back and show the world that we can all serve christ with a pure heart and soul but unfortunately the only way I can do that is by coming clean about my past and shortfalls because if we hide what we have done in private it leaves us vulnerable to anyone who discovers our secrets and we become so indebted to them for life and strive to keep them but it is a slippery slope to even doing worse things.

I have made many mistakes over the past months , some of which I learnt a lot from and some ended me in prison but I want everyone who once instilled their trust in me to know the kind of man I was and the kind of man I am NOW . As young as I am , I have tried to do everything within my power with the help of the Holy Spirit to do the right thing and live right but it’s not as easy as it seems to be .

I would like to put it on record that there are many people I have wronged and let down through my actions , speech and behaviour but I believe that through the grace and love of Christ all shall be well in due time and I shall be at peace with everyone .

As I believe I do not have much time left for me to be alive , I will not allow myself to go to rest with a heart full of pain , grief , hatred anger amongst other things .

This is not a suicide note but a message that will help my generation to understand the times .

Drama, as recalled MP’s Prado, crashes into a wall. The incident occurred on Sunday morning at the corner of Mutufu and Mukumba road in Mufakose and a son to Matsunga’s sister is believed to have been behind the wheel.

Recalled MDC Alliance Mufakose Member of Parliament, Susan Matsunga’s vehicle, a Land Cruiser Prado reportedly rammed into a precast wall before the driver sped off from the scene.

According to H-Metro, the vehicle is now being used for Mushikashika (pirate taxi). A man from the affected houses who spoke to the publication on condition of anonymity said:

I heard a loud disturbing sound around 4 am on Sunday morning. I quickly peeped through the window and saw the car trying to leave the scene without even assessing the damage. The car left before I alerted everyone else in our house.

When we got outside a few women on their way to Mbare Musika alerted us that they had recognised the vehicle since it had become popular for picking and dropping commuters.

We reported the incident to the police leading to the tracking of both the driver and the vehicle. Matsunga is believed to have undertaken to pay the damages and was quick to accept blame on behalf of her sister’s son.

The former legislator acquired the Land Cruiser Prado after entering into a Vehicle Loan Facility Agreement with the Parliament of Zimbabwe and the vehicle was to be used during her tenure.

Chad President dies after sustaining injuries while fighting rebels. In a statement read out on state television on Tuesday, army spokesman General Azem Bermandoa Agouna said Deby, 68, “has just breathed his last defending the sovereign nation on the battlefield” over the weekend.

Chad’s newly re-elected President Idriss Deby has died of injuries suffered while fighting rebels in the north of the country, the army has said. General Mahamat Kaka, the son of the deceased Chadian leader, is named interim head of state, the army spokesman said.

The news of the President’s death comes after provisional election results released on Monday showed that Deby had won a sixth term. He had been in power since 1990 following an armed rebellion.

Deby won 79.3 per cent of the vote in the 11 April presidential election, the results showed. He postponed his victory speech to supporters and instead went to visit Chadian soldiers on the frontlines.

The Chadian army has been battling the rebel group Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT), which is based across the northern frontier with Libya.

Chad’s military spokesman Agouna told the Reuters news agency that army troops killed more than 300 fighters and captured 150 on Saturday in Kanem province, around 300 kilometres from the capital Ndjamena. He further said five government soldiers were killed and 36 were injured.

CoH said it has realised that the informal sector spaces cannot operate in isolation hence the bold and pragmatic decision to locate new vending spaces at busy places that have other business activities.

In a statement, Council also condemned the activities of space barons who are in the habit of renting space to traders and pocketing the proceeds. It said: Council is aware of individuals abusing the system to set shop on undesignated spaces. The individuals are collecting money from desperate vendors and pocketing the ‘LOOT’ for personal use.

The law will soon catch up with such individuals. There is only one planning authority – which is Council. Individuals cannot usurp the power of the council and do arbitrary space allocations.

Members of the informal sector are urged to verify the authenticity and lawfulness of any space allocations in the city. Doing so protects the informal sector and their investments.

The years’ long cry for decent trading spaces cannot be achieved when the informal sector is pumping money into the pockets of individuals who have no obligation to re-invest in the development of decent trading spaces.

Saying NO to corruption should be a collective responsibility by all stakeholders. CoH added that is it one of the biggest beneficiaries of a properly functioning informal sector industry.

When the informal sector trades from designated sites – council collects revenue and reinvests that money in the development and maintenance of the infrastructure.

However, when the informal sector chooses to pay to third parties – that investment goes down the drain and council will not have resources to use to develop trading spaces, CoH saidCi.

Observing his Instagram stories, the South African rapper isn’t emptying his bank accounts for the fun of it, but he is making the music video of the song, Bookoo Bucks.

The rapper dropped his second album, Zulu Man With Some Power, and the single is off the project.

Reacting to the pole dancing video shared, followers claimed the video does justice to the lyrics of the song.

Econet sim card replacement fraudsters busted. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says two suspected fraudsters have been arrested after duping several people of huge sums of money.

In a post on their Twitter page, police confirmed the arrest of Leeman Mushayi (26) and Prince Kadzungwe (41) on fraud allegations after the duo fraudulently applied for a sim card replacement using someone’s number and then committing various offences using the sim card. Police said:

The ZRP reiterates the arrest of Leeman Mushayi (26) and Prince Kadzungwe (41) in connection with cases of fraud that occurred in Harare on 06/04/21.

The suspects approached an Econet shop and fraudulently applied for a sim-card replacement on the complainant’s number before restoring her WhatsApp and advertising on groups purporting that she was dealing in foreign currency.

Several victims were enchanted with the good rates and were defrauded various amounts. Meanwhile, Police appeals to complainants duped in a similar manner by suspects to come forward and report.

Last week police announced the arrest of a 60-year-old serial Harare fraudster, Dovan Tshikubadzo Ncube.

Police said Ncube duped several victims after purporting to be able to facilitate their issuance of travel documents and national identity documents. He demanded various amounts of cash in United States Dollars for his non-existent services.

Nurses: We won’t tolerate scrapping away of night allowances. Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) president Enock Dongo on Monday said nurses would not tolerate the removal of the allowances. Said Dongo: There is no way that we expect the government to remove what it had given to its workers. It’s tantamount to victimisation and provocation.

Nurses have described the government as “very cruel” and its decision to scrap health workers’ non-claimable night-duty allowances as a “provocation”.

We feel that the government wants to provoke workers so that they take the matter into their own hands. It’s the trend globally that workers who work overtime are paid.

It shows that the employer is very cruel, instead of thanking their workers by giving them remuneration; they want to thank them by removing the peanuts which we were being given since 2018.

That is bad and we are not going to tolerate that. Last year the government unilaterally scrapped its flexitime arrangement with nurses whereby they reported for duty on a certain number of days per week due to a shortage of personal protective equipment and poor remuneration.

Govt bars the exportation of Soya Beans. The recently gazetted Statutory Instrument 97 of 2021 primarily deals with how soya bean contract farmers are supposed to sell and transport their soya bean produce but also bans the export of soya beans.

The government has announced new regulations that seek to control the sale, transportation and export of soya beans.

According to SI 97 of 2021, only the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) will be allowed to export soya beans. Some of the key provisions of the new Statutory Instrument are as follows:

• No person or statutory body or company or entity under a contractual obligation to sell to a contractor or to the Grain Marketing Board shall sell or otherwise dispose of any soya beans except to such contractor or to the Grain Marketing Board.
• Any soya beans which is required to be sold to the Grain Marketing Board in terms of this section shall be delivered to the Grain Marketing Board at such time, place, and quantities as the Board may direct and under such terms and conditions as the Grain Marketing Board may provide.
• No person, statutory body, company or entity shall buy or otherwise acquire any soya beans from a contract farmer without a prior contractual obligation to do so.
• No person shall use or dispose of soya beans acquired through the Grain Marketing Board for use as seed otherwise than for such purpose except with the written permission of the Grain Marketing Board.
• A contract farmer is permitted to keep or transport not more than two bags of soya beans of a capacity not exceeding 50 kilograms per bag from one area of the country to the other without any authorisation from the Grain Marketing Board.
• With effect from the date of commencement of these regulations, no person other than the Grain Marketing Board shall export from Zimbabwe soya beans of any quantity or any description until such a date that shall be specified by the Minister by way of notice in the Gazette.
• In order to secure the contracted obligations, a contracted farmer or producer shall deliver contract produce in accordance with the agreed provisions of a scheme contract, or to the Grain Marketing
  Board.
• Where there is reasonable suspicion that soya beans are being sold in contravention of these regulations— an authorised person; or police officer… may seize the soya beans in question or seize any vehicle, container, or other property used in connection with the storage or transportation of the soya beans in question as an exhibit in the contemplated prosecution of the offence, in accordance with the provisions of these regulations.

Nelson Chamisa’s based documentary wins an award in Brazil: Video. A documentary about MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa based on the story of the country’s 2018 presidential election has won the Best Feature Documentary in Brazil’s Its True Film Festival.

The documentary titled ‘President’ was directed by Danish Camilla Nielsson. It provides a comprehensive look at how the 2018 elections were allegedly rigged by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government. Nielsson posted on Twitter:

12-hour power blackout in Greater Ruwa. ZETDS has announced that residential suburbs in the greater Ruwa area will lose power for 12 hours on Wednesday this week. According to the company, the blackout is so it can carry out critical maintenance work.

During this period, electricity will not be available in the following areas: Ruwa: George shops, Damafalls, Chipukutu, Riverside, Invelengus, Cranbrook, Fairview, Springvale, Ruwa farms, area around Goromoozi turn off, Zimbabwe Lodge, and Colcom Ruwa.

Customers are advised to treat all circuits as LIVE during this period as power may be restored without notice.
